Got my Raider yesterday. It has 3 new obstacles. It states they count as obstacles as stated in the basic rule book. So can I bring these to a tournament?
Just wondering?

It's a good question, because frankly I don't trust the rulebook that came with the Raider for up-to-date information (see: green dice at range 3+).
No, the tournament rules (at least as of now) specifically mention the debris field tokens as coming from the YT-2400 and the Decimator.
Ask the TO before the tournament, if they will be permitted. The Internet will not give you a definitive answer, at this point in time.
I thought the internet knows all?

Do they count as debris or work the same as rocks ?

Even if they were rocks the tournament rules say only the core set rocks are allowed.

Yeah - I checked that - just wondered how they are treated
They're debris fields. The confusion send to come from the "they count as obstacles" thing, which, yes they do, specifically they count as debris fields.

cool - thanks

you would think so with all the arm chair experts out there, but sadly no
The GR-75 debris tokens are in fact mission specific tokens. If you look at the list of parts on the front of the Raider rule book, it lists 13 mission tokens of which 5 are the small round satellite things, 5 are the large satellite things leaving the 3 GR-75 tokens. They are not listed otherwise. As such, unless FFG FAQ's them, they are not useable as obstacles in games.
well it says they count as obstacles as in the rule book. So since obstacles from the rule book can be used and these count obstacles from that rule book.
As I said, until FFG FAQ's them, they are tokens. Tokens with special rules used for a single mission in a campaign from a mission booklet.
All I'm pointing out is people should not insist on using them in official tournies as debris clouds in place of the ones from the Decimator or the YT-2400.
As I understood it as I was reading through the mission book, those debris tokens are treated more as mission-specific tokens for the Will of the Empire campaign mission, and not actual debris tokens.

Pretty much nailed it. Only obstacles that are accepted in premier competitive play are the 6 asteroid tokens in the core set, the 3 debris cloud tokens from the YT-2400 pack, and the 3 other debris cloud tokens from the VT-49 Decimator pack.
All other obstacles to include the satellite tokens found in the core set, huge ships being used as obstacles, and any other token besides the ones mentioned in the paragraph above is not allowed for most tournaments. Now for competitive play in the huge ships rules it does say that it is up to the TO discretion to use huge ships as obstacles, but for premier events such as regionals they are not allowed, and in store tournaments (especially ones that have regional super byes as a prize) would likely follow the same rules that is done by regionals.
Edited by MarinealverThe rulebook reference is there so players know how to treat those debris fields - as obstacles, defined in the rulebook.
They are currently not legal in a tournament setting. That may change.
I wouldn't count on the Raider tokens being tourney legal any time soon.
Im fairly certain the the debris tokens have only recently been declared tourney legal, like in the last few months

^THIS^
But yes I think right now the obstacle tokens are set at a certain area (this is a 2d game after all) That being said the size of the debris clouds and the Asteroids are set so that only a specific size of the play area within the boundaries from the edges are blocked off.
The satellite tokens in the core set are too small thus be like putting only 1 obstacle instead 3 small obstacles; and the debris field tokens in the raider are larger than the big one asteroid token in the core set. If there are to be any more obstacle tokens to be added they would be a set of 6 that takes around the same area taken as the debris field set (VT-49& YT-2400) or the same tokens as the core set.
Edited by MarinealverSpoiler alert: they are not legal, and are not going to be legal for 100 point dogfight games. I talked with Alex Davy at GenCon about it. It will be in the next FAQ/Tournament Rules update. I didn't ask about Epic as that's not something I focus on.
