What would be your Ship you want FFG to release?

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

Basic issue is the system isn't really granular to fit the Avenger anywhere

Nor does it need to be. As long as it's not identical to another ship in that faction, there's a place for it.

Even if it was nothing more than an Interceptor with shields, it would still be worth adding.

And that's assuming they don't do something interesting with the dial of a ship that's technically more agile than the Interceptor. Like S-Loops.

Or give it a Cannon slot and package it with a Tractor Beam.

E-Wings, TIE Defenders, TIE Avengers on Episode VII? I wish it was true...

Me too. Sadly, like you said, it looks like they are trying to nostalgia as hard as they can instead and just giving us repaints of the most common ships in the series instead.

I mean, I'm okay with the First Order TIE just being a repainted TIE Fighter. But the fact that the First Order Special Forces don't even fly some of the cooler TIE models and instead just fly TIE Fighters with some extra crap on them is disappointing. I would have thought you'd AT LEAST put your Special Forces guys in Advanceds.

They should have added something like the TIE Aggressor instead of that ugly Special Ops TIE. :(

I can see they will make a lot of new ships and just ignore the EU. Again.

Why do people want uglies!? They're horrible.

We want them because they are horrible.
So go kit bash and draw up some 1/1/1/1/1 pilot cards.

I've always liked the idea of the uglies. Seems viable that some half-assed pirate group or smugglers camp would maintain a couple uglies. They have scum written all over them.

I'm not opposed to chopping up a few models to make my own, and only haven't so far because I've been holding out in hope's of FFG releasing them. Probably will still make some of my own even if they do.

The reason I would like to see them released? Because I think it would be cool to have them as legal game pieces, and I think they could do some cool stuff with them for customizing.

I thought a neat idea for them would be to release a boxed set with 3 or 4 different uglie variants. Then, give the uglies just a single ship card type to share with a piss poor stat line like;

Red: 1

Grn: 2

Ylw: 2

Blu: 0

Give them a dial something like that of a Y-Wing, only the focus action, and one of each Turret, Cannon, Crew, Salvaged Astromech, and Illicit Upgrade slots. Then give them a Title upgrade card that allows them to equip up to 2 Modifications, but limits the ship to a total of only 5 upgrade cards.

Maybe then have 3 generic pilot cards with PS's of 1, 2, and 4. Plus, a unique pilot named something like "Veteran Pirate" with a PS of 6, and maybe with access to an EPT?

Two green evade is a lot. You can't really put much stress on a spaceship built in your garage. You really can't do anything with it really.

When you think about the fact that pod racers are all mostly made from scrap and are fast, agile vehicles, I don't think it that unlikely for an Ugly to wind up a somewhat agile fighter. Or even maybe somewhat reliable. I know thats atmospheric compaired to space, but then look at all the examples of heavily modified transports and hunters former military ships. How much of the Falcon is still stock? And it's exceptionally fast and agile for a large ship. A lot of those mods on smugglers ships are parts meant for military ships that are custom fabricated to fit standard transports.

I have seen a lot of examples of custom fabrication while working in the logging industry. Parts of old WWII tanks and old logging machines put together that are still operating to this day. Seen lots of other examples of parts meant for certain machines custom fabricated to fit other machines that turn out to work better then the original.

Didn't half of the people in the pod race die?

lol Indeed! But I think that had more to do with the insane characteristics of the track, coupled with the cut throat, blood thirsty antics of some of the racers. Especially one, naughty, little, reverse limbed, alien in particular.

Sorry, you won't find me playing Attack Wing ;)

I'd like to see the new special forces tie with red markings. It looks awesome in that color scheme, plus the bulky wing connectors and extra weapons. It would have a forward and rear firing arc, due to the rotating turrets. It couldn't shoot sideways or else it would risk hurting its own wings!

Assault gunboats are so freaking ugly. I don't understand their popularity.

Could say the same for 90% of TIEs tbh

They're a more compact and "sharper" shuttle, and they're functional.

See, older SW designs were often from people with an industrial-design background, and a lot of more obscure EU stuff wasn't. The Gunboat fits with the former aesthetically even if I'm not sure who designed it, and the Ep7 stuff fits with the latter.

Actually I have always been fond of the Klingon and Romulan ships. Federation, not so much. The Defiant was a step in a better direction.

And in the STAW game it is kinda "Meh". That is why I say play STAW, cause it is pretty good, but you should ignore the Wizzies crap, and make your own cards and ship titles to make the game like STAR TREK.

:D

Also you prolly need to go buy awesome models too, so you can play great looking games.

When I first was asking my local games shop questions about X-Wing, he showed me an example of how the game mechanics worked by playing the demo for STAW that they had set up. I was already going to buy some X-Wing Miniatures anyways because I thought they looked kick a**, but then after playing the STAW demo I said, "If X-Wing's mechanics are anything similar to this, I will definitely be back for more."

Honestly, the only thing that's kept me from buying into STAW as well, is the lackluster models.

I know Brah. Yeah the little ships are fine and most of them are accidentally in relative scale in their respective fleets.

Be that as it may, I can not bring myself to put a tiny Klingon K'vort BOP next to a B'rel BOP (which is the exact same model, except for Chang's BOP) and be happy about my table.

I think Armada rules would be better. Also it would be nice if they fit the scale or at lease have some sort of feel good scale for miniatures. It is kind of funny but IMHO and I keep saying this Star Wars Armada is a better Star Trek game than a Star Wars game. The theme supported by the game play mechanics really prove that (shields up, Brace for Impact!) You hear that more in Star Trek than Star Wars as long as you hold off on the Enterprise and JJ series there is enough interest to make a good game.

As for the flight path format well it is better than hero clicks but the whole Barrel rolling Galaxy Class star ship is a little out of character. A barrel rolling Defiant is more likely.

Like I said Bro, you got to remove the Wizzies junk. I do have a little set of cards and stuff that I am working on to fix the game.

Now STAR BLAZERS... whew, yeah that should be an ARMADA type game.

In order: Cloakshape, Skipray, X-G1 Gunboat, Slave II. Epic scale, DP-20 Gunship.

Okay I know not Star wars but they need a good table top game and have yet to have one. Armada would be perfect for this franchise.

star fleet battles....

Let's hope that maybe one day FFG can get the licensing for Star Trek as well. (I think my butt just farted some words! Nope, wait... just my wallet telling me to shut up.)

They should have added something like the TIE Aggressor instead of that ugly Special Ops TIE. :(

I don't think they added the Special Ops TIE, just a normal First Order TIE. It doesn't look like it has any of the extra attachments the SO TIE does.

I want the missing ships from the OT, with rules for in-atmosphere and air-to-ground combat. That way I can have:

T-47 Snowspeeders

T-16 Skyhoppers

Bespin Cloud Cars

AT-ATs

AT-STs

Ground emplacements

I'd also like a one-off Battlestar Galactica expansion set. There are few enough ships they could do one BSG wave and be done.

I'm talking about the film.

Yes, the "leaked" stuff shows normal (repainted) TIE Fighters.

Oh, I see. Not the Aggressor though. Special Forces guys should warrant a ship with shields. Which the Aggressor isn't.

TIE Hunters would have been a good choice, since they were originally Storm Commando only and Storm Commandos were Stormtrooper Special Forces.

As an epic ship i would much prefer the Braha Tok (Dornean) Gunship... Kinda ugly but cool...

Anti-fighter gunship and it is actually a part of the original trilogy (seen in ROTJ at Endor)..

Heres a dude who has made a very nice model:
