BBBJake?

By Jturn314, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Here;s the squad I've played with a couple times now-

3x Blue Squadron Pilot

Jake from State Farm

Title- VI & PTL

Prockets

Thrusters

Flew against Fel, Jax, and the Emporer in a cow- all three of them focused on the blues and burned them down fairly quickly, but the last B killed Jax right before it died and the three of them did enough damage so that Jake could manage to clean up.

Flew against Vader, Colzet, and 2x Tempest, all with their title and ATC- Wasn't even a contest... The blues met midfield and jousted while Jake swung in from behind and took pot shots until the time was right to boost up and drop the prockets. The blues burned Vader down in the first round of combat. Colzet fell shortly thereafter. Jake hit one of the Tempest with a five hit procket attack and the Tempest threw all blanks. The blues then made easy mince meat of the last Tempest.

So what are your thoughts on this list? What do you believe it's major weaknesses to be? Is it a viable option for a simple local tournament?

3 BSPs + X is always a powerful archetype, so long as X isn't a piece of ****

Jake is anything but

what kind of pants is Jake wearing?

Do you think a one point bid is enough for Jake to move last? Or is that less of an issue with the B-wings?

Its not really, because a good number of PS9 lists bid at 98 or even 97.

I've flown something similar, using the same Jake loadout, but instead of 3 B's, I used 2 daggers w/ FCS + HLC. Same points, harder hitting, but of course, less overall hull. Vader and Soontir will eat Jake for breakfast if they get to move last. If Jake moves last, then the proton rockets will destroy one of them and it will be extremely difficult to take Jake out...

Uhhh... Khakis?

I was planning on trying this same list out Thursday but couldn't make it out to the LGS. The only difference was that I was going to put Lone Wolf on him instead of VI.

She. Sounds. Hideous.

Jake the Snake is more fitting, but I also enjoy that commercial...

So I prefer to call him Jake the Snake from State Farm.

Also, I dislike you for giving me another reason to purchase more B-Wings...

Months ago I flew a similar squad to victory in my local Store Championships...

2x Blue

Tarn + R7

Jake + Outmaneuver + VI + Prockets

This was before AT was out. Looking back I should have used PTL instead of outmaneuver, but I did get it to trigger against a phantom a few times throughout the tournament.

Anyway, I love this type of list. Jake can flank and put out some huge damage. He only gets better with AT. I have been flying 4 or 5 ships regularly that include a single flanker. sometimes that gets dropped down to a proto so I can beef up my main squad, other times it's Jake fully loaded. I like having Tarn+R7 in a list like this because if they choose not to deal with him early, he can give you the combination of defense, speed (greater than a B), and firepower you need in the end game.

Regardless, to answer the OP, I believe your list is viable for a simple local tournament. You have a lot of options in how you want to fly and you have efficiency on your side. If Jake gets taken out too quickly it's going to be tough though. PTL and AT will help keep him alive much longer than I was used to.

What do you guys think about dropping the prockets in order to put FCS on all three blues? Is one prockets shot worth more than all the rerolls?

It depends on your play style. I think it will do two things. It will make Jake less of a threat and even out your point distribution a little more. This can be both good and bad. I believe you will also lose your initiative bid which can be important for you to increase Jake's effectiveness. If you do not that have extra point for your PS 9 Jake and you take away his teeth in the form of Proton Rockets, I would just consider replacing him with a Proto + Chardaan and a Z-95.

I really like Jake with proton rockets. He's a great delivery system and they typically hit for 4/5 damage, so to me, that's totally worth 3 points (given that he would've hit for only 2/3 damage without them----+2 damage on a single shot can make a huge difference).

I'm actually thinking my list (2 daggers w/ HLC + FCS) will work well in the new Turret meta. Jake also has some game even after the prockets are gone thanks to autothrusters and his maneuverability. 99 pts is not a great initiative bid though, and I might have to drop one or both b-wings down to blues...
