September 4th

By Lovecrafts, in X-Wing

The Target thing is coming from the fact that there is an LRT scan gun in the background of one of the pictures. This is a popular item used for Target's inventory purposes.

That being said, Other companies like Lowe's, and distributors use those guns to keep track of inventory easier as well.

My theory on this is as follows. The leak did not come from a store, but from a distributor. I have a feeling that the new box set has been shipped to distributors this early so that they can get the product everywhere xwing is sold in time for a "on the shelves" date on September 4th. Having worked under a NDP (non-disclosure pact) before, his wording was in such a way that showed there were other products being produced that led to the delay of announced waves, and the new product was on the boat getting ready for delivery for a release date on force day. He did not make mention of how this product would "make waves" in the xwing game, which means the new core set is a stand alone game that is compatable with old set, but will include ships and upgrade cards that will make the age difference relivent.

TL:DR The core set will be on shelves (my theory) on september 4th at all places Xwing is sold. The leak is not specific to Target. Target might carry this product as it is a stand alone game; something they have no qualms in carrying.

The thing is, I've looked in dozens of target stores, in 3 different states, and never found any x-wing products.

The in flight report had the CEO of FFG saying there were things he couldn't talk about, but that we'd be happy about it. And he said something similar to "the Hasbro midnight release stuff, just... You won't be upset." He said that in a way that all but said Episode 7 X-Wing stuff at the Midnight release stuff on 4 September.

And then we see pictures of X-Wing stuff, ready to be on shelves. This seems to be a very easy couple of dots to connect. Let's just assume that if your Target is doing a midnight release thing, you can get the new ships there. And hopefully the next day at a more reasonable hour as well.

Wow. Wow. That is all.

Target carried X-Wing for a limited period of time, and only the starter. I actually got my first core set there a few days before my FLGS had it, and this was at the launch in 2012. After Christmas that year, Target had them on discount, and later on they discontinued it. I remember getting a set or two on clearance for about $11. They never carried any expansions. So there has been nothing in Target since sometime in 2013.

But... in the subreddit which discusses the ... a poster (not the same who posted pics, I think) said that they were already in stock at a "big retailer" he worked for. He would not name the store, but said this:

"I don't want to say the specific store, but it is a big retailer. We used to carry the original core set but haven't for a while."

I read Target.

But core set that is being released in time for holiday merchandising that is backed by The Mouse, Lucas, and a stable (and willing to dish money out) fan base is not something that even target would say no too. even if its only for the holiday season, its a guaranteed seller

Yeah, when I first started playing I kept hearing how you could get these amazing deals on starter sets at Target. Could never find a single one.

Makes me hesitant to wait up and fight crowds at the local Target for this.

I mean... assuming FFG has any new products to be released then. ;)

Barnes & Noble will probably have any new release on 9/4 as well, they still stock it.

However. B&N does not seem to be participating in the 12:01am sales event (which is a shame, because I would totally hit them that night just for "Star Wars: Aftermath"). Target, Walmart and ToysRUs are all confirmed to be open and selling Ep VII toys/stuff at 12:01am.

These threads just keep getting better

I find it fascinating how things have escalated to this level of conspiracy like mind-sets. Hmph!

Shame that Canada lost most (if not all) of it's Target stores. But on that note: When do you think we'll start seeing X-Wing products in Disney Stores?

I also checked target when I first began playing as I half expected them to carry X-Wing. They have an entire aisle in many stores devoted to Star Wars toys, and yes they also have a board game-type section. Disney probably is adjusting their marketing and sales to make it more widely available commercially. Sucks for the FLGS's a bit, but Disney knows how to profit.

Target did in fact carry the X-Wing core/starter sets shortly after the launch of the game, hitting their shelves before Christmas that year. Target carried the core/starter only and you still needed to go to your FLGS for the expansions.

As X-Wing was a very new game then a lot of product sat on shelves for awhile until Target slashed their prices all the way down to $8 for a lucky few players. I never expected Target to carry the game again but with the Episode 7 product launch nearly upon us plus the confirmation of a new starter it makes too much sense.

With this game currently in the place it is and the impending mass release of a new starter likely in Target stores nationwide we are quite possibly looking at a significant influx of new players to this game. Cue grumbling and complaining from the usual suspects but this has major sales potential and very well could create supply issues if we see enough new blood in the game.

.... and to think, all of our Target stores closed down.

i think the funniest thing would be that everything happend so far was on purpose just missleading the whole community to come up with something completely different on september 4th

Walmart has announced they too, will be taking part in Force Friday (sept 4) with star wars merch. Perhaps we can find our precious T-70 starter boxes there in Canada?

Ya if you check out team covenants Twitter and scroll back to the gencon feed you see they say "Products on the water from force awakens". Now ffg has a few different Star Wars games they publish but being that xwing is the most popular, my guess is he was talking about xwing products for force awakens being "on the water". So I too believe things will be available for that midnight lineup, and we need not wait till December.

I read Target.

I remember first seeing the Core set in a Target as late as early 2014. I had no idea what X-wing was, and didn't buy it. Went home and researched it, which started the obsession. I forget how much they were selling it for.

I'm actually, and fairly consistently, amazed at how many conspiracy theorists are here thinking there's some big SOOPER SEKRIT ulterior motive to all of this. It's a new release of fancy toy plastic space ships. FFG all but said X-Wing will be there on September 4, by dancing around the words very carefully in the InFlight address. It's one of the biggest movie events in years. There's going to be toys. There's going to be hype.

That said, I can't wait to get my hands on said toy plastic space ships and make PEW PEW with them.

The only 'conspiracy' is that it seems only major retailers are launching this product on september 4, leaving LGS out.

My Target had X-Wing up until X-mas last year with the Core and 1st wave ships. After reading this thread, I asked the Stocking Manager for any info this morning while shopping. He said "I'm pretty sure there is some FFG boxes but we can't see what's in them until September 3rd or we'll get fired."

Sounds promising, yeah?

Except we don't know for sure either way. Until Disney gets off their asses and lets the companies announce their products it's all conjecture.

true, but as a consumer I'll go where the product is. If my LGS had better info and could confirm they would have it, i'll gladly give them the business. if not....I goto walmart. *cringe*

Right as would many of us. But lgs would be under same gag order as everyone else is.

So, just wink when you tell me you can't say anything. Do I have to do all the thinking around here!? sheesh. :P
