My god, that thing's uglier than the K-Wing.
It's almost as ugly as the non-aquatic version of the Pulsar Skate.
Don't even. The Ark Angel actually has a coherent design, the /shape/ is wierd, but it's not actually jumbled.
Only real issue is the off-reference stuff in that comic, the art does stupid things like show it with only three engines from the rear (I count 5 in this shot).

I don't think so, no.
First, I read Star Wars novels mostly for neo-pulp escapism. If I want to be made uncomfortable, and to think about the human condition and the ways we violate and damage one another, I'll read something else--I have three eight-foot bookcases full of history and literary fiction. Steve Perry does not appear there.
Second, John Scalzi writes:
... while you can put these sorts of scenes into your work, maybe before you do, you should ask yourself why. Ask yourself what actual value they will bring to your work. Ask yourself if you are entirely sure about that value.
^Keep in mind Kasdan's done like 3 things in the last 20 years, though, and I don't trust Disney not to meddle.
Exactly. Just look at what happened with George Miller and the Mad Max franchise. After Beyond Thunderdome he directed Happy Feet, Happy Feet 2 and Babe Pig in the City. Why they would let him back and make Fury Road is beyond me. What a disaster that was.
I can only assume that last part was sarcasm, Fury Road was brilliant
Sarcasm aside, It really wasn't.
Edited by TvayumatWell, not everyone can have good taste.
Edited by SithborgThat arc angel thing looks about 3 times as worse as a firespray. Imagine propping the space shuttle on its tail so it's pointing upwards, and then have it fly horizontally, that's how awkward these ships look.
And that terrible paint scheme too. Pastel colors are terrible.

Does your reason for reading /have/ to force the author's intent to align with you?
Re Scalzi quote - you have no evidence that Perry /didn't/ think about what he was writing.
I mean, I don't care too much for the SotE novelisation, but making posts about how you were triggered in the internet does absolutely nothing.
Also Scalzi has written like, 1 passable book, and then made an idiot of himself everywhere else, but that's not really germane I guess
You need to get Jabba as a crew card somehow! (if there was ever a need to make a crew card take up more than one slot, it's Jabba)
Up until a few hours ago, I would have said FFG's strategy would be simple: let new canon roll in and simply add it to the pile of material from which to pick and choose.
Why would I say that? Because, they already draw from so many sources (I count 18 sources at least, including movies, books, video games, comics; see below) and they brand it all with the same "X-Wing Miniatures Game" iconography. This means they are essentially curating their own version of Star Wars canon from the stacks and stacks of material presented.
Now we see that they are changing this up (too scared to potentially not benefit from the Force Awakens direct call-out on the packaging, etc).
I don't know if the leaked images confirmed the SKU number to be one of the three missing. I would guess it is, but who knows.
If the new packaging starter set is indeed simply in line with the existing SKUs, then I don't think this is a new game version, as the SKU system would *probably* start over from scratch (see the FFG example of the Game of Thrones card games 1st and 2nd editions).
What a confusing and entertaining and delicious tricky problem we're left with. Good job, FFG!
Canon by Special Edition:
YT-2400
Has someone behind the scenes actually SAID that is a YT-2400? It certainly could be, but all the picture is is a flatish blur with a glowing blue blur behind it.
No offense but do you really need some official source to tell you that what is obviously a YT-2400, is a YT-2400?
I mean, Shadows of The Empire IS regrettably, canon, after all.
Where is a picture of something that is obviously a YT-2400 in the films? Because the ship in that scene is a mostly indistinct blur, part of which is glowing. It is flatish, but with protrusions on the top and bottom that could be anything. The cockpit side isn't visible, which is the most distinctive part of the 2400. The ship in that picture could be almost any YT series ship, or even a different type of ship.
So the rectangular engine, pod on the side, and turret mounds aren't giving it away?
I see what your seeing and I think it's meant to be the Outrider (Lucas does like to reference) but, it really could be something else.

Old Man's War was good. The Android's Dream was good. Redshirts was only okay until the triptych of short pieces at the end, which IMO deserved the Hugo the book won. Fuzzy Nation was only briefly diverting. Lock-In is only okay, but the world-building is really interesting, and it plays a couple of other interesting tricks. Also Scalzi has written like, 1 passable book, and then made an idiot of himself everywhere else, but that's not really germane I guess
So for me he's got a couple of solid home runs, and if he doesn't manage those he's a pretty reliable base hitter. But it's not actually relevant whether his novels are any good, because it's not relevant to the point he's making in the blog post I linked.
Can we leave the Puppy stuff out of the forum, please?
But... The cockpit side IS visible.
You can see it. Right there. The back end of it.
Can we leave the Puppy stuff out of the forum, please?
Sorry. We're way off topic anyway; I'll quit arguing the point from here out.
Can we leave the Puppy stuff out of the forum, please?
I'll echo Vorpal's post above, but I don't even this post, what do puppies have to do with anything here?
I have an idea: What if we pretend that the special editions never happened and we continue to enjoy the unmolested versions of the 3 Star Wars movies and THX 1138?
This way arguments about whether or not it's a 2400 are irrelevant. Also it's quite blatantly a YT-2400.

If you don't know, then that's for the best.
I want a YT-1138

Dammit, so do I!
Getting back on topic. The old EU is 99% dead. FFG might actually be the only outlet still promoting it. I'm sure they'll pick and choose as they want from the Legend category until there's enough new EU to support 7-8 new ships a year.

Essentially this. The Force Awakens will give us probably two waves of ships at best. FFG isn't going to sit on their hands for two years before they are allowed to release whatever new toys await in Episode VIII, so we'll likely see them return to the EU for inspiration during the interim period.
After all, you say that the EU is "99% dead". but it also makes up approximately 75% of the X-Wing Miniatures game.
While I basically agree with you gecko, keep in mind that
1-there is only 1 year between movies, rogue one will come out between episodes, and
2-there aren't just movies coming out in the new canon. There are already new books and comics and (I think) technical manuals which may add new ships as well. To say nothing of a TV show.
Speaking of the special editions, ain't there a precedence for them making ships that otherwise only showed up in the old EU canon by having them appear in new material? Haven't dived into the new stuff(beside the comics) to confirm yet but I believe someone else brought it up before.
Besides that, like I mentioned before authors tend to be mostly derivative(by necessity) when they have to work on a pre-established universe. This is to help keep things cohesive despite many hands working on different plots. I wouldn't be surprised to see the return of old EU ships in new material, especially as some of the authors them selves may of been fans growing up.
All in all tho A LOT of the old EU was of dubious quality, lets be honest. With them throwing out all the old stuff I imagine they'll still cherry pick some of the better bits and pieces. FFG will still probably do it for no other reason then the rate at which they releases products. Keep in mind the old EU was built over decades, it will be a long time coming before the new stuff can offer as much material unless Disney pushes the license on every available author they can find.
And to hell with you Ark-Angel haters
I like the crazy paint job and Aphra is my favorite character from the new stuff so far.

They said it was in two magazines along time ago. If you want a reference PM me and I will give you them.
Who cares about the EU?
A new Box is about to come, with new Fighters and Wings.
New movies will come with more Fighters and Wings.
I'm fine. ![]()
