The next few months is turning into an embarrassment of riches.
Turn off the fire hose!
I'm hoping for a nice long break before the next set of releases. If Wave 8 comes in at the end of this year or beginning of next (for FFG's sake, I'm hoping holiday 2015), I'd like to see the next releases at GenCon next year.
True! Problem is I no longer need a wallet. Just a rubber band to hold my license and library card. ![]()
My wallet feels like a herd of Jawas ran over it. A big herd.
I just converted much of the remainder of my old M:TG collection into credit at CSI... and promptly pre-ordered the Gozanti and all of Wave 8. The rest of my credit will go straight to whatever is released on September 4th.
I will need to look into a new storage solution for X-Wing by the time I get all of these orders.
Need an X-Wing credit card.

Just imagine - instead of cashback rewards or airline miles, you get a random acrylic token set or alt-art card for every $100 spent.
I always find this an ironic complaint. X-wing's release schedule barely qualifies as a snail's pace compared to most miniatures games. Yet we very often hear complaints that it's all coming too fast. Really, the last wave hit in January, it's now August - that's averaging a ship every two months or so? There's absolutely nothing "fire hose" about that release schedule. "Anemic" is a better term.
I've been pondering this, and I actually think a big part of the source of this is the sales model. Very few miniatures games expect or require you to buy every product that comes out. There may be 6 new Warmachine models this month, but only one is for my faction, and it may not even fit my usual army. But the brilliance/evil of X-wing's distribution system means you can barely do that. Literally every single release has cards that fit every single players. Many players just accept this by playing every faction in the game. Others buy ships they might not want to get cards they do. And almost everyone buys extra copies of ships they'll never use just to get the right cards they will (my fifth A-wing is looking at me sadly).
If there is a "fire hose" for X-wing, it's the one funneling your money to FFG, not a massive flow of new product to us.
Edit: Wave 6 hit on February 24th. To date, we've got exactly one new ship: the Raider. If we include the soon-to-be-released Wave 7, we've got 5. In that time, Privateer Press has release FORTY-THREE new WarmaHordes SKUs. Admittedly some number of those (too much effort to determine which) are conversions to plastic or consolidated army boxes. So... yeah. Whatever issues people have with the pace of X-wing releases, it doesn't actually have anything to do with the pace of X-wing releases.
Edited by BuhallinI'll pick up a K-Wing and Punisher next week, and maybe a new Core when it comes out if there are any damage deck changes. Otherwise, I'll have to scale back a bit and leave the Kihrahz, Hound's Tooth and Episode 7 stuff for later. I have enough to play with for now, and should probably save up for some better storage before I start buying more ships.
It's a release schedule that outpaces the meta. We're still adapting to wave 6 and now Raider has dropped with wave 7 next week and we're getting another whole new wave worth of ships in 2 weeks. The fact that other miniatures go faster doesn't make this one slow. We haven't had a stabilized meta since wave 3. And if you play for diversity you really want to experience each meta individually. We're completely skipping 2 in the next couple weeks.
Edited by TasteTheRainbowMy FLGS confirmed Wave 7 comes in next Wed....and my wallet is petitioning for me to resign from all financial responsibilities!

That's the key. However other people feel about the objective pace of releases, I personally always feel like I didn't get enough time to play with the last release. Maybe that's because I do buy and play all factions, with no discernible favorite, I dunno, but honestly, the idea of only playing one faction is alien to me. I didn't do it in Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures (my only other miniatures game), so why would I do it in X-Wing, which is actually cheaper?

Ignoring for a moment that plenty of people think the meta is numbingly stale right now, this may be he case for some, but it is not actually the common complaint surrounding the release cycle. That common complaint is actually about the cost, and I'm curious how a game that releases new product 1/10th as often manages to have such very common complaints concerning the costs associated with that release rate.
Imagine if you played attack wing or 40k it wouldn't be every few months but every few weeks.
Need an X-Wing credit card.
That would be glorious and terrible, they would own me it'll been easier to just direct deposit straight to them at that point

If you take the planned average from August to December instead, it'll be 11* (or more) releases comprising (at least) 13 new ships in 5 months.

That, good sir, is a recipe for financial ruin.
I think I accidentally clicked report on stoneface's post while tryin to hit the "back to x wing" button.
Sorry
Ps. Agreed, financial ruin will happen.
I think the trick is that the ships arrive in big fat chunks. Most minatures games release a squadron or two at a time, so you don't notice the drip-feed as much as you do the big paycheque dumping. ![]()
With that said, I suspect Ep7 will be an anomaly. It certainly messed up the Raider production schedule; I must wonder just how much actual planning FFG was allowed around the schedule.
BRING THE PAIN FFG... BRING IT!

I see nice affordable Chicken tenders and Ramen Noodles being more prevalent at dinner... plus bags of Broccoli Normandy, so I don't die.

I was thinking of doing the same. Just took my old MTG cards out to look up for the first time in over 10 years. Was pleased to find that just 4 of my dual lands (mint, straight out of the packs and into sleeves, never played) are now worth over $1300. Christmas comes early this year!
At least it isn't Wizkids vomiting 3 ships a month.
