I buy these ships almost entirely for the modeling aspect of it. I don't play regularly and generally buy one of each ship just to paint up and (soon) modify.
What is the #1 reason you buy FFG's ships?
Uhhhh, that's actually a harder question than I first thought?
I haven't gotten into a miniature game for some time. I hate painting; actually I suck at it and don't have the patience. In other words I can't paint. I was at a game store and saw the Falcon, some X-Wings and a Blockade Runner from Kenner I think. The guys were friendly enough and the figures were really good. So I told my wife I'm getting a few models even if I don't play the game. Big mistake...
I have enjoyed the game and have fun playing it though it's far more complex in depth than it started out being so, for me at least, it's not quite as much fun as it used to be. Still enjoyable and I love Epic. I've picked a few places to stop buying X-Wing. The Raider was to be my last ship; I needed an Imperial Epic and it fixed the TIE Advanced. Done. Then the Punisher fixed my beloved TIE Defenders. Darn I didn't like any ships in Wave VII. May as well get the K-Wing too for the TLT and for playing games at the LGS. Double darn I may as well get the set as there are cards in all of the ships. Then I'll stop.
But no.... now there is the Imperial Assault Carrier Gozanti-class cruiser. I actually have been hoping they would release this ship and guess what. Now they will argh... Plus there's to be announcements on September 4th and whatever comes out will surely be fun additions to the game regardless of my
over Wave VII.
Being both a Star Wars and Star Trek fan. To me at least Star Trek model's quality and design I find unappealing and Fantasy Flight's Star Wars: X-Wing figures awesome (Raider could have used a little more thought and Wave VII is uninspiring but beyond that).
So why did I get into this game. The Star Wars universe is fun, the models quality and paintings are generally awesome and it's fun to play.
Why do I continue to get their ships. I dunno? Maybe it's because the Star Wars universe in fun, the models quality and paintings are generally awesome and it's fun to play. Or maybe it's because I have CDO and a completest complex in which case I'll purchase things until I get frustrated with the system then I'll just drop it and move on to my next toy. Pick either reason there's most likely truth in both.
And that's my two cents. Thought if you give me a penny for my thoughts and I give you my two cents who gets the change?
Pre Painted at a reasonably good quality.
The PC games X-Wing and TIE Fighter are in the very foundations of my gaming life. X-Wing Miniatures brings both great minis and a great combat system.
Buying would be inevitable.
The only reason I buy FFG X-wing ships is because it's a fun game. If it weren't a fun game, I would not buy these minis at all.
X-Wing is a fun game, that's why.
To cheer me up after yet another depressing workday.
It's a great game also but that comes second.
#1 reason for me is because the game is a lot of fun and I want more options.
It started because Wil Wheaton told me to, "Play more games"
I stayed for TIE noises and pew pew sounds.
Oh, don't bring up him. I like his show, and watch every episode, but they screwed up SO many rules during that one I can't rewatch it. And, it's a shame, because between him and Seth Green it's HILARIOUS
Oh, I know. But until that episode I had never played any miniatures games. I watched about 50 batreps before I even bought the game and then when I re-watched the episode I noticed all the mistakes. If you watch the uncut version the producers come in at one point and they have to sort of fudge the table because they messed up so bad.
Still, FFG needs to thank Wil for the $600 I have spent so far and the $1000 or so that is still on my wish list.
I grew up playing the X-Wing flight sim and the Decipher Star Wars CCG. Also, I used to play 40k.
I got sick of 40k but still wanted to play a tabletop miniature game. Ergo, now I play X-Wing.
I actually bought in all the waves up to wave 4 before I actually found some locals to play with. I just thought the ships were cool looking.. Hopefully Force Friday gets new folks into the game.. also would be nice if they did commercials during rebels for the new Ghost ship..
I saw the ship models in a display cabinet at my LGS while buying more dice for EotE and I was very interested BUT when I saw this video,

...I immediately bought the core set and wave1. And I gotta say youtube was the straw that broke the Ronto's back. Especially the official tutorial from FFG and the soon to be a million views, the Wil Wheaton/Seth Green/Claire Grant vid from Geek&Sundry.

So the #1 reason is girls. Beautiful women and Star Wars. but I havent encountered one while playing except maybe Howlrunner. ![]()
Because of a crippling addiction.
And the fact that this game is more or less my only good social outlet outside of my college.
But I would not have bought in if the ship models themselves were not so **** good and in proper scale.
