Ships to ban in Escape from Hoth/Point of No Return?

By Aerothorn, in X-Wing

Hey All -

I'm thinking of running the two Rebel huge ship campaigns for the first time since those ships came out. In the intervening waves we've seen a lot of new stuff, and I wanted to ask: are there any ships you think would "break" the campaigns (e.g. Phantom) that should not be allowed play? Or do they still Work As Intended?

Also - I'm assuming that one should NOT have the "weapons start with full power" change in the CR90 campaign, since it was designed without that in mind.

How about ships that were not in Episode V so that would leave.

  • Rebel GR-75 Medium Transport
  • X-wings
  • TIE Fighters
  • TIE Interceptors (thanks to special edition)
  • TIE Bombers
  • Millennium Falcon
  • Imperial Star Destroyers (which are not out yet)

And everything else can be banned :D

You can use Raiders with a goal of getting enough Ion tokens to deny them for two turns at the edge to substitute for the Star Destroyers.

I used all the new Imperial swag and lost.

TIE phantoms are hard countered by the GR-75.

Y-Wings also appear in this film, both theatrical and special edition. Final fleet sequence at the end.

So do Corvettes...

When I played the Escape from Hothi researched the canon on wookiepedia and put in my Rebel roster only characters and droids that were there and on escort duty. That was a mistake Lol. Phantoms hurt a lot back then, so we had banned those but maybe you don't need to now? I didn't really consider the transport a hard counter to them with out certain build out

Weren't A wings on hoth?

Weren't A wings on hoth?

Film-wise or EU? Not in ESB unless one of the specialbus editions added them.

I did the CR-90 campaign over a few weekends recently with a friend. Our impressions on a single play-through were that the first and last missions seemed unwinnable by the Empire, while the middle missions seemed unwinnable by the Rebels. So they already seemed "broken" without resort to meta-dominating ships. Obviously this was based on limited experience with mission strategies, so take that for what it's worth. We still liked them enough to want to go through it all again.

Hmm.. I lost both the first and mission as a rebel.. **** ties and their 3 greens .

But we choose to play the campaign inly with ships from the OT

I played both campaigns after the release of Rebel Aces and Wave 5.

I don't remember too much brokenness in Hoth, but my opponent was still relatively new to squad building. Decimators made an appearance during both campaigns, but I don't think the Phantom did. I didn't spend points on a Falcon or Outrider, but did have great fun with some of the named X-wing pilots, Keyan Farlander, and Corran Horn. (I also brought Lt. Blount along with some Assault Missiles.) The main thing to watch out for is Suicide Run Syndrome for the Imperials. Encourage them to at least try to knock out an escort or two along the way. I suspect H1 would go very painfully for the Rebels if the Thunderstruck list showed up and just kept hammering the transport.

As for the CR90 campaign, I think it's more resistant to power creep due to the enforced squads and restrictions on unique ships/upgrades. For instance, T2A brings Fel without any modifications, and T3A requires a pre-TIE/x1 Maarek Stele. I'd just watch out for Extra Munitions in T2B due to the extra-powerful bomb effects.

Seriously?

Um..... Slave 1? Lambda?

Come on, guys.

Well, Lambda appears only in special edition....

Slave one is clear oversight
