Favorite specialization?

By Kymrel, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

With all the different carriers and specializations out in all 3 systems players have a lot of choice. After compiling a list for personal use of what is available I thought I might post it here with a question.

The question is simple.

If you were about to start playing in a long-term campaign with a GM that allows you to pick and mix from all three settings, what specialization would you choose for your character? (Assume the other characters are not an issue, if you, like me, tend to pick a character that will fit into the group.)

And the bonus question: What specialization would you want the character to select next?

Here are all the careers and specializations for you to browse through:

That is tough for me as I love a great mix of characters and in my last game I allowed a mix of specs from all settings and the one I like from that group I might try: Started as Artisan then moved to Smuggler: Pilot and then Gunslinger. I've always had a soft spot for the Makashi style, so I might try a Makashi Duelist then Gadgeteer, just to see :)

I love the concept of the outlaw tech. But I'm waiting for the technician book before I decide to try it out.

For EotE I like the Entrepreneur (I played a Hutt Entrepreneur for a while) and the Scholar most of all and have a soft spot for the Enforcer and the Mechanic.

For AoR I would love to play a Hot Shot (I think you forgot to take the new Ace careers into account) or an Analyst.

(I think you forgot to take the new Ace careers into account)

Right you are!

Original post edited to include those.

Next one mystic: seer.

Mostly I've yet to muck around with force stuff and have yet to do so, so going full space wizard.

Scoundrel, Scout, Gadgeteer

Scoundrel/Gunslinger/Pilot for Lovable Rogue. ^_^

Seer/Sage/ND for Sith Empress Regnant of the MF'ing Galaxy.

Big Game Hunter! :D

After reading the F&D book last night I have an image of a Sentinel with the Shadow specialization that very early on branches into Gunslinger and goes down both trees at a similar pace. Very limited force-powers and no lightsaber would make this a nice character to play in a F&D setting with other force-sensitives. Too bad I'm always the GM when my group plays Star Wars <_<

It's impossible for me to pick a favorite... I have favorites for each archetype, but it's still more about fitting the role than picking a specialization. One thing I do love about this game is that the broad variety of specializations (that are very well balanced) almost guarantees a specialization that will dovetail nicely into a character concept.

Yeah, I think I’d want to choose my next character concept first, then choose the Career and Specialization(s) to go along with that.

I think a Hutt Jedi could be wicked cool, making sure that Force-jump is one of the first powers he picks up. Make him a relative of Beldorian, maybe. But Beldorian is/was weak, and let himself become complacent.

A Proxy-type droid that has been retrofitted to be the host for a Shard (as an Iron Knight) could also be cool. All of the personalities that he had been programmed to simulate would be wiped, but new personalities could be added. And I would think that would also include simulating their attributes, talents, and skills, too. Obviously, with more data, the more accurate your simulation could be. And of course, there aren’t any back doors that have been left hidden, so that a previous owner could come back and take over.

A Toydarian could also be cool as a force-user.

But then I’m currently playing in an F&D campaign (with a Clawdite Mystic/Seer), and so I know that probably has a heavy influence on a lot of the character concepts that I might be thinking of.

EDIT — I would also add that doing the voices is a big part of the roleplaying for me, which is part of why I really enjoyed playing a Wookiee in my first FFG SWRPG group. Of course, Charlie was always much better at actually doing the sound effects than I was, but I was able to make it work from the level of projecting raw emotion.

Commodore and then Scientist though the second will probably change once the Engineer book is out and might change once the Tech book is out.

Charmer, then Gambler. You might be running a Mining Colony one day, you never know.

I don't have force and destiny yet, so I can't say whether one of the Jedi specializations would top it or not, but out of all the others, I would have to say Gadgeteer. I don't like the far right column, but basically everything else is pure gold. My second would probably be the marauder.

Edit: I misread the question...I would start as an Assassin then move on to Gadgeteer once I got dedication and the other talents I wanted.

Well as of now playing a Doctor/Entrepreneur. But next looking at either Heavy or Mechanic.

Hard to pick just one from so many good ones. But for me it would be any if those from the Commander career in AoR. Squadron Leader, probably. Diplomat or Mechanic could be good as a follow up instead, though.

For a 1 shot a Wookiee Healer Medic, then try not to get too much conflict!

With the right group and long term campaign I would really love to play a Pathfinder/Hunter/Beastrider/Shien

Use Enhance and Foresee.

Marshal then follow with FS Exile or maybe Enforcer, strong willpower with vigilance and coercion (bad cop dirty harry style)

I'm loving Gadgeteer. I'm currently a Slicer/Gadgeteer, though I'm not impressed with Slicer. I'll be picking up Outlaw Tech as my final specialization and will have more Jury Rigged and Tinkerer slots than I'll know what to do with.

For future characters, I can't wait to experiment with Heavy and Scientist (not necessarily on the same character, those are just 2 additional specializations that interest me). I think a Heavy-Gadgeteer-Other would make an exceptionally strong combat character, considering you could get even the bulkiest of weapons down to 1 Encumbrance and almost no Cumbersome rating. I kind of want to make that character as a Chadra-Fan...

Gambler

Been liking Assassin, even though I think having Targeted Blow and Anatomy Lessons in the same tree is kinda redundant.

I really like Marshal/Gunslinger, the lawman with the Improved Quick Draw hands

Warrior/Starfighter Ace+Ataru Striker

That is why even since I am always the GM I always have a NPC that I created exactly like pcs as in how many xp and theme of the group. Then they go up as pcs do and I roleplay him or her fully
