Turn off the fire hose!

By patox, in X-Wing

At least it isn't Wizkids vomiting 3 ships a month.

I want a gif of this.

What fire hose?

X-wing is moving alone at a nice steady pace.

The new movie and it's related junk is the extra beating our wallets are taking.

Just look at trek wing, wave 18! Bloody 18....

Even D&D wing is upto wave 6.....

Seriously considering trying to sell my LCG collection (for whatever it's worth). I don't play it anymore and could use the funds for X-Wing.

RIGHT ON BROTHER!

I am so happy FFG is getting fired up! Half the fun is buying these badass toys, and the library of filing the paper and setting up storage cases and setting up cool displays... then you can even play games too?!

Hels-yahs!

Go FFG GOooo!!!

I just converted much of the remainder of my old M:TG collection into credit at CSI... and promptly pre-ordered the Gozanti and all of Wave 8. The rest of my credit will go straight to whatever is released on September 4th.

I will need to look into a new storage solution for X-Wing by the time I get all of these orders.

Over the Internet? Do they pay well? I would do that.

Our budgets can't repel plastic spaceships of that magnitude!

I see nice affordable Chicken tenders and Ramen Noodles being more prevalent at dinner... plus bags of Broccoli Normandy, so I don't die.

:D

At this point it's butter sandwiches for me and if all this awesome continues I'll just starting eating my extra number tokens and target locks

If you take the planned average from August to December instead, it'll be 11* (or more) releases comprising (at least) 13 new ships in 5 months.

(*Kihraxz, Hound's Tooth, K-wing. TIE Punisher, Raider, [redacted], Gozanti, TIE Adv Prototype, Ghost + Phantom, Punishing One, Mist Hunter)

Let's check the history a bit, maybe?

The Raider was announced in December, and just arrived. 9 months.

The Corvette was announced at GenCon, released in April (last day, but we'll be generous). 8 months.

Wave 6 announced at GenCon, released in February (last week, but again, generous). 6 months.

Wave 5 announced in June, released in October. An impressively short 4 months.

In each of these cases, especially the GenCon ones, the announcement included the fully-painted models. Something we didn't get this year, instead getting the models with a nice spray camo pattern. But I'm sure that given that, they'll do just fine hitting that January target with everything.

And really, Vorpal... Intentionally setting the goalposts outside discrete events to try and make the average look better? I know you know better than that, and that you have to go there pretty much just proves the point.

I think I accidentally clicked report on stoneface's post while tryin to hit the "back to x wing" button.

Sorry

Ps. Agreed, financial ruin will happen.

I'm reporting you for that!

I think the way they release news gas a lot to do with the perception. Because they announce a new wave at or even before the release of the current wave it creates an impression of non-stop releases, even if that newly announced wave won't be available for 6 months.

I'm hoping for a release schedule like this:

September 2015: Wave 7

November 2015: Episode 7 stuff (I heard something about 9/4, but I think that's just the day that Episode 7 Stuff will be announced, not the actual release date)

March 2016: Wave 8

May 2016: Gozanti, maybe an Aces pack

September 2016: Wave 9

Allows each wave/release at least a couple months to be enjoyed.

Ah I see your problem, dairy.

Toast that bread then drink water to wash it down.

Now you can get that extra ship for your collection

True! Problem is I no longer need a wallet. Just a rubber band to hold my license and library card. :(

I used to have a bank account :(

It's entirely possible they'll miss the planned release date for the next wave. That's still their plan.

And really, Vorpal... Intentionally setting the goalposts outside discrete events to try and make the average look better? I know you know better than that, and that you have to go there pretty much just proves the point.

When I first replied to the thread (agreeing with its premise), I was actually thinking about the potential for two full waves and two ".5" releases between GenCon and Christmas. I'm planning to accommodate that schedule because they're planning to release things that way, but it really does feel like a lot.

Even setting all that aside, however--that is, ignoring the fact that theres nothing duplicitous at all about anything I've said here--you deliberately excluded imminent releases to make the average look worse, so maybe lighten up with the stone-throwing.

My wallet feels like a herd of Jawas ran over it. A big herd.

A sandcrawler.

I like the idea of getting rid of games I no longer play that someone mentioned. I've gotten out my MtG cards and 40k Epic stuff. Time to make room.

For me at least this game is a bit pricey. Too much too fast. Of course I don't have to get anything but I am one of 'those' buying ships I'm not fond of for cards I want. Sure I can print them but it isn't the same and I'll probably end up doing so anyway to get as many as I need. But I like the figures, Star Wars Universe and game play. Because of X-Wing, or I should say because of my X-Wing purchases I've curtailed my Imperial Assault and Eldritch Horror to only the first wave and stayed clear of Armada but that just me.

But that's me.

I still do. But now it's a mason jar. Pint size.

I have some MtG stuff I could sell, a few revised edition dual lands. But something just won't let me pull the trigger and sell them.

I think both Vorpal and Buhallin are right. If you look at the ships per year FFG doesn't really produce that much, compared to other games. But we do tend to buy everything they put out rather then just stuff for a given faction, and even not always those.

Lets look at what we got and are likely to get this year.

Wave 6 S&V had 4 packages with 5 ships, and we have the Raider and Tie Advanced. Wave 7 will have 4. We're likely to get another 2 soon, and maybe another 4 yet this year.

So Buhallin isn't completely correct because everything points at Wave 7 being out yet this month. But even then we're talking about 11 ships so far this year. With maybe 6 more yet this year, so at most we're likely to see 17 ships in 2015. That's just a bit over a ship a month.

But there is the fact that in about a 30 day period we're looking at the Raider, Tie Advanced, Wave 7, and the TFA stuff, that's a lot of ships in a month period.

That's just a bit over a ship a month.

If I'm counting correctly, we've had 32 releases with 28 ships (counting epic) in the 37 months we've had the game (August 2012 to August 2015). If we assume there are two new ships in the three mystery SKUs, and we get them all on September 4, that will make 35 releases with 30 ships in 38 months (on average, a new ship every 5 weeks).

If we get Wave 8 by the end of the year, that will be 4 more releases and 5 more ships in 3 months (October 1 to December 31). That's 39 releases with 35 ships in 41 months.

But, as you say, that doesn't change the fact that between GenCon and September 4 we're likely to get the Raider, Wave 7, and the mystery SKUs, which is something like 10 times faster than the overall average pace of release.

which is something like 10 times faster than the overall average pace of release.

Yeah it's a matter of ships per paycheck really.

I honestly don't know how the attack wing people do it, unless they really stick to a single faction or something. There is by my count 90 ships in Attack Wing, that's roughly 3 times the number of ships that we have in X-Wing.

There is also the issue that many of us who play X-Wing also play Armada and Imperial Assault, and perhaps other FFG games. When you figure the Raider, Wave 7, TFA stuff, Armada Wave 2, IA's Twin Shadows, expansion packs, and Return to Hoth and expansion packs... FFG will be getting a lot of my money over the next few months.

What's worse for me is I'm really considering picking up Netrunner. I played that back when it was Richard Garfield who made it, and would love to play it again. But until now didn't really have anyone else to play it with. Found out my LGS would love to try it to.

...but seriously we need that X-wing credit card from page one.

But, as you say, that doesn't change the fact that between GenCon and September 4 we're likely to get the Raider, Wave 7, and the mystery SKUs, which is something like 10 times faster than the overall average pace of release.

And between September 24th and September 26th we're likely to get 4 new ships, four ships in three days means like FOUR HUNDRED SHIPS A YEAR! No wonder people complain, how can anyone possibly keep up with such a release rate?

our ships in three days means like FOUR HUNDRED SHIPS A YEAR!

That is both uncalled for, and way beneath you. If this kind of pointless drivel is the best you can manage in a post, you may want to take another break from the forms.

The point both myself and VS were making, is there is a lot of X-Wing stuff coming out in a fairly short time. So while yes there isn't a ton of stuff per year, there's still a lot of stuff to buy in a period of 4-6 weeks.

Now I just want to get one of those credit cards that lets you put your own image on, just so that I can have that in my wallet.

With all the plastic crack FFG is releasing it will be the only thing soon... FFG you chased Mandela* away...

*all our banknotes have Nelson Mandela on them.
