Ladies night out deck

By kyoojin, in Strategy and deck-building

My wife wanted a deck consisting of all women so I put this one together. I'm not very good at making decks yet but this one seemed fun to play. I was looking for any suggestions that might help improve it or point out some weak points. Generally this one will be played in a co-op game and not solo. I appreciate any help and thank anyone ahead of time.

Here is what I came up with:

The Ithilien characters had masks on so figured they could go either way and the northern tracker we also determined they could be ladies too. Side quest scout ahead needs to go in the deck as well.

Deck Strategy:

Strategy is for trapping enemies when you can and trying to get locations and enemies in the victory display for Rossiel's ability. Try to load her up with the cloak and unexpected courage for defense with the next courage going to Idraen. Being one the of ladies Mirlonde is there for moral and questing support.

Total Cards: (54)

Hero: (3)
1x Idraen (The Three Trials)
1x Mirlonde (The Drúadan Forest)
1x Rossiel (Escape from Mount Gram)

Ally: (19)
2x Arwen Undomiel (The Watcher in the Water)
3x Galadriel’s Handmaiden (Celebrimbor's Secret)
2x Imladris Stargazer (Foundations of Stone)
3x Ithilien Lookout (The Dunland Trap)
2x Ithilien Archer (Encounter at Amon Dîn)
3x Ithilien Tracker (Heirs of Numenor)
2x Silvan Tracker (The Dead Marshes)
2x Northern Tracker (Core Set)

Attachment: (20)
2x A Burning Brand (Conflict at the Carrock)
3x Forest Snare (Core Set)
3x Ithilien Pit (Encounter at Amon Dîn)
2x Light of Valinor (Foundations of Stone)
3x Ranger Spikes (Heirs of Numenor)
3x Unexpected Courage (Core Set)
2x Cloak of Lórien (Celebrimbor's Secret)
2x Warden of Anor (The Three Trials)

Event: (14)
3x Expert Trackers (The Lost Realm)
3x Forest Patrol (Assault on Osgiliath)
3x Leave No Trace (Escape from Mount Gram)
3x Out of the Wild (Road to Rivendell)
2x Keen as Lances (Escape from Mount Gram)

Side Quest: (1)

1x Scout Ahead (Wastes of Eriador)

Looks fun indeed! Lore/Spirit are my favourite spheres but I haven't tried an all-women deck myself. Since these heroes are not all terribly beefy (save Idraen, and Rossiel's defense if you get it set up), I would go for more allies even if it's just for chump-blocking. You're not going to get great benefit out of Silvan Tracker among allies, but she (?) does heal Rossiel and Mirlonde so I understand the inclusion. West Road Traveller could be an option, possibly at the expense of Ithilien Pit. I have rarely found a use for that card, but maybe your experience differs. I would also run 3 Light of Valinor to increase draw chance, remove Warden of Arnor (I don't consider it worth it) and maybe add some Lembas. 3x Unexpected Courage will definitely make life easier. A Test of Will and Hasty Stroke are staple cards for me.

edit: What kind of deck are you planning to pair this with? I'd say it would need both combat capabilities and threat reduction. Elrond's Counsel could be a good idea in this deck.

Did you experience and problems with card draw when playing this deck? You might be out of cards after a couple turns unless the partner deck is helping you out.

Some suggestions for card draw:

Ancient Mathom

Deep Knowledge

Daeron's Runes

Peace, and Thought

Expert Treasure Hunter (pairs well with your Imladris Stargazer)

But overall it looks like a fun deck to play!

Thanks for the suggestions, going to try to pull out Warden and swap it with the expert treasure hunters. Going to get to play it today at my FLGS so ill try to tweak it with some of the suggestions. Card draw did not seem to bad as with stargazer she was able to stack her top cards as she wanted. Then again for some reason when she plays this game her ability to get the cards she needs and can use are crazy good when I play the same decks, its not so good. LoL

As for what decks it will be played with, the idea is when she wants to play I just hand her "her girls". She prefers to learn one deck really well. If its just her and I then I'll try to play something that will work well with the quest. Used a modified version of the hobbit deck from the saga. Was working really well till a treachery that did 2 damage to all exhausted characters hit us. That was messy on my side, one guy left and she keep going on for a few more turns till threating out as the deck stacked against us.

If treasure hunter works out I may just add in some test of wills otherwise ill need to find something to swap that with or just make sure I have plenty cancels on my side.

Thanks again for the help I'll post how the tweaking went.

Another suggestion if you are up to changing the heroes around would be a Caldara deck. You could go Caldara/Eowyn/Eleanor for example. It works well with Northern trackers, and of course the female allies Emery and Elven Jeweler. The Zigil miners could be female (how would we know?), and they are great tool for Caldara, as well as resource generation in general (especially when paired with the stargazer).

Have fun!

Got to try it out a few times and so far it seems ok. The weak point that I have ran into has been resources. In about 4 games I played never saw those treasure hunters. They were quite elusive. I took out the sylvan trackers as I was not using their abilities much and the resources I could use on them were better spent else where. I did find I was in a pinch for spirit resources so I added a song in there along with some minstrels. Minstrels worked out great for questing or blockers after they did their job. As for trying out a different set of heroes I'm going to hold off for some more games. Let the wife get to know the game a bit better. I bet after a few more it will not matter who I have for heroes in anything she plays. :-)

I like the idea of the miners... didn't dwarf women have beards and were a bit hard to tell from the guys from time to time? Wonder if I can sell that idea to her?

Here is the current version:

The miner gave me a crazy idea I figured I would do for fun and put in my wife's deck. Found a picture when I googled dwarven miner women. I don't know much about picture editing but after a little work paint does the job. I think it will work for some casual games.

zigil-miner-girl.jpg

Interesting idea (although where's her beard?? :) )

Just wanted to point out that if you are going to do some photo editing anyway, it might make more sense to use the errata'd text.

Thanks, discovered that shortly after showing the card to my wife. She accused me of cheating and making up cards. Lol

I was trying to make something like this too, but with just female heroes instead of all female. I also don't have the complete collection of cards yet. I'll have to follow this one.

I'm happy to hear you find it interesting and would be interested in hearing how you do or what you change in it.

After some play throughs finding this deck quite enjoyable. Current version has the minstrel and song of travel pulled for zigil miners. Experimenting with the ithilien pits removed. Thinking of adding one more stargazer to make getting the treasure hunter, stargazer and miner combos working more reliable. After I see a few more plays ill update the deck.

Also want to say thanks again for the help in making this. I have learned quite a bit through just working this one idea. There are more I'm eager to try after all I've learned.

After tweaking and testing this is the current deck list. Still not a super deck but fun to play and once it gets started becomes pretty good at defending. Its also pretty good at getting some annoying stuff out of the encounter deck as well.
