simplicity of x-wing rules

I just feel strange playing s game i don't need a rule book for i

The funny thing is that the FAQ is nearly as many pages as the rulebook at this point. But you should keep both of them near by when you play, they help a lot when interpreting the rules.

Another thing about X-wing's design is that the rulebook cover the basic rules and the pilot and upgrade cards cover all the deeper rules. So the rules are really more extensive than they seem if you're only looking at the rulebook itself.

Well with X-wing the rules are shorter because much of the faction rules is printed on the cards but also in X-wing there is things that can make a game of X-wing more complicated. There is a lot of peripherals needed for playing X-wing, more so than most table tops to include Warmachines/Hordes which have faction token systems. But all movement is done by standard rulers and attacks and defense is done by a readily available 6 sided die.

Okay so lets look at what is needed to play a competitive standard game of the two besides models and the table and terrain.

In Warhammer 40,000

  • Rule book (or booklet)
  • faction book (and list)
  • any English standard measuring ruler.
  • blast templates
  • wound counters (can use different colored dice)
  • standard D6 dice

In Warmachine/Hordes

  • Rule book
  • faction book (and list)
  • faction tokens
  • unit cards
  • game templates
  • standard measuring tape
  • standard d6 dice

In X-wing

  • Rule Book & printout of latest FAQs
  • Pilot and Upgrade cards
  • range templates
  • full set of maneuver templates
  • maneuver dials
  • action and stress tokens
  • shield tokens and damage deck
  • Special 8 sided X-wing dice

So as you see X-wing does take more specialized components to play with when compassion to other table top miniatures and unlike warmachines/hordes and warhammer 40K none of those components are transferable to other games like the dice for example. Now does all the peripherals simplify the game, well it takes a lot of the calculations out of it. A hit is a hit and you don't need to consult a to hit/miss chart as the result is on the dice itself thus taking a lot of the result interpretation out of the players and putting it on the table.

So I wouldn't call X-wing simpler than all other table tops. It is just different and perhaps more unique to other table top games. Does that mean it is the best system for table top games. Well looking at D&D attack wing and I might say no but X-wing is the best system for its theme Star Wars starfighter battles.

I have never seen a ship one shot another. and x-wings take 5 turns if lucky to kill a tie

Are you sure you're applying the bonus attack die for range 1 and applying critical hits to the ties?

Yes am doing heverthing right i just can't get any hits any i do is evade no problem

Yes am doing heverthing right i just can't get any hits any i do is evade no problem

An evade die has fewer evades than an attack die has hits/crits, and it's easier to get rerolls on red die than green, way easier.

You guys are aware this is a troll, right?

That what's hold me back from really liking this game is trying to hit anything. i even done tl/focus for one our two hits then they roll one evade and spend evad token so i miss. btw why do u call me troll what must i do to prove am a real person that is just struggling with the game been playing from day one .and this is what has really held me back in this game is killing things

I have been trying to get in few games against my brother weekly to try and get better and would thru this problem but its really come down to not a nuff hit dice in my opinions

A red die has a 50% chance to do damage unmodified, with a focus token that goes up to 75%.

A green die has 37.5% to evade unmodified, 50% with a focus.

You must be doing something very wrong not to do damage.

Sorry, the forum's been like that lately and I guess it's getting to me.

I watch the how to videos and some battle reports i doing everthing same even on reroll it normal fo .

e to get nothing.

I just don't see what i doing wrong

This guy has form on several 40k forums.

There is debate on whether he is intentionally obtuse or something else. individuals who claim to have real life interaction suggest the latter.

regardless, things generally do not tend to fair well, conversationally speaking.

The expression "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" springs to mind.

proceed with due caution.

Yeah, I made the troll call on his posts looking like intentional misspellings rather than unintentional, idk

not going to lose any sleep on it

All it took for me to quit 40K after 18 years of garbage rules was one read-through of the X-Wing rule book.

Never looked back and I've already played more games of X-Wing in 3 years than I have 40K.
