Do epic ships get friendly bonuses?

By Viceroy Bolda, in X-Wing

Can a Raider accompanied by Howlrunner with swarm tactics and Cpt. Jonas use those benefits?

yup

a little fiddly because you have to move the huge ship after and still be in r1, which is sometimes tricky without crushing your own ships

For now the only friendly benefit that is specifically named as not working on Huge ships is Biggs.

I expect an errata concerning Howlrunner at least though.

Huge ships do not benefit from free actions or assigned tokens.

Currently yes. I hope they change it though, because a TIE bomber glued to Range 1 of the Raider being essential to its targeting is just daft.

They don't benefit from Focus or Evade tokens.

However Jendon can pass a Raider a Target Lock, and Dutch can allow a Corvette to acquire a Target Lock.

Jan can buff its attack dice, Roark can buff its pilot skill, Torkil can debuff its pilot skill, and Howlrunner and Jonus can grant it rerolls.

Currently.

It's not that wierd.

Missile targeting is a lot tougher than turbolaser targeting, you don't exactly need a fully-following lock for turbolasers due to the projectile speed. The Raider doesn't have ordnance like that, and it's entirely conceivable that the Raider's tracking systems are more stripped-down than the Bomber's. It certainly doesn't have the external sensor arrays you'd see on an ISD.

That doesn't seem broken at all.

Thought is that Jendon and Jonus would stay in range 1 of the raider to give it a free target lock every round and to give it re-rolls on its secondaries while soontir and the ties kept anything from getting to close to the Raider

I am a big proponent of the Varaider in epic. But you got the right idea Huge ships got ripped off in dice modification that is making them pretty lousy in comparison to the swarms of small and large ships you can take.

Nor does the TIE bomber. If it needed a TIE bomber's telemetry module you could fit the entire hull inside the Raider as is, and the Raider's scaled down. Having that little bomber (or fighter with Howlrunner) glued at Range 1 being essential to targeting is moronic.

Okay then.

Furthermore, mechanically you severely impair the Raider's targeting by hitting that little TIE bomber next to it. That's also really jarring. But it's also so useful that people will use it.

Having a spotter is a good idea. :)

I very much hope they errata the free actions rule out of existence. Huge ships have a variety of builds, and limiting their synergies hinders what you can do with them.

I dunno, VI Cracken to let the Transport crash into a different huge ship and fix the damage during combat? Or have the Transport then coordinate, doubling the effectiveness of Crackens free actions during combat?

Or Decoy Cracken to change the PS4 and PS8, have the Corvette shoot, then Cracken gives his action to the Corvette who finishes up with Slicer Tools?

There might be too many opportunities for abuse.

Those are all good points, but do rely on a Small ship being at range 1 of a Huge ship (scary place to hang out), and in Cracken's case that small ship also has to fire at an enemy ship to pass along the action. That's a level of coordination which is difficult enough to maybe deserve a reward.

But why not fit those accuracy improving targeting modules into the Raider itself? It's easily big enough.

It's silly for the Raider's targeting to be hampered so much by losing a little TIE bomber flying next to it.

There are modern munitions where a spotter will paint a target with a laser and the plane overhead will drop the munition and let the bomb/missile do its work.

Or, differently, being able to triangulate your sightlines makes things more accurate in a way that you can't do just with onboard telemetry.

Or, differently: that degree of coordination creates some interesting gameplay dynamics, and so should be encouraged.

I don't think there is any chance for abuse with huge ships at the way they are. You would spend more points on a huge ship and get better results with a Fat Han.

Now I do agree huge ships are way different from smaller starfighters and shuttles. So it really doesn't make any sense to give them stress or focus tokens and such that you would for a smaller ship. That should not change.
