What is the #1 reason you buy FFG's ships?

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

For me, it IS the ships themselves!!! If this game didnt have the ships in detail and scale that they do, I dont know if I would be buying them! Im sure for many its the "game," but for me its the SHIPS!

What is your number one reason?

Cuz they're F'n awsome! And the game is fun too.

But seriously? The scale and quality at first. The game mechanics then locked me in.

It's the toy factor. I get to buy cool toys and play with them with people and have pre-agreed upon rules.

And FFG seems to treat us really well. That keeps me coming back.

The first one because it's cool. The additional copies for competitive events.

You want the honest truth? I came in right after the wave 2 release. I am a Star Wars AND a Star Trek fan. I looked at both X-Wing, and Attack Wing and the minis (and the paint jobs) for X-Wing looked SO much better than the ones for Star Trek Attack Wing. That's how I got in, and if you look at my sig, you'll see how FAR I got in lol

Ships for sure! I have many toys, but few sit out and are displayed...

The game is a VERY close 2nd. Almost a tie. But yeah. Ships!

Because they look amazing on my desk, and I occasionally run around my house going WWEEEEOOOOOSHSHHH VVVVVWWWOOOOOSH.

Don't act like you guys don't.

SSSSSHHHHH.

It's our secret shame.

I have NO idea what you are talking about.

IDIC.

It started because Wil Wheaton told me to, "Play more games"

I stayed for TIE noises and pew pew sounds.

Oh, don't bring up him. I like his show, and watch every episode, but they screwed up SO many rules during that one I can't rewatch it. And, it's a shame, because between him and Seth Green it's HILARIOUS

Everything you said plus STAR WARS!

OLD & NEW STAR WARS!

Peer pressure. I bought the core set because it was cool, even though I was really more interested in the LCG. But he kept encouraging me to buy a little here and a little there, and I did. The collector side of me couldn't let the Firespray or YT-1300 go unpurchased. So I just kept collecting them because they were cool.

Then Scum and Villainy came out and now everything's changed because I have a faction I really care about. Now competing and attending events sounds like fun!

...But I'm still getting all the bounty hunters just because I like to collect bounty hunter merchandise.

Yeah, basically all of this. I grew up with Micro Machines, and as weaksauce as they were (poor sculpting and poorer molding, no regard for scale), I loved them 'cause they were little Star Wars ships! And yes, my girlfriend has busted me more than once flying my FFG ships around the house. And she still loves me. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

I buy the ships because I play the game and want more options for it. I got into the game because I've wanted to try a miniatures game for really long time, but the cost of other games was a turn off. I find that since the action in Star Wars movies is fast paced, that games for it tend to play a lot faster than other systems, and since it's probably such an expensive IP for a company to hold, and the fans are so demanding and fickle, it means the designers/publishers are going to put a lot of effort into making sure get it right, making it fun and balanced. Also I saw the Slave-1 and Interceptor models when they first came out, and fell in love with them.

My old playgroup in Wisconsin were a bunch of holdovers from the WOTC Star Wars Miniatures game, still playing that on a regular basis. When X-Wing was first announced at Gencon (3 years ago?) I was totally uninterested. By Christmas that year I couldn't hold out any longer and was totally in from that point on.

I've been a Star wars fan as long as I can remember but if they game wasn't as good as it is there is no way I would have stuck much money into it, regardless of how great the models are.

The game is number one for me. For where I'm coming from, its waaaaay better than the latest 40k and I don't have to paint one hundred Imperial Guardsmen (I'm a shite painter even after almost ten years now). And obviously STAR WARS. Not to say the models aren't great because they are but I don't think I'd have bought several hundred dollars worth of toy ships if there wasn't an epic game that went with it.

I love the source material - Star Wars OT and Star Wars movies/TV shows. (Don't care much for EU, as I never read the books.)

Now, of all the games that feature Star Wars, I picked X-Wing because it is relatively easy to learn but it nonetheless has enough space for me to experiment with different strategies, teams, playing styles, etc.

If there was no game, I would not buy these models. They're too small and lack the detail I like. I'd be buying (well, I AM buying) 1:72 models to assemble and paint for display purposes. But since there is an awesome game to go with them, then I'm buying the ships I like :)

sometimes once I have payed my bills, mortgage, food, cloths, car, wife, kids I some how have money leftover and that's not good.

So I donate it to FFG to help keep the lights on and there staff employed

I buy the ships because I enjoy playing X-Wing. Simple enough.

I buy them because I like the IDEA of Star Wars: TIE Fighter in tabletop miniature form.
