Do we expect anything Force Awakens related to release for Imperial Assault?
We've been (more than) promised content for Xwing (because of my web show I'm not going to comment on the thing any more than I have.)
I'd expect SOMETHING for all of the FFG Star wars lines. Maybe not something major, but something.
Any thoughts? Figure packs? A boxed expansion? Nothing?
Episode 7 in IA
Not until after the movie. IA is more story driven than XW and they don't wanna spoil the story at all.
Edited by ToqtamishYep I agree, I think that there will be IA and Armada content for EP 7 (and am looking forward to it) but that it will not appear until after the film to avoid spoiling the plot and other elements of the film that have not already been revealed officially.
I think it might take a while for TFA stuff to come to Imperial Assault. They've got so much OT content to blow through first.
But what do I know. They can print TFA stuff, which is the same as printing money, so I can see it going both ways.
In my opinion the game doesn't need it, and it would feel odd since it feels so tight in the OT storytelling they're doing. But we'll see I guess.
Agreed. Since they seem to be loosely following the time line, I would bet that we wont see any EP.7 stuff until after they blew out all the the ROTJ stuff.
My guess is that EP.8 will be out in theatres before we see any EP.7 stuff for IA.
As Ep8 is 2 years away, I suspect we'll probably see Ep7 stuff in IA before then.
Keep in mind, the next expansion after Twin Shadows is Return to Hoth. Which is post ESB opening scenes.
So Core + 2 expansions is half way through the OT movies.
3 or 4 more expansions could see us at the end of RotJ, approximately a year from now. (or end of 2017 at least)
That would give them all of 2018 to release TFA stuff before Ep8...
I'd rather see stuff from Rebels and Rogue One before TFA stuff to be honest. They'd mesh more with what we already have.
Isn't there a rule about time lines and which mission cards you can include? They could easily release an EP 7 story set with missions with different time frames. That said, it will not be on Sept 4th because it will involve more story. Maybe early next year? Q2?
Thanks,
Duncan
X-wing is getting a new core set I don't why IA couldn't get the same.
Even if just a reskin of the initial core set they'll put something out.

More likely an expansion than a new core. Similar to Twin Shadows, Hoth etc.

I hope not, it would get real expensive real fast if they released episode 7 versions of all of their core sets. Tack on Wave 7 of X-wing, Wave 2 of Armada (which may come out just before Kingdom Hearts 3 and Half-Life 3 at this point), the Imperial Assault skirmish packs, and the aforementioned core set 2.0 for X-wing, while we would get alot of content in a rather small amount of times I don't think our wallets would be able to get over that sort of trauma anytime soon.

I don't think so. An expansion would only sell to people who have already bought IA, people who are already star wars fans.
That doesn't capitalize on the hype for episode 7 or target the people who are going to fall in love with star wars for the first time.
A new standalone "core set" would do this, it would be similar to the return to hoth expansion but include a rulebook, dice and a few extra components.
A new star wars film was always going to be an expensive time.
The Hasbro episode 7 toy catalogue has been spoiled online, shows plenty of troops and vehicles that could make up an IA core set or campaign box.
Also because the episode 7 licence was agreed after the IA Hasbro fubar a new core set could be sold directly by ffg, assuming they didn't repeat the same mistake.

New X-wing core set = 2 ships and a few upgrades.
New IA core set = ~20 units (plus elite variants for all the non-uniques), ~6 campaign heroes with class decks, ~3 Imperial/First Order class decks, ~6 agenda card sets, a new tile set and (perhaps most importantly, in terms of demonstrating how unfeasible the idea is) a whole campaign worth of new missions (plus side missions)
Considering how new the game is, I don't expect a nnew Core set, but I think a new boxed expansion is within the relams of possibility.
Edited by Engine25The LCG? At most it'll see a "preview pack" (not even the size of a full Force Pack, I'm thinking one new pod for each side, once again centered on each side's new starfighters - no way they do anything with characters before they've seen the movie), and even that's pretty unlikely. Honestly I think the X-Wing set is it; if FFG were sending out anything else, you'd think it would all come in one shipment, in which case the leaker would have shown all of it.
X-wing core will be a September 4th release but there will also be packs of individual ships for the game. We've not seen everything yet.
We have 3 months between when stuff can be announced and the movie coming out, plus another month until Christmas.
I don't expect IA stuff in September but there is a big window in which to announce and release IA stuff and capitalize on the hype.
There's no reason they couldn't do a 'stand-alone expansion set'. Something between Twin Shadows and the Core in size/scope. Only a handful of missions with less hero choices and maybe only one or two Imperial decks; build around something like a mini-campaign of maybe like 3-4 missions with are standalone pieces/scenarios to get some of the heroes showing up in the Core game as allies rather than hero choices, to double up on using their skirmish cards. Since they're making up heroes and villains, anyway, they wouldn't have to worry about any serious storyline spoiler because it could be something taking place between Episodes 6 and 7, when the Resistance and First Order are still relatively new concepts, allowing them to blend seamlessly into Rebellion/Empire references, where it wouldn't have to spoil anything.
I'm waiting for a new core or something big.
At the end FFG has the Disney license about Star Wars and this is not cheap. Hasbro and LEGO have the merchandising ready to be sold on Friday September 4th, why not FFG? They have xwing new core box ready (images leaked), they have to use the hype of the new film. So, yes sadly to our economies they are going to release something related to Ep VII and Imperial Assault.
Keep in mind it is easy to release things based on images from the new films. However, basing something on a new story and new people is much harder. I doubt that FFG has even seen a full script or much beyond some still and maybe an outline. It would be hard to make an RPG or story based game off that. Look at how much their existing stuff draws from the old EU as well as 6 movies. Now we are talking 1 movie with very little new EU supporting it. I would expect to see more in a year or two, once they have more details of the new era.
(For example look at the pilot names for the new X-wing core, only like 2 of the pilots have names yet.)
Thanks,
Duncan
I agree on the star wars rebels comments. That would mesh very well, as it is set at right about the same time.
Also, my sons would love that.
Episode VII would be nice, and I'm sure will happen, but we need some episode VI first.
I'm not sure about Episode VII in IA, at least not for some time. It's 20 or 30 years after RotJ and IA so far is in ESB. I'd much rather get a Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors vs the whatever the General is and Dark Troopers(phase 1-3). Was that Dark Forces? Been so **** long.
As previously said, Hasbro is going to release all the heroes, villains, troopers of the new films even when we have not seen them officially on trailers. You can take a look to them looking for on internet a little bit. Probably LEGO is going to do the same. Why not FFG? I expect something big, new tiles, new storyline, new troops and heroes. FFG have been working during months with Disney about new products for X-Wing, why not do the same for IA? Is going FFG loose the oportunity to sell a lot of stuff to new players just because there is more incoming stuff for classic storyline? I don't think so.

No need to spoil the story to have an ep VII based campaign, or indeed for FFG to have seen all that much beyond an outline of the plot.
Remember we've done very little thats come into direct contact with the story. Hoth will be the closest we've come really and all the details I've seen suggests its mostly set in the aftermath of Hoth not during the battle itself.
A prologue style campaign could easily be done with only an outline of ep VII and some briefs on the new factions/characters backstories, and an outline of whats happened between films (the opening crawl will likely give much of that last one).
The timing of Hoth and Twin makes me dubious about ep VII stuff as thats not a huge gap, but FFGs release schedule makes far more compelling reasoning than spoilers, as the latter doesn't really make sense with FFG's handling of IA's story so far.
I'm sure we will eventually get there with Ep VII, Spin Off movie content, and Rebels. Still plenty of stuff to look forward to like the rest of the Bounty Hunter zoo crew, a possible Jedi Luke, and Papa Palpatine.
