Would you change how you purchased XWing???

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

Knowing what I know now, I'd have bought in at the beginning.

I remember when the game was first announced and I saw the first demo videos from GenCon -- I said "Looks cool, but I'd better wait because these minis wargames end up being collectible, or 40k expensive, or flame out fast." So I decided to wait a bit to see how it did ... then forgot about it until I was walking through the B&N last Christmas and saw the ships on the shelf and realized I'd missed about two years.

I wouldn't have bought my second shuttle (which was purchased essentially for advance sensors)

I would still have bought my second falcon (because the paint job on that one is superb)

I would probably have not bought a second firespray (although have made good use of stealth device)

Would not have bought 4 TIE bombers

Would not have bought 4 Interceptors (bought two Imperial Aces and had one gifted from a well meaning relative)

Would not have bought 3 B-Wings (bought two Rebel Aces and had one gifted from a well meaning relative)

Would not have bought 3 Phantoms (didn't even get to play them until post nerf)

Would probably still stick with 3 Defenders (Predator has been good to me)

Would not have bought 5 Z-95's only to get another 4 with Scum

Happy with one Decimator

Happy with one Outrider

Happy with two Aggressors - had enough fun with Bro Bots to justify the purchase

Thought I had bought too many HWKs when I had two but now wish I had three(!)

Thought one Advanced was all that I would ever need, bought another two in anticipation of Raider and now think I've got one more than I need.

I divided my SCUM into four sub-factions and now I need two more Hawks... of course they are now being reprinted.

I would buy them starting in 2012 instead of 2014.

Well, if I'd known my LGS would go full-****** a year after I started, I'd have bought stuff elsewhere, but that's about it. But hey, 1 of everything doesn't need much adjusting.

After the Core, I bought a Y-Wing and E-Wing because they were a couple favorites of mine, and I had a YT-1300 gifted to me for Christmas. After I started playing regularly (but still casually), I borrowed a bunch of different ships each week and printed out a lot of proxy cards so I could try building and testing ships, upgrades, and builds out, which led me to buy the ships I enjoyed running the most, which has continued to today. I ended up with Most Wanted and two more Y-Wings because that is my favorite ship, I wanted to try four Y-Wing builds, and needed more fodder for painting.

I have yet to buy anything for just the cards, as I only play casual and have a large supply of printouts to use as proxies, and will probably continue to do so until I decide to do a tournament and need more.

Fewer Zs. One of the first things I ever bought was five rebel Zs.

And then I got another four from MW.

I'm drowning in Zs! Though

But since you need 16 Zs to fight a Rebels v. Scum swarm game, you are still 5 short.

;)

I have 22 if the Rebel Scum & Villainous Scum team up...

Just getting into it last week, I can't enjoy the pleasure of starting with nothing but x wings and then adding squadrons of new ships as they arrive. I'm stuck needing to buy everything but not wanting to get it all in one clump. I want to enjoy the pleasure of growing my force. I guess its futile and I should just give in.

Welcome new X-Winger!

Oh what I'd give to be in your shoes and have all the waves to pick and choose from!

Enjoy!

What he said, but on the pick and choose... nah because: EPIC!

Immediately following that post I went and bought a y wing, an A wing, a B wing, and an E wing(one each of the available ships) as well as an outrider or whatever the large one is called.

I also ordered the transport and a z wing, an will get the K when they are delivered next Friday.

Prior to this I had 5 X's (one core, one expansion, two traded from the core ties and one donated) the aces pack, and the CR 90.

Help me......

My brain says "less" ,

but my heart says "Nah!"

At least you have a hope with your tie. I'm screwed with a 2 to 1 vote.

Brain - yay

Heart - yay

Wallet - nay

Same vote result every year.

I think maybe the only ships I would consider unpurchasing would be my 3rd and 4th Lambdas. But then again, they are sooooo pretty!

Well, truth is I haven't purchased it yet. In fact I wasn't aware of its existence if I wasn't closely following toy releases for the new film. I am very interested in getting a new set with the black tie fighters. From the looks of it the game is pretty fun, so I look forward to picking the game up here pretty soon.

I bought ships in small groups - generally I got one from each faction to keep things balanced and even once I started expanding my collection (I began in January). I wasn't sure just how invested I would get in this game, and I didn't want to overwhelm myself with ALL of the ships and upgrade cards at once, being brand new to the tabletop gaming world. Of course, now knowing that mistakes were fully made and I wanted to pursue this hobby with a passion and try my hand at competitive play, I could have saved a lot on shipping by buying in bulk from MM or wherever. I just felt guilty about spending triple digits on plastic toys when I've got grad school loans and other adult financial things to consider.

So unlike SOME of you crazies, I still can't afford to buy multiples of every expansion that I want, but I do want to continue to own at least one of each unless I concoct a very special build that requires a couple of a certain ship. So I'll save money where I can, and hopefully the money will not continue to be an issue for that much longer, but I am generally happy that I eased myself into this world the way I did, with a few at a time.

When I first started buying expansion packs, I'd order 2 or 3 at a time from miniature market. But within a few months I'd made enough small orders that if I had just ordered it all at once I'd have qualified for free shipping, I could've had a few more ships for the total price I'd paid in shipping. So now I only order at $100 minimum. Other than that, I've been fairly smart in my purchase, the only regrets are buying 1 too many TIE Interceptors and A-wings that almost never get used.

I think I've only ordered from MM once that wasn't a $100+ order. But for better or worse, I found a game group in December so now I only buy X-Wing from my FLGS. (But I'll probably order my BatleLore expansions from MM.)

Dang! All in one week?! That sounds like you sunk as much money into this game as I did and I started at release in 2015! (I'm exaggerating, but wow, man! That's super exciting!)

I like buying in a large quantities from my local shop because then they give me a discount. Before S&V released, I ordered 4 Most Wanted, 6 Scyks, 4 StarVipers and 4 Aggressors. It was a pricey haul, but my discount amounted to a couple of the expansions being free. Already had 2 Firesprays and HWK's, otherwise it would have hit the bank even harder.

Later, they also treated me well when I told them I wanted one of every Armada release.

Sure was satisfying getting to open all that at once. Twas like Christmas as a child again!

Being a completionist feels so... incomplete.

Honestly, I don't like the YT24. I don't really use it ever.

5 tie bombers was nice in wave3. Now, they never get played.

5 xwings too many too.

5 interceptors are kinda nice, but really the sane people only need 3.

I think another most wanted wouldn't have hurt.

Firesprays still kinda suck. Shouldve gotten only one.

Definitely a 3rd phantom.

A single syck is like sucking a. Never mind.

I think if i knew armada would come out i wouldnt have bought x-wing...both are great games but armada feels more epic to me...

I kinda regret the 2 scyks I have. Hoping there will be a fix some day down the road. Nothing I have tried with them had worked well enough.

The only regret I've got is that I traded my starter set Tie fighters, cards and dials for X-Wings.

Although I don't play Imperial it would have been good to keep them, other than that I'm at the stage now where I only buy the ships I know I'll fly.

I'm currently sitting with 44 ships and I would eventually like the Tantive IV and Rebel Transport, but since I don't play large games at the moment, I can't justify buying them just for some crew and upgrade cards.

That and I've just sunk a small fortune into 40k Conquest

Cheers

I'm in the same boat. I only play Scum and Rebels, but I've bought all the Imperial expansions for upgrades and gave ships away to help get others into the game. Sometimes I regret doing so since the podcasts rave about Imperial lists.

I have complete 100 point sets of every ship besides for the scum Z (7) and HWK (5), no regrets. I even have complete sets of wave 7 preordered besides for the HT.

I don't think I would change anything.

I started playing shortly after Wave 3 and there weren't many ships actually available to buy, so it was a slow build-up, grabbing what I could. After that, I've kept up to date with new ships as they're released. I don't have any epic ships or scum ships (although I have bought and resold some to get cards). I've also tried to keep things sensible, with only one each of the large base ships. Usually two each of the small base ships unless there are repaints or they're really cheap like Z-95/TIE Fighter. The only ship I got a bit silly on was the TIE Interceptor, where I bought two expansions and then two Aces, so I have six. I don't think I've ever used the regular expansion models but I don't regret it because they're my favourite ship and I'm sure I'll find a use for them one day.
