Starting purchase plan, need help with combos and lists

By D503, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

HI all!

I am looking to downgrade how much stuff I own but keep wargaming, so I am switching from 40k to Armada. I will be collecting both factions, and finding people to play against with my own toys. I want to make sure that the rebel/imperial collection is balanced at every stage of purchasing, and interesting enough to provide varied gaming as the collection grows.

1st time:

Starter x1

GSD x1

AFII x1

Rebel squadrons x1

Imperial squadrons x1

2nd time:

Rebel squadrons x1

Imperial squadrons x1

CR90 x1

Neb-B x1

VSD x1

3rd time:

ISD x1

MC80 x1

MC30x1

Imperial corvette x2 (I forgot the name)

That awesome pack of bounty hunters

Rebel squadrons x1

Imperial squadrons x1

Is this a good, balanced way to grow the collection? What are the 'core' combinations that I will have? Do you have any suggestions about mixing up the order of purchase etc?

I have a limited amount of purchasing power for my hobby budget, but can usually throw around about 150 quid every 3 months or so. This will likely take me almost a year to get collected, and so be finished around the time that wave 3 hits the shops.

Thanks!

Looks good mostly. 2x GSDs, AFmk2s are both pretty popular. You may or may not also want a bagillion(ish) CR90s/Raider/MC30s. Or, like me, a bagillion MC80s, cause you know, Mon Cal for life.

I think you're pretty close to spot on. I'd rush for the AFmkII and GSD first. From there one fighter pack per faction is a good start. I wouldn't commit to a 2nd fighter pack in a hurry, some people like them some don't. I would make a 2nd dice pack a priority as you will be short on dice to roll completely (blame FFG for that oversight).

Past that, I'd try to get one of each expansion in wave one first before you duplicate anything. You may also enjoy a 2nd movement tool that you only assemble to a speed 2 setup. That makes those tight spots easier to navigate.
