Hey folks. I don't usually like to ask for ideas with statting NPCs, but this work week has fried my brain.

I'm going to be starting up a Clone Wars campaign for my group soon, and Dwarf Spider Droids will show up now and then (they'll be spending a large portion of the game pursuing Shu Mai). How would you write up these little buggers?

A vehicle with a droid brain, meaning two profiles, one for droid one for vehicle. Example would be the I-C2 Civil-Industrial droid from Far Horizons, or the sentry starfighter from the adventure in Edge core book.

It depended on the threat level and intended use I had in mind for them. If I wanted hordes of them like the first round of clone wars toons I'd probably make them really nasty minions. If I wanted a boss fight more like Republic Commando, really tough Nemesis. If it's something for a vehicle encounter, then Rusak is right and make it a vehicle.

The most generic version I'd go for would be as a kind of infantry support platform. Something your foot soldiers bring along to do heavy lifting and provide fire support, or deployable in small units to engage light vehicles or provide sentry duty.

Something like:

Rival:

All stats 1 except Brawn 2, Agility 3

Soak 6, WT 15

Discipline 2, Perception 1, Gunnery 2

Talents/Abilities: Droid

Equipment: Laser cannon:Gunnery, Range Long, Damage 10, Crit 3, Breach 1, extra reloads.

Optional: Long range comlink. (Wookieepedia mentions a self destruct, not sure why but I guess that's an option too)

Simple, highly effective against people without being able to lay waste to the party in one turn. Moderately effective against light vehicles like speeders, with a group of them being a noteworthy threat. When it shows up and fires the first time the players will have reason to be concerned, but it's damage and skills ranks will keep it from obliterating anyone accidentally, with a high enough soak and WT that you'll typically want to bring some real firepower to take it out.

I concur with Ghot's logic. Considering still doing a vehicle droid, gun should be a personal weapon mounted, like on 74z speeder bike in Edge core book. Works thematically with edge games of course, working clone wars war droids are rare.
