Wave 7 dimensions question

By ramy, in X-Wing

What is the ship that is the tallest and how tall is it? I am going to do some custom battlefoam and need to know how thick it should be.

Tallest?
Does that include the epic ships?

The real question, I think, should be "which ship's smallest dimension is the biggest?"

Because you can always just, ya know...rotate the ship...

I asked this question and was told that the YV-666 would fit in 2" foam. Everything else is shorter.

Thanks. I am going to put wave 6 & 7 in the same foam and I thought the YV-666 was the tallest of them all but I don't have one yet.

The YV is definitely the tallest. I don't know if 2 inches will cut it, though. The thing is something like this tall:
|----------------------------------------------------------------|*

*not an exact measurement

I believe the Lambda is still the only non-epic ship that doesn't fit in 2 inch foam.

On it's side, it goes in 2-inch foam.

For mine - I left it in the plastic shell that is was packaged in and cut the foam to fit around that shape. Trimmed the excess plastic to make a lip and just dropped it in.

What I was wanting to know was if you take the ship off the stand and set it in the foam like the cut out is on battlefoam's website, how deep does it need to be?

Like I said, I asked someone to measure, and he told me it would fit in 2" foam. I don't know if you can confirm this from someone else, but it's what I was told when I asked the same questions. My foam will be on its way shortly.

I told you this. It is very close.

If you orient it "level" as it would be in game, measuring the HT and its glued on peg, it is just over 2 inches tall.

However, the tallest part of the ship is the front, and the ship is also front heavy. So if you just set it on the table, the taller front end tips down (like a teeter-totter). In this orientation (as it should sit naturally), the highest part of the ship was just under 2 inches above the table when measured. Does that make sense?

I would assume that battlefoam's cutouts have enough space around the model that it will tip forward like it does setting on the table, but having not seen it, I can't say.

And I'll just throw out there that I think most of battlefoam's cutouts are pretty horribly space inefficient and a lot of times you are better off orienting the ships a different way and just putting them in a square cutout rather than their specific outline.

Ok, thanks. That's what I needed to know.

I have a related question. Anyone know the height of the imp raider? I know the rebel corvette fits in 3".

2.75". Straight from FFG to me in an email.

Jacob

Awesome, thank you!

How big round are the movement dials? I am not home and don't have one in front of me. Thanks.

A little less than 2", a little more than 1.75".

Thanks
