Deci+lambda+advanced

By Jaden Ckast, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Thinking of trying this setup:

Patrol leader w/the emperor

Omicron w/vader

Zertik strom w/ lone wolf and adv targeting computer

Omicron and deci stalls in the back as long as possible while zertik try's to flank and use lone wolf. Once the lambda and deci are engaged, push the deci forward to strip shields so zertik and the shuttle can throw crits around. The decimator is a lot of points and will most likely be the first to go, but it will take at least 2 rounds of focused fire meanwhile that opens up zertik and omicron to do some crit damage. And still needs a lot of hp to get thru.

I think the list would be stronger if you swapped crews. That gets you a 360 Vader and lets the shuttle be useful even if you keep it on the other side of the table from where the action is.

I concur palpatine should be on the shuttle. The problem I see is that with only 2 ships actually putting out damage you will probably want to be focusing fire and therefore lonewolf won't get much use until the decimator is destroyed.

You could probably get decent use out of Lone Wolf if you have Strom come in from one flank and have the Decimator screen the shuttle up the other side.

Good catch, that does make more sense I hadn't thought about that.

Ya that's what I was thinking, the deci and shuttle would pair up and strom be the flanker to capitalize on Lone Wolf.

It's distinctly possible that my list builder is wonky, but I end up at 99 points without Lone Wolf for this build. Am I or my squad builder missing something? 'Cause it seems like a cool idea and good way to use all the sweet new stuff I got with my Raider!

Your right! I was using fabs squadron builder and I double checked my physical cards for this list and it looks like fab has zertiks cost incorrect. He has it as 25 points when it's actually 26. Thanks for pointing that out. I would toss Lone wolf then and just bid for initiative with 99 points or use tactical jammer on the dauntless to buff the shuttle.

I will be flying your list tomorrow!

Haha sweet! You'll be able to test it before even I will so let me know how you do. My plan would be to advance slowly with the shuttle and try to stick it behind the deci whenever you can if your running the deci with tactical jammer. Also only use vader once shields are gone on the target ship. That was my plan but let me know what you ended up doing!

I'd play it! Haha.

I'm liking this idea, with the crew swap from op ...

As for lone wolf on Strom, I'm not crazy about because his ability can help other friendly ships if he is at range one of the enemy, and you might want him close to the deci..

Although I think the point issue dropped it anyway

Ya exactly, fabs squad generator is off by 1 point so lone wolf has to drop. I'm thinking maybe of using the emperor to buff stroms defense rolls. Keep him doing his thing as long as possible. Occasionally using the emperor to buff his attacks when needed but once his shields are gone I would use the emperor to try to save as much damage as possible.

Flew the list twice today and didn't lose a ship, though admittedly they were in casual games and not against tier 1 lists. Still, seems pretty strong - obviously Advanced Targetting Computer with Palpatine backup is bad, bad news. Then add Vader crew in and it's a crit-fest. Shuttle proved to be a tempting target for both opponents and I actually had good results with turning it into the fray - it's no slouch with those 3 attack dice and Zertik was always there to clean it up. Don't think his ability activated once because he was always behind guys shooting at the shuttle. Used Vader liberally 'cause I'm used to flying a Doomshuttle and prolly should've been punished for all the self-inflicted damage but it never happened. All in all it's a fun list!

Nice! I'm curious, when you say zertiks ability didn't activate. Was that because he was never at range 1 of anyone due to his friendly ships being in front of him?

You could swap to Alozen instead of dropping Lone Wolf to make the points work. You lose the range one damage debuff but you get better action efficiency with his free target lock.

The thing that works well with the pilots in your list and the Emperor is that in a lot of matches your opponent's big threats will shoot at you first letting you be more confident about using the Emperor for offense instead of defense.

Totally. Bad guys were between Zertik and the shuttle, facing the shuttle, pretty much all day. In both battles, Emperor gave Zertik some frustrating (for the opponent) rerolls in the first exchange and after that they had tunnel on the shuttle. Truth is I learned more about how not to fly against your list than how to fly the list itself: Palpatine is scary, but not so scary that you should ignore the Decimator that Vader is killing for you, or the Advanced that's shooting your tail off!

This was exactly my experience.
