I like running support decks but often find myself short of resources without Steward/Horn of Gondor. Has anyone made Love of Tales work (cheating loop decks aside)? I'm not sure there are enough Song cards out to warrant it - letting neutral ones take up card slots feels unnecessary and if I get Leadership access for e.g. Durin's Song I might as well be running some other kind of acceleration. I'm asking because it would be nice to occasionally have a few resources over to ready Warden of Healing - I have never used that ability, but there are many instances (particularly in multiplayer) when we really needed it. Bifur is one option for more Lore resources, but my girlfriend is currently using him in a tri-sphere deck.
Resource acceleration for Lore/Spirit
Lol
Love of Tales is going to be very unreliable unless you commit to a "song deck" and have lots of card draw, because you aren't going to gain resources until you have two LoT in play. Right now the best options are probably Zigil Miner (ideally with Stargazer), Resourceful if you are in secrecy, or Elrond/Vilya to play big cards and/or Resourceful. Master of Lore would have been nice here if they didn't errata him. Grima is also a good option, especially with Keys of Orthanc.
Some good ideas, thanks. I guess a more apt term in Lore decks would be cost reduction rather than resource gathering. I'd really like to make Master of Lore work, but I can never seem to justify spending 3 resources just for cost reduction long-term. (And he was also more playable before the errata.) Zigil Miner is indeed a good option with Spirit access.
Lol
Do you really have nothing better to do?
Lore I know doesn't have resource acceleration per se, but it does have a lot of cost reducing, probably most powerful of which is Grima. With Keys of Orthanc and Wormtongue, you can get a fair amount of resources in just lore. And Spirit can help with Grima's downside of the threat increase. I should see how well this actually works...
It works amazing. I made a deck with Grima, Glorfindel and Lore Aragorn, the idea being using rangers with traps and OHAUH Gandalf. You can play stuff really cheap and Aragorn takes care of all the threat increasing.
Good harvest and Steward. Nough said.
Never thought of that, might be interesting
Master of Lore still works OK in a mono-lore deck. The first one costs 3, the second costs 2, and if you're lucky enough to draw all three of them, the third one only costs 1 resource. With Lore's draw effects I can reliably get to 2 MoL's and they certainly do their work. It's not as dramatic or efficient as Steward or other generation and cost reduction effects, but if you're going into a 4-player game you just can't bring Grima all the time. I've brought "the healing deck" a few times to local LotR events, and he's a good fit. Also not unique so it's guaranteed I can run him.
Then if you happen to be in a position where you don't need one or more of your MoLs for a turn, you've at least got some additional willpower on the table. 2 willpower if somebody's running Visionary Leadership.
No-one mention elf-stone yet? Sure you need to work for it by exploring a location but you can save yourself 3-4 resources paying for high cost allies. The location you attach it to can easily be explored with Glorfindel (lore or spirit) with asfaloth.
