Maybe not in 300 point games, but I can see this being a thing in 400 point matches and up. Get some early game hits at range, then they depart and buff your fighters when the furball happens. Sticking them close to the Raider all game might not be the best use of them.
But hey, it frees up for crew slots from dice manipulation. Jonus works great on the Single Turbolasers, because the turbos themselves can change a focus to a hit, and Howile is great if you plan on firing the main weapon twice. Now you can do the coordinate action or some other one besides constantly target locking with weapons engineer, or taking that one shuttle and title to pass target locks to you.
