My Raider blackout is over - catch me up

By mazz0, in X-Wing

Right, so I was avoiding all Raider and X1 spoilers and discussions till I'd got mine. Got mine now!

So, catch me up! Is Palpatine over powered? Is he worth the points? What's the best Raider title? Which System do we put on Lieutenant Colzet (and is he good)?

What have you all been discussing while I've been avoiding all the chat? Summarise the billion threads I assume there have been about it for me!

Howlie allows your primary weapon which fires twice, to reroll 1 die.

Jonus buffs secondary weapons. You have 3 of them.

Just like C3PO never sees use on the corvette, you won't see the emperor on the raider too often. The crew slots are too valuable to give up.

4 tempests with Accuracy correctors and cluster missiles is a holy terror against 2-ship lists.

Palpatine is amazing and easily worth the points. Run him either on a Decimator with a single ace (I like him on Kenkirk), or on a shuttle with two. He excels in small-ship lists where there are only a few dice rolls per round, as that maximizes his impact.

Colzet gets FCS. Free TL that he gets at the end of the combat round, allowing him to then flip a card faceup? Take that, fuzzball.

There was a change in the huge ship rules and now, in epic dogfights, a huge ships starts with full energy on both the ship card AND all hard point cards.

I'm not really sure which title is the best. I'm thinking the Instigator combined with Shield Technician. That way, you can pick home much storage to use and it's always one less. You can save your energy for other stuff.

Impetuous will usually be good, though. Blast the little ships all day long and keep getting TL's.

Assailer is probably best when duking it out with the CR-90 at long range. Get Ysanne Isard, as well. That way you will always have an evade when damaged and a greater chance of it working.

People have been reporting Lt Colzet should get FCS.

For Juno, people aren't sure what to do. They want VI to always be able to evade your opponent. They also want PTL to have get all the actions in the world.

Maarek Stele works best when someone else is there to draw their attention away from him.

People still complain about the X1's dial, especially when flying with Vader. They have been too used to Soontir Fel for the past few months.

People have been back and forth on the Emperor and if he's worth it. Some swear by him and others don't. Some say don't use him in Epic and other people say he's best in Epic.

This morning, there were more Epic threads at the top of the listings than probably the total threads about epic I've ever seen before today combined.

Except brobots in my experience :(

I'm not sure I follow you. He works in conjunction with all things, doesn't he? I'm not clear why he's worse on a huge ship than on a Decimator or Shuttle.

So we agree he sounds pretty cool then? I like the ability, and I like the idea of a PS3 elite!

He's saying that, since the emperor works just as well on a shuttle, there is no point in putting him on a raider and using up the raider's valuable crew slot.

That title is amazing if you can't afford Howelie or Jonus, but it does require some luck though.

Isard is worthless on the Raider. Loosing shields is terrible, and even if her token mechanic did function oh huge ships, it would take too long for her to trigger. Keep her on the deci.

Emperor is good, my friend liked making quotes in his voice whenever he changed dice.

He himself isn't worse, its just that when he is put on a Raider, you kinda shoot your raider in the foot, and it can't preform as good as it could of otherwise.

There are better crew to be used on the Raider itself! I was playing with lists earlier today and would never put Palpatine on the Raider!

But why are the crew slots on the Raider more valuable than on the Shuttle? Genuine question, I'm not arguing.

OK, I'll have a look through the "what crew do you put on your Raider" threads, that should answer that.

Any other must-reads?

There was a change in the huge ship rules and now, in epic dogfights, a huge ships starts with full energy on both the ship card AND all hard point cards.

There was a change in the tournament rules which some feel apply to casual games too. The actual Huge Ship Rules have not changed since March. At least not yet.

Because the Raider can equip Huge-Ship Only crew like Tarkin and Shield Technician.

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted. Doh!

So what's the verdict on Juno? Kinda reminds me of the hype about Fett before it came out, and I for one never found he lived up to it. Different for her of course - being on a small base should make her easier to redirect on the fly.

I've personally ruled that those combos don't work in my games, because having a TIE bomber glued at Range 1 and being essential to the ship's operation is just plain daft. Debating if for the sake of fairness I should do the same with Jan, Roark and Jendon.

Huges can't have focus or evade tokens.

The big thing is this: she lets you have 1-straights and the 1-hard. This is fantastic. She's a bit... snipe-y, for lack of a better descriptor. You can use the speed control to stay at Range 3 of your target and just ATC them while keeping your defense up.

I recommend Lone Wolf.

Once the mk.II engine comes out she's golden till then only having 1banks as green is a little limiting.

Well, if she knows she won't want to do a three bank then she gets green twos as well.

Ah, forgot that Epic can't use Evade tokens. Gotcha.

As for Juno....yeah, she is a bit over hyped. There are those people that just have to move last with PS 9 and she's PS 8. So, if you go with VI, you don't get PTL. People are used to PTL Interceptors and anything short of that just isn't good enough in their book. So, Juno is a let down for some people. Still, if you really want someone to adjust your movements after everyone else, then go with VI. If you want her to dominate everyone but those PS 9 ships, then go for PTL (once Mk II engines come out). Personally, I'm glad that she's PS 8 and not the new Soontir.

Quick question, if Juno increases a green "1" bank to a speed "2" bank, does it stay green or turn into a white manoeuvre?

Likewise reducing a straight "2" to a "1", would give her a lot more green on her dial.

.....EDIT just looked up the preview article again and she does,

Except brobots in my experience :(

I don't understand... statically the 4 cluster missiles should take down 1 of the brobot.
