What is the Best 4 ship Imperial Build?

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

Im rather partial to running four OGP's with engine upgrade

It's not an easy list to fly but the EU does help

But **** can it be frustrating for your opponent trying to find places for his ships to park with out running into one of these beasts

If your good at Manoeuvring.... I run 4 Royal Guard Tie Interceptors with PTL with a lot of success. (Dont expect to have all your ships at the end of the game though....)

If not... Then you could go with 4 Saber Squadrons with PTL and Autothrusters. (You give up 2 pilot skill for more survivability).

Previous Tournament I went with Soontir Fel with PTL and Autothrusters, Patrol Leader with Vader crew and 2 Academies. it went 3-1

i have my carnor jax with autothrusters and PTL alongside 3 VI interceptors

Nice, I should try to give Carnor a try, however I think interceptors benefit more from PTL than VI because it gives them that additional action against turrets and other tricks people would otherwise use. I also find that my 4 royal guards are wrecking 2 ship lists ATM, Plus I've used it against a TLT swarm, these little bastards are hard to hit, and since the TLT's can't deal crits I don't have to worry about negative effects like Direct hit or weapons Malfunction, dropping a ship a turn with these guys is super easy, maybe except for a Deci or an Aggressor with amazing luck. However, especially against turrets, don't expect to sweep your opponent cause after alpha strike they will start to disappear very quickly if your not paying attention.

Interceptors are still relying on green dice and the current trend is red dice really don't matter...you just get hit these days. Bug zappers, mines, bombs, vader, and now double and triple attack ships (with more double attackers on the way)... Low HP ships are in trouble unless some small ships get some real damage mitigation.

Anyone have some good imperial builds that include the two basic Tie's that come with the starter set, plus 1-2 imperial expansion ships? I'd like to keep things pretty basic and based around small games. At first I thought it would be cool to have the tie bomber flanked by two ties but maybe I should wait and do that with the inquisitors tie. The tie advanced is okay to me, but I am not an enormous fan of the physical look of that one.

That's why you have to have a perfect alpha strike every time. ;)

In all seriousness though, the interceptors are very fragile and rely on evade dice a lot I know this, Darth Vader's Crew card is really the only thing I dislike with these list, it is frustrating with feedback arrays giving you damage and all, but it's still just normal damage, I hate Vader because he causes auto Crits which hurt my ships significantly. Feedback arrays are okay to deal with cause it's just normal damage. (Easier to deal with than Criticals). Bombs and Mines were not really a threat to me in the past, however... It will take time getting used to manoeuvring around these new bombs and mines. Plus with Interceptors unless your against a turret you rely more on your manoeuvring skills than dice. When fighting against turrets all you can do is face them head on hoping to cripple them heavily before you start losing your ships.

Interceptors are definitely a weaker choice to make for a list, but put a man who can manoeuvre them really well (Not Boasting of course ;) ) and they become really hurtful toward non turret ships. Plus Autothrusters has scared off many turret list so it's more arc dodging than dice, Well that's how it is over hear where I live. Dash with mangler is one that I'm having the most difficulty with right now.

4 space cows with Accuracy corrector. seriously its not as bad as folks think. just stagger them so that they protect each other as best you can. a wheel formation works great but is hard to attain..
