Quality of the miniatures degrading even further?

By Basby, in X-Wing

Anyone else noticing that with each wave the quality of the miniatures stands seems to be getting worse and worse or is it just me?

I started noticing around wave 5 little things. Pegs too loose, Pegs too tight, receptacles not mounted on the miniatures correctly causing them to not sit straight on the stands. Seemed even more common with wave 6.

Now I get the Raider and the rear stand is noticeably shorter than the front. It’s still playable, but highly annoying with the front of the rear stand popped up into the air.

Anyone else seeing defects like these over the last couple of waves?

I haven't received my Raider yet and don't know about Wave 7. But the only miniatures I've ever had problems with were the Outrider not staying on the stand, and the B-wings back in a Wave 3 being very crooked on the stand. I didn't have any problems with Wave 6.

Just you.

I'd say the quality of the model itself has remained consistent but yes the pegs and connectors do seem to be less so. The pegs seem more likely to come out of the package warped or not fit snugly to the connector. I've had no issues getting these replaced after a phone call to customer service.

Wave 5 was pretty botched in terms of stands. Lotta people had that issue.

my issues were all in the first shipment of waves. My second A-wing sat facing 7 o' clock. So that was screwed up pretty bad. Just shaved the peg, and eventually magnetized all my ships.

My b-wings faced about 11. Again, magnets make things better.

Aside from these issues, I've not had a problem.

Having trouble picturing this issue with the Raider. That said, the peg on one of my Raider's stands was too big (or the front receptacle too small) so pushing them together resulted in the clear plastic on the Raider cracking and a small section breaking off. Also, the TIE Advanced is crooked on its post. I can't tell if the hole was drilled crooked or if the peg was glued to the TIE crooked. I had a few Armada squadrons with the post holes drilled crooked. Considering the thousands of these things made, a few mistakes are bound to creep in, especially on later runs when the tooling might be starting to wear.

Honestly, I've had issues like this from the beginning. So no, I don't think it's degrading -- just more of the same.

My original tie adv was crooked

One tie fighter out of 6 was crooked a starter set one

I had one b wing out of 4 an original non aces

My falcon likes to fall forward I think it's a peg issue

This is out of about 40 ships so it's not bad but can be really annoying

I own everything. My firespray sits at about a 10 degree angle on the peg. Otherwise I have had no problems.

The only issues I've had like the ones you describe were actually with Wave 1. Everything since then has been smooth sailing.

I'd second the suggestion of getting in touch with FFG Customer Support, who really are great people on issues like this.

Crooked pegs have been an issue since wave 1, but the B-wing and Firespray are the worst of all so far. Some of my wave 6 minis had loose pegs, and the insert bit at the top of one peg with my IG-2000 was about half as long as it should've been.

The models themselves seem to have improved since wave 1, wave 4 and beyond have had better detail, but I think it's in the casting process, because my Most Wanted Y-wings are much better than my wave 1 Y-wing.

Wave 5 were the odd ball wave as there were something wrong with many mounting pegs. When talking actual quality degradation, I have noticed some of the older ships getting more noticeable mould lines and also some casting flaws are showing up, particularly on Y-wings. This isn't something most people will notice but as someone who paint the buggers, I've come to know the ships' peculiarites quite well.

Actually, the models have not changed in the slightest, it's the far superior scum paintjob that tricks you into thinking that.

The thing that has most consistently bothered me has been the wings on the shuttle. I mean, really, how did that pass QA?

I haven't seen an Outrider (and most VT-49s) that sits snugly on the pegs. Luckily the Epic stands fit them snug.

The later shuttles has had much better wing depression. Perhaps not perfect but much improved.

Maybe it flew casual?

:P

I was pretty late buying mine, so maybe the wings being perfectly horizontal was the improvement? Still, shouldn't have had to crack it open and cut some tabs to make it work as intended. That's what I like about pre-painted - I don't have to do any work on them!

It's quite possible that you've gotten an early version, or that it was old stock that hadn't been sold until you bought it. But yes, those horisontal wings were a mess. Most people I know plays with the wings folded up to prevent the damned thing knocking everything over.

Could be. Sensible solution, but it just didn't look right to me. Found a nice tutorial on how to fix it with minimal damage, and now the wings fold up for storage and down at the proper angle for play.

I don't think so, the edges on the MW Y-wing's details are clearly crisper and more pronounced. I can't see the difference being due to paint thickness alone.

If you are having issues with the pegs being too loose there are two easy methods I have found to tighten them up. The easiest is to take a little bit of plastic wrap (or any clear plastic packaging) and place it over the ub and the extra material helps snug them up, the other more permanent method is to apply paint or gloss coat to the nubs.

my raider peg was broken. I submitted a request to get a new one.

After seeing this new stuff, force no! The quality's gotten even BETTER!

My raider's stands were perfect. The CR90, however, had stands that were wobbly and off. Looks like it hasn't really degraded, it's just the luck of the draw.
