Another "storage" thread?!

By derekstanggt, in X-Wing

I use an assortment of different Plano cases, all the same size on the outside measurements, and keep them in a duffel bag. I'm also one who carries all mine to the LGS once a week for casual play. My epic are in a modified Plano single case with small attached cases for the tokens and such. I will have to find something to accommodate the Raider and forthcoming Gonzati. It makes it quite easy to grab and go.

I'm glad I invested in the KR Multicase system. I realise it's a lot of dough for storage, but I've spent a lot of dough on ships, and I think the faffing about involved in building everything to play with it, and dismantling it all again to put it away would begin to grate on me after a while.

I'm up to 4 cases now though, and will need a 5th for the new Epics...

Do you have a pic of your setup?

That's another reason why I like my $25 Plano. I put the ships in on their stands and I'm good to go. That's another reason not to like Battlefoam as I can't do that.

Also, my mate ran over his (card) case, and everything barring one X-wing gun barrel survived! I wouldn't reccomend trying it though. I think he was very very lucky not to lose more...

I have some pics from a couple of waves ago. I should probably do an updated pic, but the missus might see it. :D

Oh that's pretty.

I have the Plano in the picture in the OP and It is awesome, I can store everything (excluding epic) up to current Wave, no room for Wave 7 tho, and I have at least 1 of every ship (2 of each mostly if not more). The top is also nice to put bags of excess tokens and things in.

I use a tray for each faction and the 4th tray is for using in Tournaments/games altho I could use it as another storage tray and get another smaller box for use on table.

Hold the phones.....

I just found a 4 pack of the 3750 trays at Academy for $10!!

Compare that to Bass Pro, where a single 3750 tray is going for $9!

Maybe I could just continue to fill up these trays, and swap them in and out of my case when I need to carry them. Regardless, this is a killer deal!

Here are a couple of my current 3750 trays, pretty filled up.

The only real care I take is for the 5 X-wings. Each is standing on its tail in seperate slots. I have 7 TIE Fighters lined up slightly offset to fit in the same amount of slots the 5 X-wings take up. 4 more slots hold 7 Interceptors, each on their tails with a 2nd facing downward. You can put 3 Z-95s in a single slot on their tails though 2 is easier(I have 3 + 2 Scum in another box for overflow and Scum). 1 slot holds 2 E-wing on their tails next to 5 A-wings dumped into a double wide slot. 2 Defenders and a Phantom in a triple wide slot. 3 Bombers in a 4 wide slot that might be able to squeeze something else in.

Bottom half of the box with the "tall" slots. 1st slot fits 2 Ys, 2 Advanced, 2nd Phantom and a Hawk. Deci and YT-1300 on the mid. Last slot holds my 3 B-wings and atm, the new Raider Advanced.

What are those white boxes for each ship and where do I get them? TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

I have basically an identical set up. Getting a second of the same to expand into. Also have one for Imperial Assault. Don't have the nifty cardboard boxes though. Where did you get those OP?

Good news, Darth Chuck, they're free.

I use this case:

80783300.jpg

It holds:

8 tie fighters, 4 tie bombers, 4 tie advanced*, 6 tie interceptors, 3 phantoms, 3 defenders, 3 firesprays, 2 lambdas, 2 decimators and all the cards, dials and templates. I only carry 4 large stands/9 small stands and 10 of each token. I have never had a problem with them being damaged, I don't have any foam in it and I literally put it in my backpack and bike a few miles to school. Im going to say battle foam probably is not necessary for imperials....

*As soon as I get my raider

I found your space problem. You have each ship in its own little box it seems. Despite their looks, the ships are pretty rugged I've seen. I have the same Plano boxes and tackle box they go in as you. After ~2 years in these boxes, I've yet to actually have something break.

Between the Raider, the Gozanti, the Hound's Tooth and the Ghost, I'm rapidly going from "Battlefoam is too expensive, I'll stick with Plano" to "I need something heavy duty. $200 for a Battlefoam case isn't THAT much..."

I currently have 3 Plano 3700s one for each faction. I have moved my epic ships into Sterilite containers since they don't leave the house much. I still have plenty of room for wave 7 and probably wave 8. The 3 Hound's Tooth I have ordered will fit just fine in the top of my Scum 3700.

Holy crap. We alld really pack these things the same way don't we?

Pics or it isn't true! ;-)

My thoughts are 'I've probably spent a couple of thousand pounds on models, so a hundred or so on foam is not so bad...'

Battle Foam 1520XL for me, although I've got an older 432 for the overflow.

Do you battle foam guys have pics? I'm curious to see how they handle large collections.

I see no mistake here.

For you, maybe. I don't have the cash to buy all the Wave 7 stuff! The Hound's Tooth is on the waiting list.

I guess I could see battlefoam as a one time buy, but it still needs expansion once your collection grows enough.

...and grow....and grow....and grow...

Then you want the bigger case. I've been down that road before on other game systems.

So question for Chadwick and other guys who use Plano systems. Where do you keep your misc things like tokens and templates? I've been keeping them in one of the four trays, but outgrew that. Then I purchased another 3600 series tray to keep them in, and I put that in the top portion of my 1374. But now I'm thinking about getting some pluck foam for that top portion so I can store the Hounds Tooth, Ghost, and other large/awkward ships there.
