Adversary Decks.. Everything you need to know is on the card?

By RodianClone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is everything you see on any of these cards or in the books all you need to know to run the npc in an encounter? Are they simplified versions of the rules?

For Example, the Emperor`s Hand has Force Power: Influence. It says on the card he or she can spend 1 dark side point to either give an oponent 2 strain or force a target to adopt an emotional state or believe something for up to 4 rounds or minutes. Does this mean the Emperor`s Hand can just spend the dark side point and not roll discipline vs. discipline like a PC with this Force Power would have to?

They are taken from the core books and work just like the adversaries in the book. You still need to roll discipline vs. PCs and important NPCs.

All they did was transfer the adversaries in the book to a card for ease of use.

They dont have the space to go into specifics, so just list the name of the skill/talent and the ranks they have.

What I WOULD have liked, is the Stat each skill is used with, as I can never remember, and always have to have a spare Character sheet to hand, or ask a Player.

If I didn`t just get FnD and start reading about force powers, I would have noe idea they used discipline vs discipline with influence and would just use the dark side point like the card says.

It`s the first time I`ve used an adversary with a force power and I guess they are a bit more complicated. All the others could fit all the info on the card... I think..

They aren't meant to replace the books. And force powers for npcs work the same as PCs only if you are a darksider you use black pips not white ones. And flip destiny to turn white to dark.

The card says exactly the same thing as the adversary in question does in the book, by the way, I checked it out last night.

The thing is that the adversay description on both the card and in the EotE Core Book(since they are the same) describes the Influence power a little differently than how the power is described for player characters in the books...

The duration is a little bit shorter(4 rounds or minutes, not 5, for 1 Force Point), the strains you would take is more(2, not 1 for 1 Force point). They do however say that the Hand would use Dark Side points, something that is both a little obvious and a little less important(mechanically) in my mind. Discipline vs. discipline would be more important I think.

Since little things are different than the usual power description, I didn`t know if I should just go with the adversary description or add more rules to it. I was a little confused. Usualy all you need is on the description, like how talents work and so on,

It seems logical to have the discipline vs discipline of course, and I did last night, before I read the answers in this thread.

Thanks for helping me out with my confused nerfherder questions, people. May the Force be with you!

Adversary force powers work a little different largely due to trying not to over burden GMs. there is a sidebar in Force and Destiny on resisting force powers. Resisting force powers is something PCs and important NPCs can do. it is not always with discipline.

Ah, so it`s not necessary discipline vs. discipline, so it`s likely that`s why the card doesen`t mention it? Cool, thanks:) I`ll check out "resisting force powers". Just curious, is it in another CRB too?
