Game over for EU?

By patox, in X-Wing

The Mist Hunter and Punishing One. Are these going to be the last we see of the expanded universe ships?

6 movies are on the way. And there's at least 1 ongoing TV show. That means way more canon ships. Wave 10 could be all about Rogue One ships.

Not to mention rumors of a live action tv show. And throw in the ever growing comic titles and video games, there's a lot of canon to pull from.

A lot of this is also set during the galactic civil war, the original trilogy.

Only 3 movies are set 30 years afterwards.

Oh, extended universe. I was worried that there'd be no more X-wing in Europe. >.>

Thanks godness, no more ugly ships.

Yeah probably, and I couldn't be happier about it. Once one lets go of their feelings, and embraces the darkside... Erm.. New Canon, you could never be happier with all of the great new stuff coming out! If you are stubborn about EU, you will miss out on a brand new Star Wars Saga!! (Not saying you are like this :) )

I seriously doubt we're done with the EU. It seems unlikely to me that the new canon will give us enough new ships, in the right proportion for the game's three factions, quickly enough to support FFG's pace of releases for X-wing.

Agreed. We'll get an influx of new ships with Ep7, but unless 8 and 9 are another 30 years distant from each other we'll see a lot of recurring ships between the three.

The scum faction really has the most to gain from all of the new canon, and they're the faction with the most EU ships still needing to be released for us.

Timeline should be SWG ships next, then Ep8 ships, then Ep9 ships, then assault gunboat can sneak in if there's room (probably won't be).

Nope i highly doubt the new movies got more than two waves of new ships in it they'll still need the EU.

It's game over for the prequels though :D

Still waiting for the Imperial Gunboat/Missleboat from X-Wing/Tie Fighter series...I've been wanting a nice model of that ship forever...

I thought this was a thread about engine upgrade! That there was a new modification that would be so much better on large base ships that eu would no longer be used! Lol

I could see Rogue One potentially bringing in some new ship possibilities, and it's in exactly the right time frame.

Engine Upgrade's still pretty useful...

Just because you didn't get CSA is no reason to give up all hope...

Mandal Motors will be heard from again...

There are to many GREAT HUTT Ships left unmade for FFG to ignore.

;)

I expect there to be a huge amount of ships in the next 3 movies that they can use. That said, a few EU ships may get thrown in to fill niche roles as needed.

So 95% bye bye to EU.

Thanks godness, no more ugly ships.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. Lucas and Disney are perfectly competent to make ugly ships. The question is: will they be pretty ugly or ugly ugly?

I read Splinter of the Mind's Eye between Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. I also read the Thrawn Trilogy and the Jedi Academy Trilogy. I thought they were worthy installments in what would later be called the EU. But I didn't stick around for the trials of the twins, Luke's marriage to Mara Jade and the various many other events that would occur. So I guess I'm not losing much to get a reset on the EU. A lot of interesting concepts and plot and character developments were presented, giving future authors a lot to work with, expanding what we already enjoyed about the universe and deepening the concepts to give us something deeper to be familiar with. I can understand the frustration of letting all that go as the movie universe continues on. Let's hope the new movies leave us with plenty of fresh new ground for authors to toy with a new EU.

The thing about the EU: there was probably only another Wave or two of material from there. At least,, material anyone actually wants.

I can see something new being developed that shows up in Rogue One, or the Marvel books or something that we all go nuts over. That's the sort of thing we'd probably want more than a Scum ship only 5 people on this forum have heard of.

In fact: I'd love to see the Ark Angel as a Huge Scum ship. I dunno it's scale, but if it fits... Gods. It's ugly and pretty and fits so well.

Bonus: it could be a Scum ship that could yahe Darth. :)

Interesting point. The material anyone actually wants is so varied though.

My group are only interested in OT ships when we play. We've yet to purchase any EU models (and yes, I see the hypocracy in using EU pilots/upgrades). What do we want? More OT. Should everyone think like this. No.

I see other groups who really want prequel ships in this game and are met with a considerable opposing argument. Assault gunboats, Jabba's barge, TIE (insert random word here), etc.

I completely agree with your point. I can speak for myself, in that I would rather see iconic, recognisable SW ships on the table than obscure EU creations. I can however, appreciate that others are fans of, and strong advocates for specific ships/factions. But on the whole, I think the community would rather see ships that have at least seen some screen time.

Nether the less, FFG is a good company!

Ok, the Eu-Ships are ugly, but the game is still awesome.

I like it so much und w'll make more batrep videos, because it's fun.

And yeah, my english is bad, but I don't carev :) :) :)

I look forward for the Worlds! And 2016, and the thing are coming!!!!!

Happy dog fighting to alll!! :D

TIE Avenger and Assault Gunboat still need to be a thing. I can't believe we pleased the no-tasters with the flying Sandcrawler and a ship that's literally 4 TIE Bombers welded together before we got the Avenger or Gunboat.

I don't even give a **** about the EU and I /need/ those ships, they're beautiful.

Ark Angel needs more pilots but god **** if it isn't pretty. Like a rear-on collision between a Firespray and a Droid Gunship.

I count ~3 waves, more if they stretch. The real problem is running out of Rebel snubfighters that aren't bugly semi-Scum things from games that were too low-poly to ever have decent-looking interpretations.

Basically:

A-9 Vigilance, Gunboat, Missile Boat, 2-3 TIE variants(including Clawcraft in this count, though it might be Scum), Skipray (full cross-faction)

Practically every Rebel ship left is large, but there's a LOT of them

Cloakshape, 5-6 SWG fighters (small an large),

Let me also add that if the prototype to the TIE Advanced and super-duper Y Wings and TIE Bombers get to be in the game, there is room enough for the TIE Avenger and Gunboat.

I got my defenders I don't need much else but gunboats, missileboats and the the avenger I'd buy without hesitation.

I wouldn't call them EU ships as more of special edition ships since they were added in The Empire Strikes Back.

EU ships would be more of those which did not have characters in the OT. So these ships would be EU

  • TIE Defender
  • TIE Phantom,
  • E-wing
  • Z-95 Headhunter
  • HWK-290
  • YT-2400
  • MA-3 Scyk
  • VT-49 Decimator
  • MA-3 Scyk
  • Star Viper
  • Kihrax Fighter
  • K-wing
  • TIE Punisher/Interdictor
  • Raider Corvette

Those ships are EU

As for Rebel ships such as Ghost/Phantom and the TIE Advanced Prototype Well just call them Rebel ships.

Everything else in X-wing is OT in one way or another, but yeah the OT has been thoroughly exhausted for source material for X-wing.
