I'm trying to use Star Wars Armada rules as a substitute for Dark Heresy (Battle Fleet Gothic) ship to ship combat any suggestions on ship type conversions and weapons? (Victory Class = BFG equivalent) (turbo lasers = Light Lances) (SW = Boarding Torpedoes)
Using SW Armada rules as sub for DH ship combat, Need Help
Not sure if your looking for suggestions on making up your own cards for BFG ships or looking to substitue BFG ships with exsisting cards.
If subbing I would go:
Strike Cruiser - Gladiator 1
Battle Barge - Victory 1
Gladiator Escort = X-Wing Squad
Nova Escort = Y-Wing Squad
Hunter Escort = A-Wing Squad
If looking to make your own cards and stats I would use:
Black Dice = Bombardment Cannon (str3=1die), Torpedos (str2=1die)
Red Dice = Weapons Batteries (str4=1die)
Blue Dice = Lances (str1-2=1die)
Round all values down when calcualting to the least amount of dice but no less than 1 die (eg. Weapons Battery str5 = 1die, Weapons Battery str2 = 1die). If things feel weak to what they should add a free reroll on certain craft using somthing like the Swarm rule.
Edited by F0RGEDThanks, that was helpful. I'm not sure if subing my own cards or using the standard ones and just changing the name.
Hmm, I guess it's opinion time. How far-ranging is the DH for ship types? I've seen the battlefleet Koronus book for Rogue Trader a few times and I remember the basic list of Imperial/'Chaos' classes, but I can't recall the opposition. Naturally, there's always a bit of a price to be paid as so far Armada has only 2 factions and a very limited number of ships while BFG/DH has a lot more. Keep in mind, you could probably substitute a few close classes for each other and slightly modify the escorts to fit.
Imperial:
A-wing=Cobra
X-wing=Sword
Y-wing=maaaybe a Falchion? It's not a great comparison.
Nebulon B Support Refit (+Engine Tech)=Dauntless
Assault Frigate Mk.IIA= Lunar class (You might be able to say that a Tyrant is that plus an enhanced armaments. Or you could use the upgrades to represent the battlecruisers such as the Overlord)
Assault Frigate Mk.IIB=Dictator (similar to the above, a Mars class might be represented with a bit of upgrading).
I honestly can't say what I think a CR90 would represent Imperial wise. Maybe some of the Rogue trader vessels that were stripped of components? Give them a smaller disadvantage for not being crewed or equipped as the high end House Guilds, though it will naturally depend on the Trader's charter and funds.
Wait for a bit and the MC80 would make a fine retribution while the MC 30's might look a little closer to those Tyrants and Dominator in particular.
If we're going for "Chaos" 9In italics as I know the ship classes are just older models and explicitly said to still be in Imperial service in some parts:
TIE Sa=Infidel
TIE In=Iconoclast
TIE X1= Idolator
Gladiator I (+Engine Tech)= Slaughter class
Gladiator II = Murder class
Victory I (Eenhanced Armaments+ACM perhaps)= Repulsive class Grand Cruiser ( Drop ACMs and add Expanded hangars for the Retaliator-class)
Victory II (+Enhanced Armaments)= Vengeance class Grand Grand Cruiser
You could also just replace the chaos escort classes with the rebel equivalent as they are basically the same in BFG at least, and the same goes with the Imperial Grand Cruisers. I remember in Battlefleet Koronus that the Chaos equivalent ships were generally more fragile than their Imperial counterparts (armoured prow for cruisers, and just construction type for attack craft) so I figured Gladiators vs. Assault Frigate for cruisers, and Tie vs. Rebel fighters for escorts.
I'd have to think some more about anything customized or the like, and look over the Koronus book, but it's sure interesting to me. I'm not sure how to properly portray torpedoes or attack craft given their long range nature. A lot of the existing system doesn't fit for the 40K authenticity and scale. And there is no nova cannon equivalent. Best of luck mate! I'm quite interested to see where this goes, and that's coming from someone who likes (but has very little play time) on DH/RT and a 3,000 point Imperial fleet ![]()

Not properly playtested yet, so of course YMMV, but at least you have a lot more options to choose from when trying to map ships between SW and DH.
