Best Modifications for an Interceptor?

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

What would be the best modifications to put on an Tie Interceptor?

I was think Hull Upgrade and Shield Upgrade.

Is Autothrusters worth it?

Or it depends on the Pilot?

YES.

Autothrusters and stealth device are the fan favorites

Autothrusters is auto include. Stealth Device is the most popular for the second. Shield upgrade costs too much. Targeting Computer was popular on Soontir before Autothrusters.

Basically, it's Autothrusters ave Stealth Device or bust.

Autothrusters is an absolute must now. The remaining 4 that are debated heavily are Stealth Device, Targeting Computer(this one more for just Soontir), Hull, Shield.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Engine.

P.S. Keep up the good work on your twitch/youtube channel. The only improvement I would suggest is X-Wing all day every day.

Should you ever use a Hull Upgrade or a Shield Upgrade with an Tie Interceptor?

You could use shield upgrade instead of stealth device. I've seen people do that. Hull doesn't protect you from crits, but sure.

I do on any interceptor that isn't Soontir. He's so good with Stealth device because he normally has a focus token or an evade to supplement his defense roll. Without those tokens the SD doesn't hold up all that well. I like SU on Carnor as he's normally in the middle of the action and that Shield help protects against crits.

The biggest argument for Shield Upgrade over Stealth Device is that it offers a bit of protection against DeciVader. It's not uncommon to see a Decimator with both Vader and Gunner, who could potentially kill a Stealthed Soontir in one round while leaving the Stealth Device intact.

When flying Carnor Jax, I usually load him with both Shield and Hull Upgrades. He lives in range 1, so the extra durability is more valuable to me than even Autothrusters.

Stealth Device vs. Shield Upgrade comes down to how likely you are to run into a Decivader in my book.

There really is no reason to run an interceptor any other way unless you are running scrub interceptors that do not have an EPT or can't take the title card.

Autothrusters is auto-include because fickle green dice. It's what made Fel into SuperFel. SD/Hull/Shield is more dependent on the pilot and the probability of running into Vader crew.

This

I run a three int list with that as the ship fit and three elite pilots. Win more than i lose :)

Turr can be effective at 28 points with just VI and Autothrusters. With your loadout, even a Royal Guard is coming in at 30 points.

There are always reasons to run other upgrades. But sure, go ahead and think that there is just one and only one effective build for an interceptor...

Stealth device only makes sense on TIs if:

- You expect to consistently have defensive tokens or rerolls available

- You aren't worried about automatic damage

In the best case (taking exactly one more damage than your normal agility would be able to cancel), having a focus token 50% of the time makes SD be worth an average of one damage mitigated (exactly equivalent to a shield upgrade for one point less). However, that's best-case; two damage over and the SD is gone, etc.

That's why having SD on Fel is so good - between two focus, an evade, and autothrusters, he's almost always got enough to mitigate a round's worth of incoming fire.

However, Vader, bugzappers, bombs, etc. don't care about agility and just go right to damage. That sucks, and makes the SU/HU route more attractive. I think that it really starts to depend on what the rest of the list is strong against / weak against, and try and mitigate that with the SD/SU/HU choice.

The meta would have to change pretty drastically to not have autothrusters be autothrustincludes though.

Yeah I do that when I am not flying TIE Advanced...

Yes but it makes them a lot harder to 1 shot.

Uh, actually putting more health on them makes them harder to one shot...

Turr is going to chew up a lot of things that the more expensive RGP is going to struggle with. What upgrades you take really depends on what else is in your list and what you need the ship to do.

I think AT is pretty close to being an auto-include. Stealth device really depends on if you are taking PTL - if so, the ability to turtle (focus&evade) really makes stealth a winner.

It really comes down to what you can afford. I honestly think a sabre squadron pilot with PTL and AT is a bit of a bargain at 26 points, but the siren call of 9 extra points for a pimped out soontir is persistent. Wait... Did you guys here that??

I think you just need to see a Fel (or any Interceptor, really) killed at Range 3 in the first round of engagement (even one shot) for you to say: AUTOTHRUSTERS EVERYTIME!!!!!

Also, the joy of trolling turrets with the classic Fel build is toe-curling. AT changes Intys from turret-phobic to have-a-go heroes.

if you're ultra bad with luck then a Shield/Hull might be the way to go.

Call me superstitious, but whenever I have a stealth device, I'll get hit the first time I'm shot at... if it's range three through a rock, I'm guaranteed to die.

But if you're running PTL, AT & Stealth, at range three while you're turtled, the odds of being hit are drastically low! Two nailed-on evades, plus 4-5 green die with focus? Yeah, you ain't getting hit all that much :) All hail Auto-Fel!
