Disappointed with Raiders Size

By Vitalis, in X-Wing

Anyone else is disappointed with Raiders size?

Well im. When i put her next to CR90 well....CR90 fells really bulky, and massive for that scale, and Raider is more like "out-of-scale-weird-thing". I feel it lacks...not much, maybe 10% on height. The bridge is just weird like it would be really tight in there.

I know its not ISD , and the scale is relative but i though all huges gonna be same scale. Like i said its not much, maybe 10% too small maximum. And only compared to CR90, compared to fighters it looks nice, but next to CR its really dwarfed.

I've a feeling people will be saying the same when a Gozanti goes against a Transport. Might even hold true sized against the CR-90.

Cool models

Messed up scaling

You realise the Raider was created to specifically be that size and that the Tantive and Rebel Transport were scaled down more than 1:270 to fit on the table?

If the epic ships were to scale, I would have been interested in them. As it is, they're not... so I'm not.

The Raider's 150m, scaled down as much as the CR90.

The earliest prototypes were. They were so big that they'd be impractically expensive, and furthermore they were too big to play right. So they were scaled down.

You missed my point. Im perfectly fine with relative scale-cr90 looks cool and fits scale.

I mean that Raider looks to small in comparison to cr90, to sleek . Like i said it looks nice next to fighters, but compared to cr90...:(

Look at it this way: The bridge extends into the main bulk of the ship. What you see is only the top where the windows are. If you were in it, windows could very well be from your waist up or more.

edit: LOL

Ew. Why are the bathrooms also on the bridge?

So officers have a quick commute to their stations. obviously.

=)) Slip of the tongue? On the keyboard?

I don't see why. It looks right when you think of the scale. It's a anti-fighter support, right? That means it doesn't need to hold all the crazy stuff that needs to be on larger ships. I think what makes it look smaller than the CR-90 is the wedge shape, but that's the Imperial look and it also serves a very specific purpose.

10% smaller is about right as the ships were scaled down to fit on an X-wing play-mat.

There's a difference between the two though in that the Cr90 is a multi-role vessel, whereas the Raider is a dedicated warship: think how much smaller the Defiant was in DS9 than anything else the federation had.

Raider: armour plate and laser cannons

CR90: karaoke bar and ambassadorial hot-tub

The real difference!

I can't hold back any longer.....

"It's not the size that counts; it's how you use it"

The Imperial Navy demands peak efficiency! Now, you no longer have to waste valuable minutes on allowing your naval officers to have bathroom breaks.

(I'm so sorry.)

It does seem wrong to me. I really like it, but there's some cognitive disconnect going on. When I look at it, the I can't but help think 'Star Destroyer' and my sense of scale suddenly jumps, like one of those optical illusions where you unfocus your eyes and suddenly see the inverse image as two people kissing instead of two lamps side by side. Look at it one way, it's the right scale and the CR90 is out of whack, look at it again and the CR90 is fine but this tiny 'Star Destroyer' looks wrong on the table. I think they made a slight mistake in making it so closely mirror the classic shape; a little more snub-nosed or something and I think the disconnect wouldn't be so bad.

More table-time will correct that, I'm sure.

The solution, obviously, to avoid comparisons is to blow up any cr90's before they get close enough for comparison.

Oh no no no. When arguing about scale, let's NOT bring up the Defiant or anything about the DS9 station itself. There are giant gulfs in correct relative scale there.

Look at the cute tiny access hatches on the top of the main hull. Then look at the windows, which are set at waist height, just like in the films. Then look at a Y-Wing or similar ship.

It is as right as it could be.

;)

I have absolutely ZERO disapointments with the Raider. Well, if you exclude the fact that I didn't have it a year ago.

The only thing I'm disappointed with is the awful paintjob. It's the first FFG mini I've got and decided it NEEDS a repaint.

A CR-90 in 1/270 scale would almost be 2 feet long. Its hard to transport as is.

The only issue i have with the raider is that I cant see anything that would be docking hatches or any way for the ship to land.

Minor gripes that are non-issue in the context of the game, but lore-wise it is frustrating me.

Yeah, you can tell it wasnt created with the same focus and attention to detail the ILM studio put into the CR90.
