Bellow are major spoilers about the various setting elements from Lessons from the Past, discussing -- in detail -- the final location of the adventure. If you don't know what that is, and you don't want to, then I guess this is probably a good point to stop reading. Sorry!

Short version? I'm looking for experienced GMs to help me brainstorm a way to use the Sanctuary as a permanent player base. The reason I'm asking is because it isn't as simple as "have the characters spruce up the place and camp there". I want it to be a fully functioning stationary base at the beginning that they can fix up and make home, and transition into getting Rebel Alliance help to make it a functioning warship again! It's a big project, and I really do need advice!
First, some background -- at least one of PCs is really interested in base-building. He liked the idea of the Beginner Set's Dawn Temple, something they can find and refurbish and make their own. Now, this particular group of PCs has already committed to eventually joining the Rebellion and becoming AoR characters as well, but only after they've grown as Force users and are no longer afraid of the Empire. I don't want to rely on premade adventures much, but I really like Hidden Depths for finding saber crystals. I was thinking Lessons from the Past would be good as well, but only if we can really make it our own.
That's where I got the idea to try for the long-haul, desperate project to refurbish the Santurary into what it used to be: a mobile temple, aid vessel, and light warship. Given the described damage, that's clearly beyond the scope of just the PCs (though we do have an Artificer in our ranks, and people good with Computers). I was thinking that, for the purely Force and Destiny portion, they could do what repairs they can manage to make the wreck a serviceable stationary base, like they would with the Dawn Temple. I was hoping to be able to upgrade it and such like the bases from Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Empire, but I'd obviously have to house-rule the flavor until a FaD supplement that brings in Force bases is released, at which point it may be too late. From there, they could easily stage secret missions and expeditions from the Deep Core, keeping their activities mostly secret and gaining in power.
Eventually, Luke Skywalker goes questing for Jedi Lore of his own, and happens upon the Sanctuary. He sees that he isn't the last potential Jedi, and we use that as the call to action to join the Rebellion, as players see that there's a precedent for Force users in the Rebellion, realize it's time to use their power to fight the Empire (which we've established they hate), and are probably literally asked to join. We can discuss the how and way of that "Luke Skywalker" bit later, if anyone wants to, but let's hand wave that for now. The point is, Luke likes the idea of Force users and Jedi relic, and the Alliance likes the idea of a new warship, lightly armed as it is. They then help the group on the process of repairing it to a full capital ship. I have a character that really wants to be a Commodore, and he'd love this, plus it would really provide a way for the Arificer to shine. I think it would be a good way to explore mixing FaD and AoR (Jedi temple floating around with the Alliance fleet? Sure!). I also believe it would be a good staging point for anything they want to do. Fleet action? Check. Lead and participate in fighter squadron battles? Get the hanger attachment. Deliver aid to planets in need, or assume protection of star systems? Can do! Load up a company of troops and be generals? Why not!
But this... this is a big project. I have no idea where the PCs would begin to start this task. I don't know what the stats for a Hammerhead would be, especially one that's been refitted for a mostly non-combat role. I honestly don't know where to go with this, other than that my entire group would really, really love it for a number of reasons, and it would be epic.
So.... how would you guys try this? What advice can you give me? What stats can we brainstorm? I really want this to work, but you're my only hope!
