Y-Wings win a tournament . . . Who knew

By Lyraeus, in Star Wars: Armada

So Intensify Forward Firepower went to a tournament today and Eric (aka, Chance, or Eaay) took 2 Assault Frigate B's with Flight Controllers, Expanded Hanger Bays, Advanced Projectors and maybe some other upgrades. He had Dodonna as his Commander and he had 9, yes I said 9 Y-Wings.

I don't know who he fought but he got a 3-0 win in the tournament and won it all.

The ironic part is that this was a Summer kit so he got the Imperial Pilot medal

Rebel Fighters baby! WOOHOO!

I'm glad to hear it, I wish I could have watched! Though from what I hear on IFF, he is quite the skilled individual, so his piloting might have had a big part in the 3-0.

Cockles of my heart: warmed.

META! ;)

I am actually surprised that a 2 ship list won the day. Then again we are talking about Assault Frigates with Advanced Projectors. . . So when they finally go boom, it is after all shields are gone.

Tournament in the UK today was won by Rebems using B-Wings.

Got more info? List maybe? As well as if there were any net lists of the US Nationals?

10 people even split Rebs/Imos

1st place Rebels (10-0 10-0 10-0)

2 x AFIIb (Dodonna, EA on one and Intel Officer on the other)

1 x Neblon Support (Savation, X17 Turbo Lasers)

2 x Awing

2 x Bwing

I played Rebels and came third (9-1 9-1 0-10)

2 x AFIIb (Iblis, EA on one and EA, Gunnery Team on the other)

1 x Neblon Support (Salvation)

1 x Corvette A (Jana's Light)

2nd Place was Imps with 2 x Vic and 1 x Glad plus assorted fighters.

We were discussing squadrons in smaller numbers, used as deployment delays, blockers and in smaller enough groups that any ship could pick them up with a squadron command, so no dedicated "carriers".

Well squadrons used as a stop gap works for me. Being given able to have them activated by any ship is perfect in my eyes

9 Y-wings is weak. should've been 10

Y WINGS!!! UNLIMITED Y WINGS!!!!

Aye, I -knew- there had to be something with Y-wings. I've taken between 4 and 6 with some light A-wing escorts and they've done surprisingly well* when spread out. I just didn't ball them up either. With them spread out a touch, TIE's start to lose Swarm, or they and lighter rebel fighters start to let those bombers slip through their nets. After all, Y's cost less than X's, B's, and Heroes.

Oh, and it goes without saying, bloody cudos to Eric! 'E did well to win somethin like that, 'e did! 'Tis worthy of congratulations. Looking at the fleet composition, I think there's a fundamental truth here: the hangar to squadron ratio has to do something and can't be too far off or else its a waste of one resource or the other. I don't mind a touch of overlap but I know it's not optimal (usually just giving me some role versatility).

*Defining 'surpirsingly well' as “not completely obliterated while causing some damage”.

Yea, I had not considered that 9 Y-Wings/squadrons are better than 10 when you have 2 carrier ships.

Look at 2 Nebulon-B Escorts. The best number of squadrons for them is 4-5.

When the ISD comes out the best number for 2 of them is 11 while a VSD and ISD is 10 (which is a TON of squadrons)

Y-Wings?

Yeah, Y Not? :D

Great to hear...I had a feeling it would do well.

YES!!!!!! Y-WINGS!!!!! **** YEAH!!!!

I was in the Dano group. 2 ships is risky in this current meta

Very risky which is why I go with 2 Whales, CR90 Luke, 3 Bwings and 3 Ywings.

I just find it funny that people find it surprising :)
