2 Movement Actions with Big Monsters

By Scharpes, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi all,

probably this was answered already but I cant find a clear answer to the question in specific neither in the FAQ nor in earlier posts..

So whenever I do a movement action, I gain movement points according to my speed value. I can use these points to move before, in between and after other actions. Big monsters need to "expand" before they take another action.

Does this also apply when I only do 2 consecutive move actions with big monsters? Due to the "expansion", it would be beneficial to the OL, potentially gaining an additional space. We played it the first campaign like this, also because it seems logical to me, as the two (movement) actions are carried out consequently, as opposed to declaring 2 movement actions at once and then moving twice the speed value.

Would be really happy if anyone could clarify this to me quickly! Happy gaming :)

Action 1: Declare Move Action, gain Movement up to Speed.

Choose a space the monster occupies and Shrink it to that space. Use your movement Points and move a number of spaces. Expand the monster so that it's base occupies all legal empty spaces including the space that was moved into.

You can then Declare a second move action and repeat.

Yup. This is legal as two separate move actions, or by interrupting one with another. Remember that when you interrupt for any reason, you must expand. If you cannot expand, you cannot interrupt. (However, you can totally take 2 move actions right away to get through a longer passage where you can't normally expand.)

But to do one big move action, you have to announce it first. Like with the pit trap issue, if a hero with 4 speed, moves 4 points and a pit trap is played, he can't use his other move action to escape the stun effect. But if he said he's going to double move at the start of his action phase, he wouldn't be stunned after 4 points of movement.

Excellent, thanks a lot for clarifiying! This was one bit of rule we were not certain about, now we can go to Nerekhall with a clear conscience :)

Ps: Sorry about the formatting mess in my original posts, dont know what happpend there!

Cheers!

1x2, 2x2 and 2x3 monsters + movement expansion is soooo powerful. Especially when you lay down an OL card like No Rest for the Wicked.

Then you're really punishing the heroes for that fatigue move.

Large monster movement is indeed a powerful thing. The monster groups are usually more easily deatlt with, however, as they require less damage to kill and generally deal less damage per group than a pack of smaller monsters.

I think of it as this: The larger the monster, the less steps it takes to cover more distance.
