I won my first tournament, and I did it with X-wings!

By vyrago, in X-Wing

of course, because you're comparing in a vacuum and not on a squad level where those 10 points could be used to purchase something useful

exactly I mean the whole pt of squad points is balance, a 34pt ship before dice should away win vs. something less

Now a 29pt match up of Soontir w/ AT vs that 25pt Tarn + Shield would be interesting

yes that tends to happen when you let it get down to 35 points versus 25 :P There's nothing in the 25 point bracket that can solo soontir (or soontir'd be worthless), though are some things that can completely neuter him (r3-a2, god of stress, on his chosen vessel: the gold squadron BTL-A4 Y-wing)

Tarn isn't an ace (he's 25 points), he's like a super generic and has the PS to match. If you roll him expecting some kind of miracle and not just a very durable ship that people are loathe to shoot in the first place, well prepare to be disappointed.

Also, against the spirit of the thread, I am really not a fan of multiple X-wings. They have some strengths, and a lot of weaknesses and stacking them only emphasizes the latter. At 25 points, Tarn is a great addition to most lists; he doesn't need to be a part of an X-wing posse to be useful. He can beef out a control orientated squadron, run wingman with corran (fun times deciding who to shoot there), and in general just be a very useful 3 red-dice on something that won't get 2-shot (like most every other X-wing <_< )

Except... He's one of the first to move, has no way to reposition, and shoots after everyone else... But, yeah... Aside from those glaring holes, he is one of the best X-Wing pilots out there... Just let that sink in...

If you are a good plalyer, you don't always need to reposition yourself. Just get to the best spot in the first place.

I've been Using him with 4 z, and a Btl stress bot ywing, and its done much better than expected

Using a xwing in a list can do well, but I find too many and you'll succumb to those arc dodgers.

Which is why i have the ywing for added control, and the numerous z to block lanes and act as a meat shield

I wouldn't say Tarn is the best x wing but he is easily in the top 3. Especially in the 2 ship meta but he unfortunately does hate gunner which is prevalent. Tarn with r7 has durability like luke, it's not as reliable but you're getting what you pay for.

In my opinion the top 3 best/usable x wings are

1. Biggs

2. Luke

3. Tarn

I do find it hard to justify bringing more than 1 x wing but more power to ya op. At gencon my Biggs was able to secure a kill on corran horn and I will gladly trade 25 points to take out a 35-43 point late game monster all day!

I've used that squad with a few differences in upgrades, very fun to use and with tarn you always have a chance. It's a list that can beat most sides on its day! Love flying x wings.

I find this lack of X-wings in the X-Wing meta disturbing...

For me, the game has changed names to b-wing/a-wing and now k-wing miniatures :P

Wait for ep 7 stuff (sept 4th when mercy based that up can be legally announced) for X-wing miniatures :P

I think with all the ordnance biggs will be a huge player again.

More so against low ps ships. I've used him against 4 bombers in the past and he really messed up my opponent targeting.

His low ps moved, Target locked a ship within range of them as biggs was out of range, then biggs moved in and now he had no choice but to attack biggs. No target lock ment to missles away.

The higher ps ships will have an easier time with this of coarse, but again biggs is doing what he does best. Buying your bigger players more time.

The kwing for example may team up well with biggs. Having that kwing come late game with its slam may become frustratingly hard for your opponent to catch

Imo the xwing pilots which can still do well competitively are Luke, biggs, wedge and maybe Wes.

However in todays meta not all at once. Using one and build a squad around it can still tackle just about anything you throw at it, like anything else

My single tourney win thus far has been Tarnation: Tarn w/ 6 Zs. The next tourney I played him in I lost only to the winner of the event and placed third.

AWAWESOMENESS Brah!

Looking for where I said "always"... Just give me a minute, I know I'll find it...

............. .... ... .. . .

I can't seem to find where I said "a good player always needs to reposition"... I do see where I said Tarn Mison "has no way to reposition"... Let's converse without straw men, yeah???

I never stated that you did say "always". I'm just saying you don't always have to reposition.

So, despite quoting my text, your comment was completely irrelevant to my stating Tarn Mison has no way at all to reposition himself... Got it...

Tarn with an R7 is the best X Wing and IMO the only X Wing that's worth using in the current meta.

No...there is another....
