Rule Query: Measuring range & anti-squadron attacks

By stuuk, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all, a few rules queries:

1) When measuring firing arcs and range am I correct to say that the target has to be:

- in range from the firing arc (ie measuring specifically from the arc itself)

- in LOS from the firing arc (yellow dot to yellow dot)

(as an example if a target is in arc from my VSD for a side and a front shot, I must measure the range of the front attack from the front of the ship and the range of the side attack from the side arc of the ship)

2) When firing at fighters and using a concentrate fire command, does the bonus (either +1 die or one reroll) apply to a single attack at a single target fighter or does it apply to more than one attack if there are multiple targets to roll for?

2) A single Attack, as per the FAQ.

1) Yes and Yes. It also has to be in LOS from Closest Point in Arc, to Closest point of arc.

2) A Single attack, a picking a second or further squadron goes through the similar steps as another, separate attack.

It also has to be in LOS from Closest Point in Arc, to Closest point of arc.

Really, so if that's the case what's the purpose of the yellow dot?

Can you point to a section in the rule book / FAQ / etc that says this?

Thanks

I guess I'm misinterpereting the Big Whomping Picture on Page 1 of the FAQ somewhat.

The CR90 Corvette’s front hull zone attempts to attack
the Victory’s rear hull zone. The Rebel player must
measure range to the closest point of the Victory’s rear
hull zone that is within the attacking firing arc. This
measurement passes through the Victory’s left hull
zone, so the CR-90’s front hull zone does not have
line of sight on the Victory’s rear hull zone.

I think the image in the FAQ is more about arc of fire.

The CR90's front arc isn't able to target the victory's rear arc because the rear of the vic isn't in arc.

At least that's how I interpret it...

One other question

in the 'fire lanes' mission, is it permissible to place all three objective tokens in the same place?

I don't see any restriction...

I don't see any restriction...

Sure but only range 2.. about 6" I think.

Feels like there should have been some minimum between the tokens for that mission, ends up a VSD traffic jam aiming at a single spot

If VSDs go second, you're basically always going to be playing Minefields :)

Firing is a three step process:

1. The firing arc is nominated and you can see then what target arcs are in that arc.

2. You test LoS yellow dot to yellow dot, if you cross a hull line LoS is blocked and you pick another target hull zone.

3. Measure Range. Closest to closest. The FaQ adds that if the closest to closest is out of arc then you measure along the arc, and if the closest point on the target is a hull line of the target arc, or you cross a hull line then the LoS of range will be blocked and you can not fire.

The yellow dots are only used for line of sight. : like to see if another ships base or rocks are in the way and will apply the - one die modifier.

Page 1 of the FAQ: "If attack range is measured through a hull zone on the defender that is not the defending hull zone, the attacker does not have line of sight and must choose another target.” The diagram at the top of the page also shows and example of this.

By the rulebook, you would only be making the first two tests, thus the CR90 in the FAQ would be able to shoot.

I remembered my other question..

if i spend an evade token at medium range to force a die re-roll and the new roll is 'accuracy' what happens?

Can the new accuracy icon be spent or not?

Dice and icons (including Accuracy) can only be spent in Step 3, before defense tokens are used (which is Step 4). So no, if your double-hit is rerolled into an accuracy, you can't then block his brace :)
