Kayn Somos painted

By Elrath', in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So, got Twin Shadows and since I'm playing on the side of law and order and using the Military Might deck so I need the troopers ready for action soon.

Painting monochrome is a bit boring but at least highlighting white is a challenge. And Kayn Somos has that nice orange-red shoulder pad. Wasn't sure about the color so I basecoated it with Mephiston Red, then highlighted with Evil Sunz Scarlet. That was too red still so I ended up with Wildrider Red and for further highlights, mixed in some Fire Dragon Bright. That ended up looking nice. I didn't bother removing the mold lines from the Heavy Stormtroopers but I recommend you do so. The ones on the helmet are in the way at least.

Very nice. I'm looking forward to Kayn (as a fellow military-mighter IP). :-)

I really like these :) Battle damage on the trooper leg is superb!!!!

Like the look of all of them.

Thank you for the compliments. These are probably my best looking stormtroopers. To have a break from painting them, I'm currently painting Luke. He's a fun character to paint though I had to paint his face twice since the first time I got too much dark wash in the eye area and it looked like he was wearing a black mask. Since he's not the Lone Ranger, I had to paint over it and try again. :)

I should have taken a photo of that since the "black mask" did look kinda cool.

Well, here's how Luke turned out:

I could never get the eyes quite right on this figure so in the end I decided not to paint them at all. Overall, I'm fairly happy how it turned out. Now I can continue to the other two heavy stormtroopers.

Do you have a list of the colors you used for Luke?

Yes,

I used mainly this image as a guide on colors (belt is different though). http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130417040448/deathbattle/images/8/89/Episode_4_Luke_Skywalker_1.jpg

And I used Citadel Paints to paint him. I primed the figure white.

Entire paint list quickly:

Zandri Dust, Rakarth Flesh, Mechanicus Standard Grey, Abbadon Black, White Scar, Eshin Grey, Kislev Flesh, Reikland Fleshshade, Seraphim Sepia, Agrax Earthshade, Nuln Oil, Lahmian Medium, Ardcoat

Edit: The base: Balthazar Gold, Ironbreaker, Mephiston Red

And a boring, long explanation how I used them: :)

Hair

I basecoated with Zandri Dust , then washed with Seraphim Sepia which is a brown wash not as dark as Agrax Earthshade. You could use Agrax Earthshade too I imagine. I highlighted the hair first with Zandri Dust and then a second highlight with Zandri Dust mixed in with White Scar. After that I applied Seraphim Sepia + Lahmian Medium (50/50) wash because the hair looked too blonde.

Skin

I basecoated with Kislev Flesh , used Reikland Fleshshade to shade the skin and then highlighted first with Kislev Flesh and then the upturned parts of the arms, finger, nose and cheekbones with Kislev Flesh and White Scar mix.

Clothes :

Jacket/shirt I washed with Nuln Oil , then highlighted back with White Scar .

Since pants seemed to be a bit different material in some pictures and not brilliant white as the jacket, I used Nuln Oil + Agrax Earthshade (50/50) mix to shade the pants and then highlighted back with White Scar.

Boots

I found that Rakarth Flesh seems to be very close to the boot color in the photo I linked. So I basecoated with that, used the same Nuln Oil + Agrax Earthshade mix as I used with the pants to shade them. I let the dark wash pool by the feet to shade the color dark part of the boots as I was too lazy to properly paint them. I highlighted the boots first with pure Rakarth Flesh but it felt too dark so I mixed in some White Scar . So, might be better to just highlight straight away with the mix.

Gun / Satchel

I used "Sorastro's Black" which is a 50/50 mix of Abbadon Black and Mechanicus Standard Grey. I then shaded them with Nuln Oil and highlighted with Eshin Grey.

Finally, after matt varnish, used Ardcoat on the belt and satchel since they seem to be taken from a stormtrooper and they both appear very shiny in the movie.

Edit: I do all my Rebels with the same metallic base which is 50/50 mix of Balthazar Gold and Ironbreaker. This gives a nice bronze color. And since Luke is an elite, I painted the rim with Mephiston Red.
