Tripple phantom squad

By Cyk0, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Sigma squadron is out on the prowl

Three pilots with advanced cloaking devices and sensors, their co-pilot seats filled with Intel officers to feeding them information of the enemy enemy planned actions.

Are there better possible triple phantom lists? The points are tight, but if I have understood the rules right (basically having the Intel officer combined with the sensor, to stop me from going into bad situations, thereby solving the issue that comes with low pilot skill on them) the combination of upgrades should allow them to be operated in a safe manner, while the fact that all three are identical and should make it hard for the enemy to read were the attack is going to come from.

Would this work as I intended or is my lack of experience letting me down?

It looks good on paper, but the problem with low PS phantoms is durability. Essentially until they cloak they are only a Z-95 in defensive stats. With ACD you won't be cloaking until they fire, which is fairly low on the PS level. You'll shoot before most generics, but a lot of pilots will be shooting before them. SPA is probably the better upgrade to take as you'll at least have an evade to help keep them a live a bit longer.

Really an all generic Phantom list isn't the greatest idea. Turrets will just eat them up. Really the best use for a generic phantom is a single one in a list as a blocker or as a flanker. Of course you need other scary stuff in the list so it doesn't get singled out and destroyed quickly.

A Sigma Squadron pilot with Intel agent and Enhanced Scopes is arguably the best blocker in the game.

That looks pretty nasty!

Great thnx for the detailed answer, so something like this http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!e!76:71,40:-1:8:;76:71,40:-1:8:;78:27,44,46:-1:9:

Using the simas to block the ships that might get a shot on echo, while using his maneuverability an firepower to try to wipe the threats against him as quickly as possible?

That is actually very similar (possibly the same?) to Kinetic Operator's Sigma 6 list (which he won a number of tournaments with I believe, but that was a while ago, before the new decloak rules if I remember correctly).

Its extremely difficult to fly, however. If you are new to the game, I would recommend going with something easier, unless you are really good at predicting enemy moves (even with the intel agent---you still have to set your dial in the right direction!).

Another all phantom list is just 4 Sigmas. Its also very tricky and extremely dependent on dice luck since despite having potential to roll 16 - 20 red dice in one round of shooting, you don't always have a token to modify those shots (if you barrel roll or use your token for defence).
