Had enough? Call the Fellowship of the Wing!

By Xander Krane, in X-Wing

Have you had enough of trolls?

Enjoy:

Any thoughts on a Fellowship of the Ring themed list for X-Wing?

Points don't matter so much.

It's just a bit of fun to see what nine ships and/or upgrades you'd use to represent them?

What's your Fellowship of the Wing?

Done! Another challenge?

Done! Another challenge?

You da man!

that is a great list and you jumped right into the spirit of the challenge.

NERDS!

Like Xander, Geek. There is a difference. :P.

Have been for 38 years now (since I learned to read) and don't plan to change.

Harder would be to X-Wingify Dune. But first let others come up with their take on this challenge, I'm curious, there's so much choice!

I think I'd make Gimli some sort of B Wing. (slow dwarf and all that)

Indeed there is. Nerds wear pocket protectors.

A geek is a nerd with social skills...

Nice job on the list, agree that Gimli could be a B.Wing, but autoblaster is a nice touch ...

How about an Imperial version ...

Oh .... I was thinking Buffalo Wings nevermind.

THEY'RE TAKING THE HOBBITS TO CORUSCANT!

THEY'RE TAKING THE HOBBITS TO CORUSCANT!

So, the One Ring is actually just ...

The Schwarz?

Merry: Tala Squadron Pilot (by RotK, I'd make him a Green with Opportunist)

Pippin: Tala once again (by RotK, Green with Predator)

Frodo: Prototype (by RotK, Green with VI)

Sam: Tala (by RotK, Rookie X-Wing)

Legolas: Corran Horn with VI and FCS (cus seriously . . . Legolas OP!)

Gimli: Warthog

Boromir: Blue Squadron Pilot (well, perhaps a named B-Wing with DtF ;P)

Aragorn: Wedge Antilles with R2-D2, Predator, Engine

Gandalf the Grey: Kyle Katarn with TLT, RecSpec, Moldy Crow

Gandalf the White: Lando with Nien Nunb

Let's mix this up with other factions! Here comes the Imperial Fellowship.

Frodo: "Echo" (Advanced Cloaking Device, Push the Limit) - Very hard to catch him and he pushed himself to his limits

Sam: Black Squadron Pilot (Wingman) - Always by Frodo's side

Pippin: Black Squadron Pilot (Decoy) - Remember the Palantir?

Merry: Black Squadron Pilot (Daredevil) - For riding with the Riders of Rohan

Boromir: "Fel's Wrath" (Royal Guard TIE, Hull Upgrade, Shield Upgrade) - You just can't take him down, and once you do, he's still not done fighting!

Legolas: Col. Vessery (Marksmanship, Stealth Device) - An excellent marksman and quite maneuverable as well.

Gimli: Rexlar Brath ("Mangler" Cannon, Hull Upgrade) - A bit redundant, but I feel it matches Gimli's "take-'em-down" attitude

Aragorn: Darth Vader (TIE Advanced/x1, Advanced Targeting Computer, Veteran Instincts, Engine Upgrade) - He's basically the best of the best

Gandalf: Colonel Jendon (ST-321, Sensor Jammer, Weapons Engineer) - I know crew is a bit of a stretch, but it helps Gandalf perform the supporting roll he had in the books. Note the total lack of a Cannon upgrade here.

Also you'll note that Gimli and Legolas are the same ship type because despite all their differences, they had much more in common than either of them realized.

Indeed Budgernaut; I never stated a faction.

Be interesting to see a Scum and Villainy Fellowship of the Wing

Frodo: Sam, I'm Glad You're With Me

IG-88D + Determination + Accuracy Corrector + Ion Cannon + Flechette Cannon + Cloaking Device + IG-2000 + Ion Projector

Sam: Don't You Leave Him, Samwise Gamgee

IG-88A + Adrenaline Rush + Sensor Jammer + Mangler Cannon + IG-2000 + Counter-Measures

Merry: I'm the Tall One

Binayre Pirate + Concussion Missiles + Glitterstim + Engine Upgrade

Pippin: It Comes In Pints?

Binayre Pirate + Assault Missiles + Feedback Array

Boromir: One Does Not Simply Walk Into Mordor

Guri + Draw Their Fire + Virago + Engine Upgrade + Dead Man's Switch + Enhanced Scopes

Legolas: I'm on Seventeen!

Palob Godalhi + Moldy Crow + Recon Specialist + Twin Laser Turret

Gimli: And My Axe

Syndicate Thug + Autoblaster Turret + BTL-A4 + R4-B11 + Plasma Torpedoes + Engine Upgrade

Aragorn: Stand, Men of the West!

Serissu + Squad Leader + Heavy Scyk + Shield Upgrade + Heavy Laser Cannon

Gandalf: Death Is Just Another Path

Latts Razzi + Mangler Cannon + Homing Missiles + Bossk + Weapons Engineer + K4 Security Droid + Hot Shot Blaster + Hound's Tooth + Tactical Jammer

Frodo and Sam just go together; while Sting finds orcish weak spots and the One Ring shrouds Frodo in times of need, Sam stands stalwart.
Pippin and Merry dish out the damage they can, providing comic relief.
Boromir charges in boldly but is built to die in glory.
Legolas uses his sharp eyes to guide his swift arrows.
Gimli drives in slow (but can be tossed!) and cleaves through anything that stands in his way.
Aragorn can hit hard but inspires his troops as a strong leader.
Gandalf supports the team, obstructs the opponent, and even comes back from certain death!

Who would you even select for a Dune-themed list? Leto, Jessica, Paul, Duncan? Stilgar, Chani? The Baron, Feyd, Beast Rabban? The Emperor, Irulan?

Nicely done. One small super geek mistake though, Gandalf bore Narya, Galadriel bore Nenya.

Ah, of course. I wasn't quite sure but couldn't be troubled to look it up thinking nobody'd notice. I know Vilya was carried by Elrond.

I keep my knowledge up to date with the LCG :P

Aragorn: Stand, Men of the West!

Serissu + Squad Leader + Heavy Scyk + Shield Upgrade + Heavy Laser Cannon

I was trying to find an Aragorn with an illicit slot. He practically begs for a Glitterstim, not all that glitters is gold after all. :P.

Who would you even select for a Dune-themed list? Leto, Jessica, Paul, Duncan? Stilgar, Chani? The Baron, Feyd, Beast Rabban? The Emperor, Irulan?[/q]

Paul
Jessica
Duncan Idaho
Gurney Halleck
Dr Yueh
Leto
Leto II (Fel's Wrath? :P)
Ghanima
Chani
Alia
Stilgar
The Baron
The Beast Rabban
Feyd Rautha
Some generic Fremen and Sardaukar, A Tleilaxu
Irulan
Count Fenring
Thufir Hawat
Piter de Vries
Take your pick, there's enough characters for two lists :D
But what to do for worms?

What to do for worms? Asteroids, of course!

Just to counter those rebel fellowships, here's the Imperial Wing Wraiths:

Er-Murazor, The Witch King of Angmar

First of the Nine, leader of the Ring-Wraiths, it was said that no mortal man could slay him. His great strength allowed him to dual wield immense weapons in combat, making him the true terror of any battlefield he entered.

Soontir Fel (27)

-Push the Limit (3)

-Autothrusters (2)

-Stealth Device (3)

Khamul the Easterling

Often named as Second of the Nine, Khamul was Er-Murazor's right-hand wraith. He inspired great terror upon the elves of Mirkwood, corrupting the woods near his stronghold.

Carnor Jax (26)

-Push the Limit (3)

-Autothrusters (2)

-Stealth Device (3)

The Other Nazgul

Names long forgotten to all but the most ancient and forbidden archives, the Nazgul follow the commands of their dark master, and he himself, those of Sauron. Their search for the ring will continue until it is returned to the burning throne of Mordor.

7x Royal Guard Pilot (22)

-Autothrusters (2)

-Veteran Instincts (1)

244 points total

Same point value as the epic Fellowship list above. If we added Faramir, maybe Eomer, and a couple orc fillers, we could have a grand Epic fight

Well they are canon :)
