Quality of the miniatures degrading even further?

By Basby, in X-Wing

It really depends on how the models are made, if they are using injection molding then eventually they will need to replace the mold to keep within correct tolerances of the model. The only minor nitpicks that I have are some minis possess mold lines, the stock paint is okay and a few pegs were a little loose, but I am okay with all these because I want a game I can play out of the box. All the above problems I can solve if I have the initiative to do so, which has been a relief compared to having all those unassembled, unpainted and unplayed space marines in my closet.

Wave 5 was pretty botched in terms of stands. Lotta people had that issue.

my issues were all in the first shipment of waves. My second A-wing sat facing 7 o' clock. So that was screwed up pretty bad. Just shaved the peg, and eventually magnetized all my ships.

My b-wings faced about 11. Again, magnets make things better.

Aside from these issues, I've not had a problem.

Yeah what banana man said magnets fix all

Personally the only problems I have experienced are the occasional peg that is either too tight or lose a some card board that was cut a bit off centre.

As for the minis themselves, the only inconsistency is the paint.

Some of my A-wings have a different shade of red for the others and the ink wash can vary a lot but that's expected.

Over all I would rate FFG's miniature quality to be amongst the best around.

And I own A LOT of their games, including Talisman, Descent, Twilight Imperium plus most of the expansions for these games and many of there other board games.

No FFG has only gotten better over time

I actually think with the empire stuff, the painting has gotten better; I bought another core set a month or so back, and there is a noticeable improvement in the painting on the TIE fighters.

I only had problems with the pegs on my firespray being too tight so I shaved them down a bit. My decimator peg is a touch loose, but no real OMG quality issues.

I think they are getting better and better.

Punisher and K Wing look great!

All Scum stuff is pretty solid as well.

The TIE advanced is very loose on the peg.

Production in China seems to be struggling both in terms of getting product out, quality of merchandise and obviously massive chemical explosions on the docks.

I noticed problems in Wave 4, with the Decimator mount being too loose and falling off the pegs every time I lifted it to move along the board. Wave 5, 3 out of 5 of my Scyks were mounting crooked, the pegs were too loose or the base was warped. Half of my Scum Z-95s were mounting crooked as well. One of my IGs was also mounting at a weird angle as well. So I just said screw it all and magnetized my whole collection.

Looks waaaaayyyy better in the long run in my opinion.

I felt the pegs that came with my Ig-2000's were better then the ones on my Falcon or Outrider.

Can't say I've noticed. In fact, the only ships with issues that I've seen have been older ones:

1. HWK that had its rear fins pop off randomly

2. A Y-Wing that's clear peg slot fell out.

3. Saw a TIE Advanced in a box with a broken wing. If it was a FLGS and not Barnes n' Noble, I probably would've tried to talk them into a discounted price and glued it back on myself.

But mostly? All good.

The title does not match what the thread is about.

CR90 and Wave 5 were awful in terms of peg tolerance, and Wave 6 overcompensated with overly tight pegs. Raider seems okay.

The first lot of B-Wings were crooked, the first lot of Lamba's couldn't deploy their wings properly and the first lot of Firesprays couldn't stay on thier stands. FFG addressed and fixed all of these issues when they did a second print of them...they're good like that

Mistakes happen, little printing issues and such. Let's be honest, in the grand scheme of things, what you pay for is absolutely incredible

is it just me?

Just you.

No it isn't only him. I also noticed it.

Only ever had problems with the outrider and scum and villainy wave.

Nearly every small ship has pegs that cracked the collar or each other, and one starviper didnt even have a collar at the base of the ship to attach a peg.

The outrider pegs were too loose, i had to put blutack in the sockets to make it stick, otherwise the base fell off whenever you moved it.

CR90 has always been a bit wobbly but nothing too bad

I've only had a few issues but mostly the quality is good. I have a bomber that is mounted backwards, the YT-1300 leans forward and the Raider is a bit wobbly. A couple of other things but like I said mostly great. I do have a few shuttles and the last one I got the wings folded completely down with no effort. Either I got lucky or FFG fixed something. In fact they do not want to stay up.

I've had good luck with all mine, but the Tie Advanced I got with the raider has a sloppy fit with every peg I've used on it.

I've noticed with a few large ships the pegs are loose. I can pick up my Lambda, 1300 and 2400 by the model and the base comes with it but if I pick up the Decimator by the model the base falls off.

Use wood glue on the loose peg models. Works well, and soaking in water will unglue it. I keep all mine in a display case so on the pegs all the time anyways.

The only problem I've had is the peg attachment coming out of my TIE Defender. I'm actually okay with that since it makes repainting that much easier, and once the paint job is done, a drop of superglue will fix it just fine.

I had a few bad paint jobs. Mostly minor errors...But the big blotch of yellow that almost completely missed the astromech on a few of my Y-wings from the Most Wanted box was really bad- I repainted them. But my CR-90 is a big mess- red paint brush marks in 5 places and some shading (ink wash) completely missed sections. EVERY other one I've seen looks waaaay better. I'm gonna repaint soon with before and after pics to post. But that said- I still LOVE all my models.

I think the peg problem sucks but it's mostly on my Z-95s and Y's from Most-Wanted and since they ARE crooks, they shouldn't fly 'straight' anyway.

:)

It seems to me that the quality of the look of the plastic pegs is increasing. The new pegs are more brilliantly transparent (not just translucent) and have fewer air bubbles. Or am I imagining things?

As far as problems, I've had the usual: had to shave down the Lambda a bit to get the wings to fold down; my wave 3 B-wings are crooked, my YT-2400 doesn't stay on the stand, and neither does my CR-90 (although that one fits better than the YT-2400).
