2 Blues, a Gold and a Bandit walk into a bar..

By Papamambo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, here is the list I came up with. Played it at a local tournament and did fairly well with it.

B-WING: Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Autoblaster (5)

Accuracy Corrector (3)

B-WING: Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Autoblaster (5)

Accuracy Corrector (3)

Y-WING: Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Ion Cannon Turret (5)

· R3-A2 (2)

BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)

Z-95 HEADHUNTER: Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Ion Pulse Missiles (3)

Our friend the Warthog returns here. With the Stressbot, I'm handing out 2 stresses per turn, ideally with an ion. The Blues flank the Gold, so as to ensure that they take some of the heat off the Y. The Headhunter can fly with the pack, but I generally fly him to the side of the board to hit large based ships or immediate threats with the Ion missile.

Now I have to say - I LOVE Accuracy Corrector with Autoblaster. Provided my blues can get in range to knife fight, I will purposely sacrifice Crits and use Accuracy Corrector to turn up 2 uncancellable hits. The looks on my opponents faces are priceless knowing they will eat 4 hits.

I find that when people see the Warthog, they immediately assume it is the biggest threat on the board. By pairing it up with the B's, they really have to pick their targets.

I had tried to revise the list somewhat by dropping the Bandit and changing one of the Blues to Keyan with Jan as a crew member. That unfortunately didn't work as well as I'd hoped, with the Gold being targeted and destroyed first, followed shortly thereafter by either Keyan or one of the Blues. Definitely having the Bandit and all other ships as Generics takes the heat off of any individual ship.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't HLCs w/ FCS on the Blues put out way more damage in the long run? You'd have to drop the IPM on the Bandit, but it seems like you'd get way more punch with that setup.

I'm glad to hear that you've had success with this list. It seems to me that anything that you'd really want Autoblaster for is usually going to be able to do a decent job of staying out of range one of a PS2 B-Wing.

I'd be tempted to turn it into an all ion/stress attack build. You lose a little bit of reliability on the Bs damage output, but you gain even more range and stress for the switchup.

Ion Cannon (3)

Same 30pts per B, but more ion and a chance for stress. There shouldn't be anything the opponent can do with that much potential token slapping aimed at them, regardless of size. You do lose a bit of reliable firepower, but the whole manoeuvrability and range thing became a non-problem for you. A target lock and 3 red dice isn't bad firepower anyway.

Especially when they have a very limited range of things to get away from it each turn, swarm or elite build.

The only thing I can think of doing with the Z is turn it into an A prototype with Chaardan upgrade, for better actions and dial for blocking (15pts). How much ion do you need? Sometimes it's lots, but sometimes a quick, cheap blocker is better.

Or, I could go this route, gaining stress dealers, losing some Ion support, but making up for the damage dealing with Manglers. . And at 99 points, I gain something of an initiative bid.. I suppose I could swap the Bandit for a Tala at an even 100..

B-WING: Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

"Mangler" Cannon (4)

Fire Control System (2)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

I would swap the Z-95 for an A-Wing with Chardaan.
That'd be a big BABY fleet :D

At which point you could slap the ion cannons back on, re-grab the Accuracy Correctors on the Bs, and never entirely whiff shots against Decimators and rival Bs, but maybe not hit hard enough against agile foes.

It's bloody tricky to work out what's best. Glad you're doing well with the list, but I guess you've shown that there's nearly unlimited amounts of points jiggling possible with it.

That's a good thing though. You can still run the same basic build plenty of times, but have different flavours and outcomes each time, all the while getting better with the basic ships. Or an A as a flanker (hint hint).

It's a very nice list to never really get bored with though. Well done :)
