Last 4 points for TLT Warthog list?

By FuturistiKen, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've got my two K-Wings preordered and I can't wait run a TLT Warthog squad! Just not sure how to spend my remaining points - I'm at 96 currently with...

4x Gold Squadron Pilot/Syndicate Thug (18 x 4 = 72pts)

- title (0pts)

- Twin Laser Turret (6 x 4 - 24pts)

- ?????

I guess the obvious if I go Rebels is R2 units all around, but with Warthogs do I really even care about actions/stress that much? Guess I could also do R5s on everyone, just don't have much experience with them because I don't tend to worry too much about regen of any kind on a Y-Wing. Also considered donwgrading to Ion Cannon Turrent on one to make room for StressBot and have a traditional StressHog build in the mix.

What if I went Scum instead of Rebels, is that the better route since R4s really do open up the dial a little better than R2s?

What do you guys think?

I think the R2s are a solid choice here because TLT warthogs are essentially very powerful jousters, but are probably going to need to K-turn because their dial isn't very good. But they only have native access to straight greens! So if you get stress from any source, your next move is fairly predictable, or you are forfeiting your action by taking a white maneuver.

The R2 astro really opens up the dial when you've taken stress, though - it's a fantastic deal for one point on a TLT Warthog.

Downgrading one ship to an ICT to get your paws on a stress bot isn't a bad idea, but I think R2s all around is also a solid choice.

I think running BTL-A4 with twin laser turrets is a mistake. Sure its a lot of firepower at range 2/3, but it forces the y-wing into a jousting role and leaves it with an obvious weakness (arc-dodgers). Running 4 of these bad boys with 360 firing is less powerful on the joust, but leaves you with no bad matchups. You just have to keep things out of the 'donut hole'...

I think I'd probably do something like this with Rebels:
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2 Astromech (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2 Astromech (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2 Astromech (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R3-A2 (2)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)
Total: 100
And something like this with Scum:

Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Torkil Mux (19)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Total: 100

These are all great ideas, thanks! In particular it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to think that it's okay to NOT run the titles. I'm still a pretty crappy pilot so being able to not worry about my arcs and still say that blade_mercurial and WWHSD said I should is a bonus in my book (this should be read as sincerity, not snarky-ness).

If your local meta favours a lot of arc-dodgers, or swam builds, I would say there is nothing wrong with avoiding the title and making the most of the Y-Wing's natural ability, i.e. the turret. If you think you're going to face a two, large-ship build then maybe the turret is the way to go to maximise the about of damage you do on the first pass. And as Babaganoosh has said, if you given them the R2 units, you can then K-turn and come back for another pass with much more flexibility as far as manouvering goes.

I don't the the title would be bad with TLT if you had a more varied list or if you knew that you'd be playing against a list that wanted to joust.

TLT Warthogs might be a nice fit with something like Dash (though I think they'd be fine without the title here as well).

Dash Rendar (36)
Lone Wolf (2)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Recon Specialist (3)
Outrider (5)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2 Astromech (1)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)
