My last "Fun with Bombers" list before Wave VII, I swear

By Comradebot, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Unless I come up with something super awesome, of course.

My last couple of Bomber lists focused on being a **** with torpedoes/missiles. Now let's see if we can get them actually bombing some stuff, yeah? I'm excited.

"Deathrain"

Enhanced Scopes

Conner Net

Cluster Mines

Scimitar Squadron Pilot

Proximity Mines

I can't lie: this list makes me giddy to look at. My ONLY qualm is the Cluster Mines, but my local meta has historically been VERY big-base heavy, so they very well might come in handy to help chew through those. But if things change, could always double up on Nets or drop him to Proximity Mines for a 1pt bid.

Still, this is the Bomber squad I've kind of fantasized about since the Punisher was announced. One Heavy Bomber escorted by a trio of regular Bombers, painting the play area with delightful, copious amounts of explosives. Raw HP to help stand up to big-base ships, undodgeable explosives dropped at the start of the activation phase to help deal with annoying high agility ships.

If you own enough proximity mines to have 6 on the table at a time I salute you.

I dig it. The only thing I don't love is Advanced Scopes. PS6 already moves in front of almost all of the squirrely heavy hitters that are out there right now. Used the Advanced Scopes points to convert Cluster Mines into Proton Bombs. That way you can hammer stuff that moves before you with Connor Net and the stuff that moves after you with Proton Bombs.

The point of moving first with death rain that I see, is to avoid low PS blockers that will denie you the action to drop mines

Sadly, I don't yet. I have four Proximity Mine tokens and cards, but I'm looking for third party tokens. Shouldn't be too difficult. Would like a ruling on that officially from FFG. But hey, worst case scenario I have to borrow two from a friend, or get a pair individually. Because having six on the board at once would be hilarious (if highly unlikely and certainly a sign I should just stop playing this game).

It's not a terrible idea. Might give both it and my original design a go on Vassal when I get a chance.

However, I do disagree with the "moving ahead of most heavy hitters" bit. There's still a mess of Chewies, Leebos, Oicunns/Patrol Leaders, and IG-88s running around that will/might move first. Especially those IGs: netting them should be brutal, and I'd hate to lose it. If multi-ship builds start gaining traction, though, Proton Bombs will definitely be the way to go.

Also this. Enhanced Scopes mean, (almost) no matter what, Deathrain is raining death on someone with mines.

Good points on Advanced Sensors and blockers. I guess I consider Chewie way less of a threat than the higher PS Falcons that can reliably arc dodge. You also have to consider that if you make IGs take Initiative to avoid getting Netted, that's worth some points on its own.
