Gotta do something about Huge Monster Reinforcement

By Omnislash024, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm solo playing The Shadow Rune now and currently am going through the Fat Goblin Quest. I picked Arachuryas as the open group this time.

As some of you might recall, a similar situation happened to me before, where a Huge monster spawned as a Reinforcement at the entrance, had no legal spot to spawn onto because of figure placement and was then placed in front of the heroes. Well it happened again and because the heroes were forced to kill a third master Arachurya before getting a chance to move onward, it all but closed any chance at all of the heroes catching any goblins.

This can't happen again.

I don't care if the Overlord moves a monster in order to delay heroes... that should be perfectly legal. But if something is going to be reinforced on an entrance tile on a quest that asks the heroes to get from A to B in a certain period of time, then I think it's time to call in some house rules.

Thoughts on this?

If the heroes are aware of how reinforcements work, then it's their own fault that they positioned themselves so the large monsters would pop in front of them. The players need to learn from the situation.

Encounter 1 of Fat Goblin is hard for the heroes. You'll rarely save more than one of the crops.

Encounter 2 is where the heroes usually win, and truly all that matters, because that's where the quest results are awarded.

I'm with Cursain. The heroes gotta do something about the large monster. That is, plan their turns such that the large monster has ample room to pop in out of their immediate way.

The ratio is 50/50 usually for me.
