Heh. So, the Raider is worse because of the nearly unlimited resources of computer modeling, and the Corvette is better because Tony Stark made it in a cave from a box of scraps.I do want to point something out.
Comparing the Raider to The CR-90 is completely unfair. One was made with scrap bits of plastic and based off of concept art in the 70s, having to add as many details as possible to give it scale and make it look like a starship- providing a basis for any future models and depictions of it in the future, such as FFG's CR-90.
The other was an entirely self-fueled venture.
Gotta' give 'em a little slack there on account'a that.
No, no. That's not what I mean.
The CR-90 of yore was better due to necessity. They had to do everything they could to make it look like a cluddy but functional ship. Funny enough, the opposite is true for Star Trek. Designs become less and less clunky and it's easier to do as film making tech gets better and better.
Star Wars vessels are designed to be functional and nothing more. They're bulky, they're ugly in a flattering way. So, designing it out of scratch, and out of misc. objects, from nasal spray caps to repurposed tampon shafts, is frankly one of the best ways to go about adding all of those "Detail" bits.
So in a way, yeah. Designing a ship for Star Wars and not building a model of it will always have a slightly lesser effect than drawing it out on paper, then trying to build what you drew. Compared the X-Wing to the E-Wing, the difference is clear.
Panel lines on new ships: Lines, lines errywhere.

If someone had first built a prototype ewing they'd have said "Oi, how does the canopy open with this stupid gun in the way. Move it or lose. Worst ship ever."
I dunno', I always imagine the cockpit slid forward along the fuselage. But, when it comes down to Ejection, yeah you got a point.
However, i would argue that in several depictions, the Y-Wing has had a similar issue.

It's useless to argue with E-Wing haters. You can explain away as much as you want, they will always find something wrong with it because it's not the X-Wing, and that's the main reason the X-Wing was never supplanted in the first place. Entirely out-of-lore reasons.
Talk about lots of lines that go nowhere. ..
Clearly.
Well, then... That explains everything...
Sarcasm.
Explain.
...only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Um, isn't that statement an absolute?
Absolutely not.
if you insist...
"R7 Astromech", an astromech card which came with the E-Wing Pack Expansion, illustrates a droid being placed into the E-Wing. The droid is located in a compartment aft of the weapon overlooking the cockpit.
I think the pilot enters and leaves the craft from below or behind the cockpit.

Aw, come on. It's not that at all. I don't care for the X-Wing and it doesn't have to be the ultimate fighter just because I saw it first when I was 9 years old, yada yada.
Nothing in Star Wars has to make sense with real physics or engineering, because it's a fantasy tale about fantasy starships. But it is definitely a plus if it does, because it helps with the suspension of disbelief and even fuel the interest of the fans about the background of the ships and stations and planets. It deepens the lore.
But the E-Wing is just a lazy bad design.
- It is not a bold design. It terrible derivative from the X-Wing, almost fearing that people would reject it if it is not similar enough to it. It doesn't innovate. Looks like someone loaded up the X-Wing model in 3D-Studio and deleted or rearranged or scaled up or down some components here and there. AND I know about the Z-95. But doing it once doesn't justify doing it twice.
- It is a Mary Sue fighter. The maneuverability of the X-Wing, while being as fast as the A-Wing, and as advanced and with the firepower of the B-Wing, while not having the downsides of any if these fighters. It's pure power creep. It's so good at everything that is becomes uninterestingly over the top.
- The design makes no sense. In a universe with a technological plateau like Star Wars is, it makes no sense that fewer engines than the X-Wing make the ship faster than it, and fewer weapon systems gives it a similar firepower. Also, all the things with respect to the cannon placement over the cockpit and the little sense that the astromech is trapped inside the canopy, when an astromech main point is that it can move to or reach places for repairs.
It's not a jealous reaction based on nostalgia for the old ships. I like most of the new ships that have come afterwards. Yes, even the K-Wing, that I saw first time here when announced by FFG for this game, finally grew on me (and their exceptional modelling artists have a big role in that).
But the E-Wing? Not even FFG model wizards could save it.
where's the part of the glass that goes over the Droid to connect the gun on the front glass to the rest of the gun behind the Droid? That picture makes no sense lol.As far as the E-wing is concerned, see here:I dunno', I always imagine the cockpit slid forward along the fuselage. The droid in an E-wing is covered by hull plating, which retracts to allow access.
The e-wing would be a decent design if that third gun was under the nose or something. Like the k-wing and it's oddly placed third engine, sling it under and it makes a world of difference. The placement on the upper part of the structure may have been an asthetic choice, but not a good engineering one.
I think the more 'blank'-wing fighters the better, let's bring in the T and V too! There's more letters, gotta catch em all!

A rusty hull is a compromised hull. I wouldn't take that out of the atmosphere.
