Mirror Talent Trees?

By Celerian, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is there anything preventing you from taking, say, the Technician: Slicer tree and the Spy: Slicer tree on the same character? Kinda curious about this, since the specializations with the same names in different careers seem to have been copypasta'd (at least, the two pairs I checked were; this is not a value judgment, FYI).

I see nothing preventing it but if they are the same then why waste XP?

You cant have the same specialization 2 times

Per Age of Rebellion page 343, no, you cannot purchase the same spec twice.

Most of the talents are ranked, and the ones that aren't are mostly at the end of the tree(s). Mostly it was just an amusing thought about how the GM would react if someone actually got to use Improved Defensive Slicing with 6 ranks of Defensive Slicing (that's six difficulty upgrades, for those of you playing along at home).

My mind goes weird places sometimes. It occasionally even brings back souvenirs.

ETA: If the book says I can't, then I guess I can't. Oh well. Making the GM have to roll +3r would've been amusing.

It isn't a "mirror" specialization, it is the same specialization, just in different careers. So no, you can't purchase it again.

That's already been mentioned twice, but thanks. :P

Yeah, I've seen people take issue though and say, "Well it's not the same specialization, because look at the Career skills on the top of the page; they're different!" Preemptive clarification :)

They are the same tree, so you can`t. It belongs to both careers and can thus be taken as starting spec for both those careers or cost less when bought later(not 10 extra).

Not mirror specs, but one and the same spec.

Edit: Third time`s the charm?... Mirror answer?

I say your house your rules....and it would be amusing

Generally easier to talk a GM into something if the book doesn't explicitly forbid it. :D

Well... you do have to have SOME way of finding out Emperor Palpatine's first name in-character. Sheev don't come easily around here!

Too bad these are not the skill ranks you are looking for! Well, they are... but you can't get there this way...

I already know. It's Mortimer. Why else would he come up with Darth Sidious? :P

Why do first language english speakers think Sheev is such a ridiculous name? Is it because it sounds like Steve?

Possibly because, in the context of the post I quoted, "Sheev" sounded like an expletive, not a name? :P

Sheev just sounds kinda silly.

But then, so do Wedge, Crix, Obi-Wan, and Biggs. But we've gotten used to those :) So I suppose in time, with the right amount of exposure, Sheev could become an equally-accepted part of the Star Wars mythos.

Silly names are just part of Star Wars.

I'm already starting to like Phasma. It has a Flash Gordan kind of feel to it.

Sheev just sounds kinda silly.

To me it sounds just like any other fantasy name, not really silly sounding at all. The silliest silliest name in my norwegian ears is Boba Fett. But then, Fett actually means fat, fatty or lard in my language and Boba just sounds really redneck.

Someone has had to have adressed this before!... No?

Boba Fett ist oberfett!

Ja Klar.

Ahh. Good ol' Bubba Fat.

Meh, I prefer Bubble Feet.

If you're just interested in a way to gain more ranks in Defensive Slicing, you can always pick up the Artisan spec from F&D. It has 2 ranks, and it requires no Force Talents to get them and Dedication, so there is no reason to pick up a Force Emergent/Exile spec first.
