The Deltas love it because they dont care if they stress themselves on the turns anymore. Vessery loves it because his free TL synergises with it. and Rexler loves it because it means he can save his focus for the flips.

It's no Ion cannon fix, but it fixes fickle green (and red) dice all around. what are the boards' thoughts?

TIE/Ad x7 should be closer to this:

TIE/Ad x7

TIE Defender Only.

Missile Slot. Cannon slot.

-4 points.

Your action bar gains Boost and Evade. This card has a negative Squad Point cost.

This follows the fluff for the TIE/Ad x7, namely having it be a Defender that doesn't have cannons or missiles. The cost is negative since the naked Defender is too expensive, and losing the cannon slot is a pretty big deal.

Meanwhile, there should be an Integrated Cannons upgrade, something like this:

Integrated Cannons

TIE Defender Only.

Title.

0 points.

If you equip a Cannon upgrade, reduce its cost by 3 to a minimum of 0. When you perform an attack with your primary weapon, after dealing damage, you may apply any non-damage effects from your equipped Cannon upgrade.

This makes Cannon Defenders far more useful. You can go with a damage cannon for a points discount, or a utility cannon for free while putting the secondary effect on your primary guns, making for some interesting gameplay choices (especially at R3).

Either in addition, or as an alternative, throw in a Secret Order Pilot title:

Secret Order Pilot

TIE Defender Only

Title.

2 points.

After you perform a Primary weapon attack, you may perform a Secondary weapon attack against the same target. This cannot be equipped if your Pilot Skill is below 4.

It's only 2 points since the Defender is overcosted already, and makes the elite Defender pilots a lot more dangerous for the points investment.

TIE/x7 should not give you a cannon, it should remove your cannon and your missile slot.

Edit: Also, your Linked Ion Cannon upgrade makes the Ion Cannon entirely redundant. It should be TIE Defender Only and 0 points if it is otherwise left the same.

I'm not seeing anything related to the original post in this thread. This is not a general tie defender thread, it's a discussion of a specific "fix"

According to the lore, yes. But I'm using it more to replicate Star Wars: TIE Fighter's Defender than the actual prototype that was never actually produced. The extra cannon slot is to allow it to take both ion cannons and a tractor beam.

Correct. Unless you are hurting for points, you would never take a standard Ion Cannon over a Linked Ion Cannon.

Of course, in the competitive format, you often times ARE hurting for points.

It should be TIE Defender Only and 0 points if it is otherwise left the same.

Other than Titles, I despise ship-specific upgrades.

I wouldn't call it x7 tho.

It's broke in the sense it's hard to fit it in a min max tournament list only.

I don't see the lack of evade as a big issue I barely use it on any other tie because focus works on offense and defence.

If it gets something to make it more cost effective ill certainly use it but until then I'm perfectly happy using them as they are.

I quite like this idea - simple and elegant. I'd be quite happy if something like this were released; that said, it doesn't quite have the 'flair' that I personally would want in a Defender fix, and so I'd still like it to be paired with a second upgrade, similar to the Advanced.

Doesn't fix the fact that the TIE Defender, as it is in game, is a poor mockery of what it should be and that the pilot abilities just aren't very good. Also, why aren't there EPTs on the generics? The Defender also needs a boost action, which may make up for the ridiculous dial.

I actually really like this as a fix. I do think it's probably worth more than 0 point, though. We don't have much like this for small base ships right now.

Sorry, I typed "Limited", but it should be a Modification.

Here is how they combine:

1- TIE/D + TIE/x7 Prototype = agile and cheaper ship, using only the primary attack.

2- TIE/D + Linked Cannons = can make primary attack + 1 damage and effect.

3- TIE/D + Alpha Striker = can make a missile + cannon attack once.

4- TIE/D + Linked Cannons + Alpha Striker = 2 and 3; deadly, but expensive.

This is no boring fix.

Wouldn't it become OP? The Defender doesn't need a fix as brutal as the Advanced.

I made the TIE/x7 Prototype so you can use a cheaper ship. If you want the Ion Cannon, use the other cards (they have a fair price).

I dunno, I almost think all you need to do to "fix" the Defender is a (free?) title that causes its red turns to act as white turns.

The other problem is that it has no evade so when it comes to defense it has to rely on green dice which as we know are less than worthless.

Very neat idea. I like how it improves all the existing TIE Defenders. It's so simple, but so profound. Kudos to you, sir.
