Hmmm.... I was bummed they dropped a blackhole on Vulcan in his Star Trek revamp. But it was a fun movie other than that.

Why did you need to core to the center of the planet to drop the black hole again? HAHA!

It's probably a really small black hole, and if you want it to get the whole planet, you have to get it right in the middle.

I am of the opinion we are going to get more of the high-ho, we are the good good small guys, they are the bad bad bad big (brother) guys, western shoot em up, they're communists, and look different from us and we should napalm them, and rewrite history so we forget it all and then shoot some movies about it!

In other news, we are in the year 2015 (or was it 2016?). we arent the "good guys". 1984 was 31 years ago, animal farm was never ago, and hey look! that starkiller base looks like north korea, hmmm. i wonder why.

Compared to regimes like North Korea, we are the good guys. We aren't the perfect guys, but nobody is.

I thought it had to do with the interaction between the red matter and the planrt's core...

I got a question. Why is it called a Resistance? Why not call it the Alliance now as the empire was overthrown and they are no longer rebelling? But then again that would also be asking why a democratically elected leader was given the title of Queen.

Because jarjar abrhams likes to change things for the sake of it, why did Klingon get that terrible remake for into darkness because reasons.

Major reason I'm hesitant over the movie.

JJ Abrams is a dumpster fire of a human being... Every single thing he's ever attached his name to , aside from Fringe, has been absolutely god awful... There's no reason to believe TFA is going to make any coherent sense with anything else, and I will be skeptical of everything until I walk out of the theater...

He directed but didn't write Star Trek.

He's writing and directing Star Wars.

He wrote an episode of Avatar (Air Bender). The Drill. Good stuff.

Wrote Lost (the pilot at least, which was better than the rest of the series) (Was there lens flare in the pilot for Lost?)

Wrote Armageddon which was fun. (Buchemi riding the nuke in the hanger, lol.)

I haven't seen anything else he's credited for writing/directing.

I refused to watch Mission Impossible 3 on principle... was there lens flare in that? He wrote/directed it.

I find a lot of issues people have with Trek can be squarely placed on Orci & Kurtzman. It is really, really scary when you compare the Treks to Transformers and Amazing Spiderman.

The fact that Trek is so fun despite those two is a testament to JJ's influence. And I loved Super 8.

He produced Revolution, Lost, Super 8, Cloverfield... Disaster, mega-disaster, what even is this, and dear god this is awful...

He had a bunch of baseline average stuff that every director, writer, producer has... But his bad stuff is just awful, but he's celebrated like he's some genius... That's the big problem with him... He's all marketing, no substance...

Lulz I just had a funny thought.

The Empire was Lucas Films, and the Emperor was Lucas. He had vision, but albeit a little crazy. The First Order, which has seemingly squashed the rebellion to nothing more than the resistance now, is Disney now that Lucas is gone..... able to build the empire into it's full potential.

Anyways, from an interview somewhere, JJ described the conflict in TFA as one where both sides think they are the good guys. The First Order isn't some evil empire for no real reason. All will be revealed on Force Friday (sept 4) with the release of Aftermath (book)

Teacher: "Why were the curtains in the story blue?"

Me: "They were blue"

I thought it had to do with the interaction between the red matter and the planrt's core...

Doesn't seem to be, since they used it on the Romulan ship at the end and it still created a black hole.

Because JJ Abrams wrote Star Trek right? It's not like those inept morons who also wrote the latest batch of Spider-Man movies did it. The director Is responsible for getting good performances out of his actors and shooting it in a way that is visually appealing. Also, it's not like this is the first time Klingons got remade for... Reasons!

Never mind that the new Trek movies were the highest grossing Trek movies ever and were actually a ton of fun to watch as long as you didn't think about them too much. They were this really well done (visually at least*). This sounds like another movie I love. Honestly, my favorite gripe about new Trek is that Abrams made a Star Wars movie and put a Trek name on it. They're right of course, and man I can't wait to see what he does with an actual Star Wars flick.

*enough with the lens flares man, we get it.

Warp Core anti-matter maybe??? This is a very serious conversation...

The same can be said of George Lucas, minus Empire

So basically anything with a core.. red matter is triggered by cores.

Whelp, time to get rid of these jawbreakers :)

So someone asked you a potentially interesting question about symbolism, and you responded by rejecting the question in favor of a tautology?

I liked Alias. I do not think the new Lens Flare the Movie movies were that bad. Well, aside from the fact that I was rooting for Kahn. They were 3 star movies where the old movies were either 4-5 star movies or 1-star movies. The good ones were really good and the bad ones were avert-your-eyes-it-may-take-other-forms horrible.

They killed the leader and the biggest weapon, but they didn't clean the galaxy out of the Imperial Fleets and armies. The Empire, while fractured, still likely controls most of the galaxy through sheer force, angry and confused about what happened and the future.

Well this is a new perspective to THIS!!!

Been dreaming of the possible future...

If the Awakens factions are going to be compatible with the existing X-Wing, there could be some fun "pairs" matches ahead. Rebellion and Resistance vs. Empire and First Order.

I would like to try a 4 player match with the factions sided like above, each player a different one of those 4 factions with a 150 points to spend. Also, each player has the option to spend up to 50 of their points "hiring" from the scum faction.

Then go at it on a 6'x3'.

Anyone else dreaming up any new possibilities?

Just twelve of the new Ties with three Gozanti's

and

New YT-1300 with ye olde OT YT-1300

But to be completely honest with you I'm not buying any X-Wings because I really dig the black and orange.

Because I'm creating my own small piece of the galaxy with my own characters, you'll probably find me mixing up old and new crew, upgrades, droids etc for narrative purposes.

That's all I got so far

LIKE

Im out of likes for the day :-P

And I most definitely agree.

Rather than trying to intelligently integrate the expanded universe canon, they call it defunct and go"hey JarJar you made such a mockery of Star Trek here is Star Wars for you to mess with"

Rather than wasting time and effort trying to integrate the mostly terrible expanded universe canon, they call it defunct and go"hey J.J. you made the best and most watchable <_<Star Trek movies since the 1980's, here is Star Wars for you to mess with"

Fixed that for you.

BTW, as for the new faction names, there is a basic plot background that you can find on some of the more spoiler-centric sites that explain it, and it seems plausible. Some of the ideas in this thread are fairly close to it.

Best and most watchable? Sorry I'm still waiting for the retina damage to revers itself from the lens-flare induced Apple commercial that was the atrocity called Star Trek. Basically this commercial sums up EVERYTHING wrong with the JJ Abrams interpretation from aesthetics to casting to the dialogue.

Some crap cable service from today looks like the future in comparison to FTL capable spaceships!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

%$ it the apocalypse needs to come NOW! EARTH MUST DIE!!!!!!!!

FIRST ORDER, not New Order (unless you mean the actual Galactic Empire)

The red matter needed to be placed at the core of the planet to insure a relatively quick implosion. If it impacted the surface it would just slowly absorb the planet resulting in many more survivors.

I didn't watch Lost when it was first on because it was way too over hyped, but watching it years later it's ok. JJs other stuff is ok too. His main advantage over George is that he listens to people and is willing to keep people around him who will tell him no. Listen to Kevin Smith, we was on the sets, he saw advanced footage, he's the biggest fan boy out there and he said it will be awesome.

The stakes are super high, much higher than they were before TPM. Disney, Lucasfilm and JJ all know they have one chance to recapture the fans and if this movie doesn't work no one all care about 8, 9 or any other films. I didn't go to the theater to see The Attack of the Clones, which is unbelievable. A new freaking Star Wars movie in theaters and I didnt care at all. That's insane, I've been a super fan since before I could remember, there since the beginning, and I didn't want to see a new George Lucas directed Star Wars movie, because I felt like I was betrayed yet again, episode one still had left a very bad taste. If it wasn't for RotS I'm not sure I would care. That movie barely salvaged the prequels. The clone wars cartoons helped slowly renew my life long love of SW and now I can finally feel hope.

But if it sucks, I ain't seeing Attack of the Freaking Clones again.

Right! First Order. My bad.

I got a question. Why is it called a Resistance? Why not call it the Alliance now as the empire was overthrown and they are no longer rebelling? But then again that would also be asking why a democratically elected leader was given the title of Queen.

Maybe these guys broke away from the Alliance / New Republic. Maybe we will see both Alliance and Resistance in this movie and the Alliance doesn't approve of the Resistance actions towards the Imperial remnants while the Resistance will not stop the fighting until every Imperial citizen is dead or converted to the Republic way. The Alliance on the other hand is happy with just having the space it has taken over and wants no fighting with the Empire remnants, if the people that are part of the Empire want to be Imperial, let them be Imperials.

Maybe they are the Resistance because they are operating in First Order controlled territory to try to raise the populace into rebellion.

Or whatever. We will find out. All things will be made clear. Wait for the freaking movie!!!

Maybe the Resistance are a group aligned with the old Rebel Alliance, but live on planets within a sector controlled by an Imperial remnant faction that calls itself the First Order.

Is that like a baby Tauntaun or something? I bet they're tasty.

I believe the rest of the conversation culminated in me standing firm on my belief there was no symbolism, but rather that the author came about choosing blue curtains for an arbitrary reason.

Don't be silly. Baby tauntauns are called fawns.
