It's almost like the design itself was to enable new and ridiculous merchandising opportunities..

Regarding the shuttle => If you were an insane homicidal fundamentalist despot I think the design brief for the shuttle would be "cool and intimidating!!!" not necessarily "Most efficient use of deck space and hanger capacity on my flagship"

I would love to hear the in-lore technical reasons. Not being sarcastic, really I would love to, as I am at a loss for the wings...maybe we will get a technical book on some of the new ships when the movie comes out that will give us more info
