Force Enchance question.

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have a new player potentially starting my game soon, a Gank Force User.

At creation, he has spent most of his XP in Talents and Force abilities, (He only increased one stat by a single point... I am checking is this was intentional).

However, he has also bought Force Enchance, the Control Upgrade to allow his to use it with Resilience, the one after that to use it with Brawl, and the one after that that lets him increase a single stat by Committing a Dice.

Can he actually USE this currently?

With a FR of 1, he only gets to roll 1 die to generate pips to activate the power.

Would he then be able to activate this control upgrade at all?

Or does he activate the base power one one turn, and then commit the die the following turn to boost his chosen stat?

Or does this combo require a FR2?

Cheers

No need to roll for the control upgrade to commit his Force die to increase his brawn. All he has to do is spend the action to commit it. Of course, that means he won't be able to utilize his Force die for any other powers or talents until he no longer commits his Force die.

I thought so... thanks very much for the confirmation!

Were I you, I'd strongly suggest that he allocate more of his XP to stats than he has currently.... The long-term benefits greatly outweigh the drawbacks of starting out with few/any Force Powers or talents.

He is getting an additionl 180xp to bring him to the groups level.

I think he has intentionally hamstrung himself so he isnt too powerful. But he has never played the game... so we are working on it.

From what I can see, he has built an already powerful character

I would encourage him to go back and spend his experience on his 6 stats; he probably thinks he can spend the extra 180 on those, when he actually can't. As stated, having as many higher than average starting stats works wonders, and if your more experienced players did so, he'll have a really hard time ever catching up.

I have pointed this out, but I think he might have done it intentionally to NOT create a super powerful character.

If Ive worked it out right, hes already outputting a minimum of 8-9 points of damage AT CREATION. Before hes spent the 180 points.

Is combat the only thing he's going to be doing? Because there are plenty of other things he can do. If the two of you are worried about being overpowered, consider spending XP in other areas -- medicine, piloting, gunnery, mechanics -- even if other players have those skills already, it doesn't hurt to have a backup. And as others have pointed out, his attempts to be a Force wielder will be shot to pieces with a low Willpower and a low Discipline.

I'm not sure yet on his intention.

His backstory summarised, it that he actually ashamed of his force powers, and has not used them in over a decade.

I dont fully understand the Force mechanics yet, which is why im asking the community.

I would be careful in allowing your player to spend his 'additional' 180 XP on stats, as under rules for 'Knight' level character generation in FAD it states that only initial XP given from species can be used for increasing stats, the additional XP is for Talents, Skills and so forth under normal XP expenditure rules.

But; your game, your rules.

I didnt give him 180 to spend on stats.

He built a character using the basic rules.

He will get 180 to spent on normal advancement to bring him to the groups level.
